About This Guide
This guide provides information on the QNAP KoiBot and step-by-step instructions on installing the hardware
and configuring the system settings. It also provides instructions on basic operations and major tasks.
Audience
This document is intended for KoiBot administrators and device users. This guide assumes that the user has
a basic understanding of consumer electronics.

2. Overview
About KoiBot
KoiBot is a smart assistant robot that enables you to perform tasks and access services using the
touchscreen or voice commands.
You can make video calls, take photos, record videos, set alarms, and host video conferences. You can also
view and share media files in the KoiBot album.
About KoiCode
KoiCode is a unique 8-digit number that identifies a KoiBot device or user and enables you to retrieve data
associated with the device or user.
You can find the KoiBot's KoiCode and QR code in Settings > About > KoiCode .
Hardware Specifications
Important
Modifying the hardware or software of your QNAP product invalidates the warranty. QNAP
is not responsible for any damage or data loss caused by unauthorized modifications and
installation of unsupported third-party applications.

3. Installation and Configuration
System Requirements
The following are the system requirements for installing and using KoiTalk on a mobile device.
Operating System Version
Android
Important
KoiTalk does not support Android
devices powered by Intel processors.
5.0 or later
iOS 10 or later
Installing KoiTalk
1. Go to Google Play or the App Store on your mobile device.
2. Search for KoiTalk.
3. Install KoiTalk.
Platform Action
Google Play Tap Install.
App Store a. Tap Get.
b. Tap Install.
KoiTalk is installed on your mobile device and ready for use. You can sign in with or sign up for a QNAP ID.
Setting Up KoiBot
1. Connect the power adapter to KoiBot.
2. Connect the power adapter to an electrical outlet.

3. Press and hold the power button until the KoiBot logo appears.
4. Tap Start.
5. Select a language.
6. Select a network.
Note
Wired connections require a USB-Ethernet adapter. The adapter is not included.
7. Configure the network settings.

Wi-Fi a. Select a Wi-Fi network.
b. Type the password.
c. Tap Connect.
d. Tap Next.
LAN Proceed to the next step.
Note
KoiBot automatically connects to a network and
configures the required settings when an Ethernet
cable is connected.

8. Install KoiTalk on your mobile device. For details, see Installing KoiTalk.
9. Open KoiTalk on your mobile device.

11. Scan the QR code or enter the KoiCodeKoiCode.
12. Tap Add.
KoiTalk displays a confirmation message.
13. Confirm the settings and then tap Add.
14. Tap Confirm on KoiTalk.
15. Tap Set on KoiBot.
16. Tap Close.
KoiBot is successfully set up and ready to use. You are now the KoiBot administrator.

4. Basic Operations
KoiBot Desktop

1 Voice Assistant Enables you to navigate and operate KoiBot using voice
commands.
2 Time Displays the time of the selected time zone.
3 Network connection Indicates the current connection method.

Note
A USB-Ethernet adapter is required for wired
connections. The adapter is not included.

The screen saver appears when KoiBot is not in use. To close the screen saver, tap the
KoiBot screen.
System Operations
Powering Off or Restarting KoiBot
1. Press and hold the power button until KoiBot displays a menu.
2. Perform any of the following actions.

Power off Tap Power off.
Restart Tap Reboot.
Sleep Tap Screen Off.
Updating KoiBot
Important
Do not power off or restart KoiBot before an update is complete.
1. Power on KoiBot.
2. Go to Settings > About > System Update .
3. Optional: Enable Auto-check for Updates.
4. Update the system using one of the following methods.
Method Steps
One touch update Tap One Touch Updates
KoiBot checks for and installs the latest available updates.
Manual update a. Connect an external drive to KoiBot via USB.
Note
Verify that the drive is formatted for FAT32.
b. Tap Manual Updates.
c. Tap Update File.
d. Select the connected drive.
e. Select an update package.
Note
The update package should stay in the ZIP format.
Do not extract the update package.
f. Tap Update.

Resetting KoiBot
Warning
Resetting KoiBot deletes the data stored on the device and restores KoiBot to the default
factory settings.
1. Power on KoiBot.
2. Go to Settings > About > Reset .
3. Tap Reset.

5. Voice Assistant
Using the Voice Assistant
1. Power on KoiBot.
2. Open the Voice Assistant using one of the following methods:
• Say Hello Koi.
• Press the power button.

The Voice Assistant screen appears.

6. Applications
Video Call
On the Video Call screen, you can call other mobile devices or KoiBots, view call history, and configure
video call settings.
Camera
On the Camera screen, you can take photos or record videos. All the files are stored on the cloud.
Taking a Photo
1. Power on KoiBot.
2. Tap Camera.
KoiBot opens the camera app.
3. Select one of the following options.

Tap the icon again to end the recording session.
Album
On the Album screen, you can access and manage the photos and videos in the KoiBot album. All the files
are stored on the cloud.
Accessing and Managing Media Files on KoiBot
1. Power on KoiBot.
2. Tap Album.
KoiBot displays a list of media files sorted by date.
3. Perform any of the following actions.

Photo • View a photo.
Tip
You can spread or pinch to zoom.
• Delete a photo.
Video • Play a video.
• Delete a video.
Tip
Swipe right or left to browse photos and videos.
Configuring Album Settings
1. Tap Album.
2. Tap .
3. Select the album to be displayed.
4. Select the album save location.
Settings
On the Settings screen, you can configure or modify KoiBot settings.

Volume Adjust the volume of the speaker.
Brightness Adjust the brightness of the screen.
Language Select the language for the user interface, voice responses, and voice
commands.
