Ventilation
It’simportantwheninstallingaPulse-Eightproduct:keeptheproductsventilated.
Anyelectronicequipmentwillgenerateheat.Awell-ventilatedareahelpstodispersetheheat.Ifplaced
inapoorlyventilatedarea,yourequipmentmayheatupandcauseminorirreparabledamagetothe
circuitries.Allowingsystemstorunforprolongedperiodsunderhightemperatureswillbreakdown
circuitryandchipset.Italsoappliesifthedeviceisleftinthepathofdirectsunlightornearanyheat
source.
Dusttendstoaccumulateandwilldisruptthefanandelectronicssystem.Dustparticlescontainvarious
compositionslikewater,oilandothermineralsorchemicals.Havingtheminyourelectronicdevicecan
sometimescauseasignalerrorordegradationtotheinternalchipsandcircuitries.Becausewecannot
accuratelypredicthoworwhentheycanaffectyourdevice,wehighlyrecommendthatyoukeepPulse-
Eightproductsnotonlyinawell-ventilatedareabutalsoascleanaspossible.
Insomecases,insectsorreptilescanmakenestsnearorinsidetheelectroniccasing.Whilstwedesign
ourproductstomaximisetheprotectionofinternalelectronics,pleasebeawarethatinsectsandreptiles
aredrawntothesetypesofhabitats.Intheunlikelyevent,thisdoeshappen,thiswillleadtopoor
ventilationinsidetheunit,anditwillbeunabletodisperseheat.
Finally,wheneverpossible,donotstackaudioandvideomatrixestogether.Leaveenoughspacein
betweeneachunitinordertoprovidegoodairflow.

Cabling
WHATISTHEBESTTYPEOFCABLETOUSE?
Pulse-EightproductsuseHDBaseTstandardthatutilisesregularCatcables.Typically,theminimum
cableuseonaneosystemisCat5ebutyoucouldincreasetherangeandbandwidthbyusinghighertier
cablessuchasCat6,Cat6A&Cat7whichhavestrictershieldingrequirementandthereforereducesthe
datalossbetweendatapairs.
Wehighlydiscouragepatchcablingasthismightdegradethesignal.Wheneverpossible,usealong,
singlehigh-qualitycableforeachHDBaseTportasthisallowsthesystemtofunctionatitsbestpeak
efficiency.
Wedonotrecommendtheuseofpre-madeleadsunlessyouarecertainofthecorrectspecs(i.e.,solid
core568B),theuseoflowerqualitycableswillleadtosignaldegradationandqualityofthe
transmission.
PleasenoteCopperCladAluminium(CCA)cablesarenotsupported.Duetotheinherentpropertiesofa
CCA,thiswillcauseanHDBaseTperformanceissue.
SHIELDEDCABLES
IfyouprefershieldedFTPcables,pleaseensurecompatibleshieldedfeaturesareusedsuchas
grounding&termination.Abadlyterminatedcablecancauseinterferenceinsteadofeliminatingit.
CABLINGBESTPRACTICE
OurrecommendedandbestpracticepolicyistouseastraightcabledirectlyfromthePulse-Eightmatrix
tothereceiver.Thiswillensurethebestqualityofsignalandachievemaximumdistance.Youcanfind
furtherinformationon"HDBaseTBestPractices"ontheHDBaseTAlliancewebsite.
WALLPLATES&PATCHPANELS
Ifthepatchpanelsareterminatedcorrectly,thereisminimallossofdistance.Theuseofwallplatesand
patchpanels,however,hasthepotentialtocauseincreasedresistanceonthecableifnotdone
correctly,introducingpinchpointsforsignaltransmission,andcouldreduceadvertisedtransmission
lengths.InsteadofusingRJ45wallplates,youcanusebrushplatestomaintaintheneatfinish.

CONNECTIONTERMINATION
Wheneverpossible,usefullplasticencasement.Wedonotrecommendmetalonestoavoidgrounding
leakstoPulse-Eightproducts.TerminatethecablingusingRJ45connectorstothe568Bwiring
standard.(Seediagram)
IMPORTANT:Pleasenotethatlocalbuildingregulationsmayapplytotheinstallationof
cablinginproperties.Itisimportanttocheckbuildingregulationstoguaranteethatyou
areinaccordancewiththelawsofyourterritory.
IRPINASSIGNMENTS
WehighlyrecommendyoupurchaseaPulse-EightMono-StereoOptocableifyouwishtoconvertthis
intoa3.5mmstereojack.However,ifyouchoosetorewiretheIRbudthiswillvoidyourwarrantyonthe
IRaccessory.

Setup
INSTALLINGINARACK
1.Attachtherackearstothefrontsidesofthematrixusingtheprovidedscrews.
2.Installintorackandconnectcablingaccordingtomodeofoperation–asdescribedbelow.
WARNING:Topreventdamage,itisimportanttoensureadequateventilationspaceonthesidesofthe
matrix,especiallyontheventilationopeningsonthesideoftheproductenclosure.
CONNECTINGTHEVIDEOINPUTS
3.ConnectHDMIcablesfromyourvideosources(e.g.Blu-Rayplayer)totheHDMIinputsofthematrix.
Note: It is recommended, for ease of setup, to connect devices from Input 1 to Input 8, although this is
not necessary.
4.ConnectthesuppliedIREmitter(Identifiablebymattsurface)overthesourcedevice'sIRwindowand
attachtothe'IROut'port.
Note: Ensure that the IR Emitter is connected to the same zone as the source device's HDMI input (i.e.
HDMI input 3 and IR 3)

5.ConnecttheappropriateCat5eorhighergradecabletoeachHDBaseToutputportyourequire.
Note: It is recommended, for ease of setup, to connect devices from Output 1 to Output 8 first.
6.CompletetheconnectionbyattachingtheotherendoftheCatcabletoasuppliedneoReceiver's
'HDBaseTIn'port.Thereceivershouldbesituatedattheoutputend(i.e.TV).
7.AttachedasuppliedIRreceiver(shinysurface)intotheReceiver'sIRRXportandattachthebudto
theundersideofthesinkdevicewiththesmallestendforward,asperthediagram.
8.FinishtheconnectionusingtheappropriatehighspeedHDMIcablefromtheoutputdeviceand
connecttotheReceiver's'HDMIOut'port.

9.ForOutputports9and10,connectsinkdevicesdirectlyviahighspeedHDMIcables.
Note: Can also be used in conjunction with a neo HDMI Extender Set (sold separately) for reaching
further distances.

12.ConnectastandardEthernetcable(Category5e/6/7)fromthematrix's'Ethernet'porttoyourrouter
ornetworkswitch.Crossovercablesarenotsupported.
Note: Network connection is required for supporting full control/remote monitoring features of the
product.

TURNINGONTHEMATRIX
13.InsertthesuppliedpowercordandplugintotheACmains.
14.TurnONthepowerswitch.
15.AsitpowersON,thefrontpanelLEDs(SystemHealth,Network,Cloud)willilluminatemomentarily
beforeitbeginsitsinitializationsequence.
Note: The initialization process takes between 20 seconds and up to 2 minutes. However, it is possible
that a firmware update may be available the first time the unit is powered ON - in this instance the matrix
may take longer to initialize. If both the System Health and Network LEDs flash (orange/green) quickly
together then a firmware update is being applied. Please wait and do not disconnect the power until this
update has completed.
16.Onceinitializationhasbeencompleted,theSystemHealth,NetworkandCloudLEDsshouldall
appearON(green).
17.Youarenowreadytosetupthematrixusingthewebinterface.Pleasefollowthestepsinthe
'ConnectingtoAdminWebInterface'section.

18.Usingacomputerconnectedtosamerouter/network,accessandlogintotheWebInterfaceby
visitingwww.gotomymatrix.cominyourwebbrowser.
19.ActivateadministrativerightsbyclickingontheCloudConnectiontabonthelefthandnav,then
clickonthe'[Admin]'linkatthefootofthepage.
20.WhilstontheCloudConnectionpage,insertyourInstallerIDintotheboxandsavechanges-this
willenablethematrixtobelinkedtoyourmonitoringaccount.IfyouhavenotsetupaninstallerID
pleasecontactyourPulse-Eightrepresentative.

LEDSTATUS
