Ventilation
It’simportantwheninstallingaPulse-Eightvideooraudiomatrixtokeeptheproductsventilated.
Videoandaudiomatriceswillgenerateheat.Awell-ventilatedareahelpstodispersetheheat.Ifplacedinapoorlyvent-
ilatedarea,yourequipmentmayheatupandcauseminorirreparabledamagetothecircuitries.Allowingsystemsto
runforprolongedperiodsunderhightemperatureswillbreakdowncircuitryandchipset.Thisalsoappliesifthedevice
isleftinthepathofdirectsunlightornearanyheatsource.
Dusttendstoaccumulate,andthiswilldisruptthefanandelectronicssystem.Dustparticlescontainvariouscom-
positionssuchaswater,oilandothermineralsorchemicals.Havingtheminyourelectronicdevicecansometimes
causeasignalerrorordegradationtovariouschipsandcircuitries.Becausewecannotaccuratelypredicthoworwhen
theycanaffectyourdevice,wehighlyrecommendthatyoukeepPulse-Eightproductsnotonlyinawell-ventilatedarea
butalsoascleanaspossible.
Inveryrarecases,certaininsectsorreptilescanmakenestsnearorinsidetheelectroniccasing.Whilstwedesignour
productstomaximisetheprotectionoftheinternalcircuitrypleasebeawarethatinsectsandreptilesaredrawntothese
typesofhabitats..Intheunlikelyeventthisdoeshappen,thiswillleadtopoorventilationinsidetheunit,anditwillbe
unabletodisperseheat.
Finally,wheneverpossible,donotstackaudioandvideomatricestogether.Leaveenoughspaceinbetweeneachunit
inordertoprovidegoodairflow.

WHATISTHEBESTTYPEOFCABLETOUSE?
Pulse-EightproductsuseHDBaseTstandardthatutilisesregularCatcables.Typically,theminimumcableuseona
neosystemisCat5ebutyoucouldincreasetherangeandbandwidthbyusinghighertiercablessuchasCat6,Cat6A&
Cat7whichhavestrictershieldingrequirementandthereforereducesthedatalossbetweendatapairs.
Wehighlydiscouragepatchcablingasthismightdegradethesignal.Wheneverpossible,usealong,singlehigh-qual-
itycableforeachHDBaseTportasthisallowsthesystemtofunctionatitsbestpeakefficiency.
Wedonotrecommendtheuseofpre-madeleadsunlessyouarecertainofthecorrectspecs(i.e.,solidcore568B),the
useoflowerqualitycableswillleadtosignaldegradationandqualityofthetransmission.
PleasenoteCopperCladAluminium(CCA)cablesarenotsupported.DuetotheinherentpropertiesofaCCA,thiswill
causeanHDBaseTperformanceissue.
SHIELDEDCABLES
IfyouprefershieldedFTPcables,pleaseensurecompatibleshieldedfeaturesareusedsuchasgrounding&ter-
mination.Abadlyterminatedcablecancauseinterferenceinsteadofeliminatingit.
CABLINGBESTPRACTICE
OurrecommendedandbestpracticepolicyistouseastraightcabledirectlyfromthePulse-Eightmatrixtothereceiver.
Thiswillensurethebestqualityofsignalandachievemaximumdistance.Youcanfindfurtherinformationon
"HDBaseTBestPractices"ontheHDBaseTAlliancewebsite.
WALLPLATES&PATCHPANELS
Ifthepatchpanelsareterminatedcorrectly,thereisminimallossofdistance.Theuseofwallplatesandpatchpanels,
however,hasthepotentialtocauseincreasedresistanceonthecableifnotdonecorrectly,introducingpinchpointsfor
signaltransmission,andcouldreduceadvertisedtransmissionlengths.InsteadofusingRJ45wallplates,youcanuse
brushplatestomaintaintheneatfinish.

CONNECTIONTERMINATION
Wheneverpossible,usefullplasticencasement.WedonotrecommendmetalonestoavoidgroundingleakstoPulse-
Eightproducts.TerminatethecablingusingRJ45connectorstothe568Bwiringstandard.(Seediagram)
IMPORTANT:Pleasenotethatlocalbuildingregulationsmayapplytotheinstallationofcablinginprop-
erties.Itisimportanttocheckbuildingregulationstoguaranteethatyouareinaccordancewiththe
lawsofyourterritory.
IRPINASSIGNMENTS
WehighlyrecommendyoupurchaseaPulse-EightMono-StereoOptocableifyouwishtoconvertthisintoa3.5mmste-
reojack.However,ifyouchoosetorewiretheIRbudthiswillvoidyourwarrantyontheIRaccessory.

Setup
INSTALLINGINARACK
1.Attachtherackearstothefrontsidesofthematrixusingtheprovidedscrews.
2.Installintorackandconnectcablingaccordingtomodeofoperation–asdescribedbelow.
WARNING:Topreventdamage,itisimportanttoensureadequateventilationspaceonthesidesofthematrix,espe-
ciallyontheventilationopeningsonthesideoftheproductenclosure.
CONNECTINGTHEVIDEOINPUTS
3.ConnectHDMIcablesfromyourvideosources(e.g.Blu-Rayplayer)totheHDMIinputsofthematrix.
Note: It is recommended, for ease of setup, to connect devices from Input 1 to Input 4, although this is not necessary.
4.ConnectthesuppliedIREmitter(Identifiablebymattsurface)overthesourcedevice'sIRwindowandattachtothe
'IROut'port.
Note: Ensure that the IR Emitter is connected to the same zone as the source device's HDMI input (i.e HDMI input 3
and IR 3).

5.ConnecttheappropriateCat5eorhighergradecabletoeachHDBaseToutputportyourequire.
Note: It is recommended, for ease of setup, to connect devices from Output 1 to Output 4, although this is not neces-
sary.

6.CompletetheconnectionbyattachingtheotherendoftheCatcabletoasuppliedneoReceiver's'HDBaseTIn'port.
Thereceivershouldbesituatedattheoutputend(i.e.TV).
7.AttachedasuppliedIRreceiver(shinysurface)intotheReceiver'sIRRXportandattachthebudtotheundersideof
thesinkdevicewiththesmallestendforward,asperthediagram.

8.FinishtheconnectionusingatheappropriatehighspeedHDMIcablefromtheoutputdeviceandconnecttothe
Receiver's'HDMIOut'port.

9.ForHDMIOutputports1and2,connectsinkdevicesdirectlyviahighspeedHDMIcables.Theoutputoftheseports
mirrortheoutputoftheadjacentHDBaseTports.
Note: Can also be used in conjunction with a HDMI Extender Set (sold separately) for reaching further distances.

10.IfyouwishtousethemirrorHDMIoutputs,theseIRportscanbeusedforsendingreturnIRbacktothematrixusing
anP8-IR-Optocable.

CONNECTINGTONETWORK
11.ConnectastandardEthernetcable(Category5e/6/7)fromthematrix's'Ethernet'porttoyourrouterornetwork
switch.Crossovercablesarenotsupported.
Note: Network connection is required for supporting full control/remote monitoring features and firmware updates.
TURNINGONTHEMATRIX
12.Insertthesuppliedpowercordintothematrix.
13.PlugintotheACmains.
14.AsitpowersON,thefrontpanelLEDs(SystemHealth,Network,Cloud)willilluminatemomentarilybeforeitbegins
itsinitializationsequence.
Note: The initialization process takes between 20 seconds and up to 2 minutes. However, it is possible that a firmware
update may be available the first time the unit is powered ON - in this instance the matrix may take longer to initialize. If
both the System Health and Network LEDs flash (orange/green) quickly together then a firmware update is being
applied. Please wait and do not disconnect the power until this update has completed.
15.Onceinitializationhasbeencompleted,theSystemHealth,NetworkandCloudLEDsshouldallappearON(green).
16.Youarenowreadytosetupthematrixusingthewebinterface.Pleasefollowthestepsinthe'ConnectingtoAdmin
WebInterface'section.

17.Usingacomputerconnectedtosamerouter/network,accessandlogintotheWebInterfacebyvisitingwww.go-
tomymatrix.cominyourwebbrowser.
18.ActivateadministrativerightsbyclickingontheCloudConnectiontabonthelefthandnav,thenclickonthe'
[Admin]'linkatthefootofthepage.

19.WhilstontheCloudConnectionpage,insertyourInstallerIDintotheboxandsavechanges-thiswillenablethe
matrixtobelinkedtoyourmonitoringaccount.IfyouhavenotsetupaninstallerIDpleasecontactyourPulse-Eightrep-
resentative.
20.Withinthisinterfacearemanysetupoptions-pleaserefertothefullinstallationguideforfurtherdetails.

21.ChecktheLEDsontheHDBaseTportsoftheReceiverandTransmittertoensurecorrectinstallationandcon-
