Getting Started
Charging Your Phone
Before you are able to use your phone, ensure that the
phone’s batteries are charged. Be sure to do this before
leaving for your destination. Should the batteries require
charging, connect your charging cable to your phone, and
insert the plug into a suitable power source.
Emergency Services
Be sure to check with your travel agent or local
representative for the emergency information in the
country you are traveling to.
Maximizing Performance
Having a completely open view of the sky plays a very
important role in ensuring call quality when using a
Globalstar Satellite phone. Nearby obstructions such as tall
buildings, trees or mountains, can prevent calls, as they
block the signal between the phone’s antenna and the
satellites that facilitate service.
Use the diagram below as a guideline to follow, ensuring
that surrounding obstructions are low to the ground, or in
the far distance. Natural environments such as clouds, fog,
rain, snow, wind and smoke will not negatively impact
reception and call quality

Note: When using a satellite phone on a ship, the ship’s
own communications equipment may cause poor call
quality or low signal strength. To place and receive calls, be
sure to use your phone on the ship’s top level. Stand
at least 50 feet away from all the ship’s antennas.

Troubleshooting
Q: How do I test my Globalstar phone?
A: To test your Globalstar phone and to ensure that it is
working properly, call the following number from the
handset: #8378 (#TEST). This is a free call.
Q: How do I charge the battery?
A: Install only Qualcomm batteries; check that the
battery contacts are clean and dry; check the charger
connection; check the battery temperature. If it is too
warm allow it to cool before recharging it. Replace the
battery if it is several years old.
Q: What happens if my battery is draining quickly?
A: Check that your Globalstar satellite antenna is pointing
straight up and has clear view of the sky to conserve
battery life. Set the backlight option to “OFF”. Replace
the battery if it is several years old. Check the battery
temperature. If temperatures are too warm or too cold,
battery life is decreased.
Q: I’m having a problem making/receiving calls.
A: Rotate or fully extend the appropriate antenna. In
Globalstar satellite mode, be sure the satellite antenna
has a clear view of the sky. Check that you selected the
correct service mode:
• Press and hold <*> to display the mode menu, and
press ‘2’ for Globalstar.
• Remove all service providers from the Prohibited
List.
• If “Service Not Found” displays, check the auto
preference and mode selection settings.

Q: I am unable to call certain numbers.
A: If you are unable to call a certain number, please
confirm that you are dialing the number correctly, using
the international dialing pattern. You can test the phone
itself by calling +1 905 272 5665. If you can get
through to this number then your problem is with the
phone number itself or the way you are dialing it.
Q: I am losing calls.
A: Make sure that your satellite antenna is pointing straight
up when placed next to your head and when using the
keypad or viewing the screen. Make sure that the
satellite antenna has a clear view of the sky. Rotate or

strength indicator.
