Introduction
The HS1250 is a compact high-performance horizontal scanner. Slide-through
scanning enhances productivity and throughput, while eliminating the need to
lift items being scanned.
This Quick Reference Guide describes:
• scanning with the HS1250
• the controls and indicators
• where to find additional information
In addition to this guide, a CD is packaged with the scanner that contains por-
table document format (PDF) copies of the User’s Guide and Programming
Guide. These manuals are also available for download from the PSC website
(www.pscnet.com). Print manuals may be ordered from your PSC representa-
tive (see back cover for contact information).
Operation
The scanner’s Read
Zone extends approxi-
mately 6" (15.24 cm)
above the window,
angled at approxi-
mately 40° from the
counter and expands as
you move away from
the scanner's window.
When the bar code is
swept through the
Read Zone, the scanner
immediately reads the
label, successfully completing the scanning operation.
To obtain optimum scanner performance, face the bar code toward the scanner
and sweep it over the scan window. Refer to the arrow on the scanner's top,
which indicates product flow direction.

Controls & Indicators
The scanner has a volume switch,
speaker and indicator light. Note that
two of these items, the speaker and vol-
ume switch, are located beneath the
scanner’s top cover.
Volume Switch
The scanner has three volume settings. When you
press the switch or scan this label, the scanner sounds
a tone three times at the new setting. Each time you
press the switch or scan the label, the scanner sounds
the next highest volume until it reaches the highest
volume. After reaching the highest volume, pressing
the switch again will return the volume to the lowest
level.
This volume setting will be lost when the scanner is turned off. Use the pro-
gramming bar codes found in the Programming Guide for this product to per-
manently change the volume. The Manuals CD contains a copy of this
programming Guide.

Indicator lamp
Speaker
The speaker produces an audible indication of scanner operation. It sounds a
normal tone, an alternate tone, or error tones (a repeating series of tones).
• Normal Tone - sounds when a bar code label is successfully decoded
and transmitted to the host.
• Alternate Tone - has a lower pitch than the normal tone. It sounds in
Normal Mode if the scanner cannot successfully read a bar code label
or reads a bar code but is not programmed to transmit that symbology
to the host. It sounds in Programming Mode when a programming
label is rejected because the scanner cannot use that feature (e.g. trying
to set Baud Rate for any interface other than RS-232).
• Error Tones - alert the operator when a problem is detected. See the
User’s Guide for details.

Lorsqu'un code-barre

Pour obtenir des performances optimales du scanner, orientez le code-barre en
direction du scanner et faites-le passer devant la fenêtre de lecture. La flèche
située sur le dessus du scanner indique la direction de passage des produits.

Boutons et voyants
Le scanner dispose d’un bouton de
réglage du volume, d'un haut-parleur et
d'un voyant indicateur. Deux de ces élé-
ments, le haut-parleur et le bouton de
réglage du volume sont situés sous le
capot supérieur du scanner.
Bouton de réglage du volume
Le scanner peut utiliser trois volumes sonores. Lor-
sque vous appuyez sur le bouton ou que vous scan-
nez l'étiquette correspondante le scanner émet trois
sons au nouveau volume. Chaque fois que vous
appuyez sur le bouton ou que vous scannez l'éti-
quette, le scanner émet un son au volume supérieur
jusqu'à atteindre le volume maximum. Une fois le
volume maximum atteint, il revient au volume le plus bas lorsque vous
appuyez de nouveau sur l'interrupteur.
Le volume sélectionné à l'aide de l'interrupteur ne sera pas conservé après la
mise hors tension du scanner. Utilisez les codes-barres de programmation du
guide de programmation pour changer le volume de façon permanente. Le CD
des manuels comprend un exemplaire de ce document.

Voyant
Haut-parleur
Le haut-parleur fournit une indication sonore du fonctionnement du scanner.
Il émet un son normal, discontinu ou une série répétitive de sons indiquant une
erreur.
• Son normal : émis lors du décodage correct d'un code-barre et de la
transmission à l'hôte.
• Son discontinu : le ton est inférieur au son normal. Ce son est émis en
mode Normal si le scanner ne parvient pas à lire correctement l'éti-
quette d'un code-barre ou s'il lit le code-barre mais n'est pas pro-
grammé pour transférer cette symbologie à l'hôte. Ce son retentit
également en mode Programmation si une étiquette de programmation
est rejetée car la fonction correspondante n'est pas prise en charge par
le scanner (par exemple, la définition d'un débit en bauds sur une inter-
face autre que RS-232).
• Bips d'erreur : avertissent l'opérateur lorsqu'un problème est détecté.

Bedienung
Die Lesefähigkeit des
Scanners reicht bis ca.
15cm über dem Scan-
fenster in einem Winkel
von ca. 40° vom Kas-
sentisch und vergrößert
sich entsprechend der
Entfernung vom Scan-
fenster.
Der Barcode wird
während der Vorbeibe-
wegung am Scanner-
fenster sofort gelesen,
womit das Scannen erfolgreich beendet ist. Um die optimale Leistungsfähigkeit
des Scanners zu gewährleisten, richten Sie die Ware mit dem Barcode zum
Scannerfenster hin aus und führen ihn in Pfeilrichtung (an der oberen Scanner-
begrenzung) über das Scanfenster.

Bedienelemente und Anzeigen
Der Scanner verfügt über einen
Lautstärkeschalter, Lautsprecher und
ein optisches Signal. Bitte beachten Sie,
daß sich sowohl Lautsprecher als auch
Lautstärkeschalter an der Unterseite der
Scannerabdeckung befinden.
Lautstärkeschalter
Der Scanner besitzt drei Lautstärkeeinstellungen.
Wenn Sie den Schalter betätigen oder dieses Label
scannen, ertönt ein Bestätigungssignal für die neue
Einstellung. Das Signal der nächsten Einstellung
ertönt lauter, die dritte Einstellung hat die größte
Lautstärke. Wenn Sie bei der letzten Einstellung
angelangt sind, kommen Sie durch erneutes Betäti-
gen des Schalters bzw. durch Scannen dieses Labels wieder zur ersten Einstel-
lung. Die Einstellung geht nach dem Ausschalten verloren. Mit den
Programmierbarcodes, die Sie im Programmierhandbuch finden, können Sie
die Lautstärkeeinstellung dauerhaft ändern. Die beiliegende Handbuch-CD
enthält eine Kopie des Programmierhandbuchs.

Optische Anzeige
Lautsprecher
Die Signale sind gut hörbar und zeigen den Scannerbetrieb an. Es gibt ein Nor-
malsignal, ein Warnsignal und ein Fehlersignal (eine sich wiederholende Serie
von Signalen).
• Das Normalsignal zeigt die erfolgreiche Dekodierung und Übertra-
gung eines Barcodes an.
• Das Warnsignal zeigt im Betriebsmodus an, daß der Barcode nicht
erfolgreich gelesen werden kann oder daß der Barcode zwar gelesen
wird, aber die Programmierung die Übertragung der Daten zum Host-
Terminal nicht erlaubt. Im Programmiermodus zeigt es an, daß das
Programmierlabel nicht angenommen wurde, weil der Scanner diese
Einstellung nicht unterstützt (es wird z. B. versucht, eine Baud Rate für
eine Nicht-RS-232-Schnittstelle einzustellen).
• Das Error-Signal meldet Fehler. Einzelheiten hierzu finden Sie im Bedi-
enhandbuch.
Ausgeschaltet Kein Strom oder der Scanner ist nicht
betriebsbereit
schwach leuchtend Der Scanner ist angeschaltet und betriebsbereit
kurzes, helles Aufleuchten
Tritt beim Lesen eines Barcodes auf. Dieses Auf-
blinken wird von einem akustischen Signal von den
Lautsprechern (sofern eingeschaltet) begleitet, die
das erfolgreiche Scannen anzeigen.
Aufblinken 1x/Sec Der Scanner hat sich automatisch in den "Sleep
Mode" geschaltet

Der Scanner ist im Programmiermodus. Dabei wer-
den keine Labels gelesen oder Daten zum Host-Ter-
minal geschickt.
Wiederholtes Blinken Zusammen mit akustischen Signalen wird hiermit ein
Fehler angezeigt

Introduzione
Il modello HS1250 è uno scanner orizzontale compatto ad alte prestazioni. La
scansione ad attraversamento aumenta la produttività ed elimina la necessità di
sollevare gli oggetti da scansionare.

Oltre a questa guida rapida, in dotazione allo scanner viene fornito un CD che

Funzionamento
La zona di lettura dello scanner si estende per circa 15 cm sopra la finestra di
scansione, con un'angolazione di circa 40° rispetto al banco, e si espande in
direzione opposta alla finestra di scansione.

Per ottenere le migliori
prestazioni, rivolgere il
codice a barre verso lo
scanner e farlo passare
sopra la finestra di scansione. Fare riferimento alla freccia sulla parte superiore
dello scanner che indica la direzione di flusso del prodotto.

Controlli e indicatori
Lo scanner è dotato di un selettore di
volume, un altoparlante ed una spia
luminosa. Nota: l'altoparlante ed il selet-
tore di volume sono situati al di sotto
della copertura superiore dello scanner.
Selettore di volume
Lo scanner prevede tre livelli di volume. Quando si
preme il selettore o si effettua la scansione di questa
etichetta, lo scanner emette tre segnali acustici con il
nuovo livello di volume. Ogni volta che si preme il
selettore o si effettua la scansione dell'etichetta, lo
scanner emette tre segnali acustici con il livello di vol-
ume successivo, fino a raggiungere il livello massimo.
A questo punto, una nuova pressione del selettore reimposta il ciclo dal livello
di volume minimo.
La regolazione del volume così effettuata viene perduta quando lo scanner
viene spento. Per impostare il volume in modo permanente usare i codici a
barre di programmazione riportati nella Guida di programmazione di questo
prodotto. Il CD dei Manuali contiene una copia di tale guida.

Indicatore luminos
Altoparlante
L’altoparlante emette segnali acustici corrispondenti allo stato operativo dello
scanner. Può emettere un tono normale, un tono alternato oppure una sequenza
di toni di errore (serie ripetuta di segnali acustici).
• Tono normale - emesso quando il codice a barre viene decodificato ed
inviato correttamente al computer host.
• Tono alternato - suono con frequenza leggermente inferiore al tono nor-
male. Emesso in modalità normale, indica che lo scanner non ha effet-
tuato correttamente la lettura di un codice a barre oppure ne ha
effettuato la lettura ma non è programmato per trasmettere la simbolo-
gia corrispondente al computer host. Emesso in modalità di program-
mazione, indica che un'etichetta di programmazione è stata rifiutata
poiché lo scanner non è predisposto per la funzione corrispondente (ad
es. una velocità di trasmissione per un'interfaccia diversa dalla RS-232).
• Toni di errore - segnalano all'operatore il rilevamento di una condiz-
ione anomala. Per ulteriori informazioni consultare la Guida
dell'utente.
