Introduction
The HS1250 is a compact high-performance horizontal scanner. Slide-through
scanning enhances productivity and throughput, while eliminating the need to
lift items being scanned.
This Quick Reference Guide describes:
• scanning with the HS1250
• the controls and indicators
• where to find additional information
In addition to this guide, a CD is packaged with the scanner that contains por-
table document format (PDF) copies of the User’s Guide and Programming
Guide. These manuals are also available for download from the PSC website
(www.pscnet.com). Print manuals may be ordered from your PSC representa-
tive (see back cover for contact information).
Operation
The scanner’s Read
Zone extends approxi-
mately 6" (15.24 cm)
above the window,
angled at approxi-
mately 40° from the
counter and expands as
you move away from
the scanner's window.
When the bar code is
swept through the
Read Zone, the scanner
immediately reads the
label, successfully completing the scanning operation.
To obtain optimum scanner performance, face the bar code toward the scanner
and sweep it over the scan window. Refer to the arrow on the scanner's top,
which indicates product flow direction.

Controls & Indicators
The scanner has a volume switch,
speaker and indicator light. Note that
two of these items, the speaker and vol-
ume switch, are located beneath the
scanner’s top cover.
Volume Switch
The scanner has three volume settings. When you
press the switch or scan this label, the scanner sounds
a tone three times at the new setting. Each time you
press the switch or scan the label, the scanner sounds
the next highest volume until it reaches the highest
volume. After reaching the highest volume, pressing
the switch again will return the volume to the lowest
level.
This volume setting will be lost when the scanner is turned off. Use the pro-
gramming bar codes found in the Programming Guide for this product to per-
manently change the volume. The Manuals CD contains a copy of this
programming Guide.

Indicator lamp
Speaker
The speaker produces an audible indication of scanner operation. It sounds a
normal tone, an alternate tone, or error tones (a repeating series of tones).
• Normal Tone - sounds when a bar code label is successfully decoded
and transmitted to the host.
• Alternate Tone - has a lower pitch than the normal tone. It sounds in
Normal Mode if the scanner cannot successfully read a bar code label
or reads a bar code but is not programmed to transmit that symbology
to the host. It sounds in Programming Mode when a programming
label is rejected because the scanner cannot use that feature (e.g. trying
to set Baud Rate for any interface other than RS-232).
• Error Tones - alert the operator when a problem is detected. See the
User’s Guide for details.

On dim Scanner is on and ready for operation.
Flashes once Occurs when a bar code is read. Accompanied by good read tone from
the speaker (if on)

Lorsqu'un code-barre
est passé dans la zone
de lecture, le scanner lit
immédiatement l'éti-
quette et clôt l'opération de lecture.
Pour obtenir des performances optimales du scanner, orientez le code-barre en
direction du scanner et faites-le passer devant la fenêtre de lecture. La flèche
située sur le dessus du scanner indique la direction de passage des produits.

Boutons et voyants
Le scanner dispose d’un bouton de
réglage du volume, d'un haut-parleur et
d'un voyant indicateur. Deux de ces élé-
ments, le haut-parleur et le bouton de
réglage du volume sont situés sous le
capot supérieur du scanner.
Bouton de réglage du volume
Le scanner peut utiliser trois volumes sonores. Lor-
sque vous appuyez sur le bouton ou que vous scan-
nez l'étiquette correspondante le scanner émet trois
sons au nouveau volume. Chaque fois que vous
appuyez sur le bouton ou que vous scannez l'éti-
quette, le scanner émet un son au volume supérieur
jusqu'à atteindre le volume maximum. Une fois le
volume maximum atteint, il revient au volume le plus bas lorsque vous
appuyez de nouveau sur l'interrupteur.
Le volume sélectionné à l'aide de l'interrupteur ne sera pas conservé après la
mise hors tension du scanner. Utilisez les codes-barres de programmation du
guide de programmation pour changer le volume de façon permanente. Le CD
des manuels comprend un exemplaire de ce document.
