/)\. DonotstandatthesideortopoftheAntenna(ADU)
This device emits radio frequency energy when in the transmit
mode. To avoid injury, do not place head or other body parts
atthe side ortop of the ADU when system is operational.
Maintain a distance of one meter away from those areas of
the ADU.
Properly ground the Below Deck Unit (BDU)
Failure to properlyground the terminal BDU mayresultin
severe personalinjuryor death.Use the GROUND terminal on
the BDU and follow the instructions found inthe Installation
manual.

Handle your Thuraya IP Voyager with care.The ADU is weather
resistant per IEC 60529 IP56; however, do not submerge the
unit.AvoidexposingtheThuraya IPVoyagertoextremehotor
coldtemperaturesoutsidetherange-25°Cto+55°C.
Avoid placing the terminal BDU close to cigarettes, open
flames or anysource of heat.
Changes ormodifications to the terminal BDU not expressly
approved byHughes NetworkSystems couldvoid your
authority to operate this equipment.
Only use a soft damp cloth to clean the terminal BDU.
To avoid impaired performance,please ensure the unit's ADU
is not damaged or covered with foreign material like paint or
labelling.
When insertingtheSIM,do not bend it or damagethe
contacts inany way.When connectingthe interface cables,
donotuseexcessiveforce.
£ In thevicinity of blastingworkandinexplosive environments
Never usethe Thuraya IPVoyager where blastingwork is in
progress.Observe all restrictions and follow any regulations or
rules. Areas with a potentially explosive environment are often,
but notalways, clearly marked. Do not usethe Thuraya IP
Voyagerwhile at a petrol filling station. Do not use near fuel or
chemicals.

Connecting devices
Never connect incompatible devices to the Thuraya IP
Voyager.When connecting the Thuraya IPVoyager to any
other device,read the device's User Manual for detailed
safety instructions.
Pacemakers
The various brands and models of cardiac pacemakers
available exhibit a wide range of immunity levels to radio
signals. Therefore,people who wear a cardiac pacemaker
andwho want to use the Thuraya IPVoyager shouldseekthe
advice of their cardiologist. If, as a pacemaker user, you are
still concerned about interaction with the Thuraya IP Voyager,
wesuggest youfollow theseguidelines:
• Maintainadistanceof20cmfrom theWi-Fiantenna
andyour pacemaker:
• Maintainadistance ofone meterfrom the mainADU
frontandsidesandyourpacemaker;
• Refertoyourpacemakerproductliteraturefor
informationonyour particular device.
Ifyou have any reason to suspect that interference is taking
place,tum off your Thuraya IP Voyager immediately.
Hearingaids
Most new models of hearingaids areimmuneto radio
frequencyinterferencefromsatelliteterminalsthataremore
than2metersaway.Manytypesofolderhearingaids maybe
susceptibletointerference,makingitverydifficulttousethem
nearaterminal.Shouldinterferencebeexperienced,maintain
additionalseparationbetweenyou andthe IP Voyager.

Electrical Storms
Operation of the Thuraya IP Voyager duringelectrical storms
mayresultinsevere personal injuryor death. Ensure the
Below Deck Equipment is properly grounded to the vehicle
chassis.

Introduction
YourThurayaIPVoyagerterminalprovidesmobile,high-speeddata
communicationsviasatellite.Using"AlwaysOn"technology,youcan
remainconnected to the Internetwhileonly sendingorreceivingthe
datathatyouneedatspeedsofupto444kbits/s,just asifyouwere
sittingatyour officedesk.
The Thuraya IPVoyager workswithyour computer usinganEthernet or
Wi-Fi connectionmuch likecommercially availablewireless routers. Note
that the Wi-FiAccess Point in theThuraya IPVoyager uses a separate
subnet and DHCPserver than thewired Ethernet port. An internal router
allows IPtraffic toflow seamlessly between the two subnets andout over
the satellite link.
WhiletheThuraya IPVoyager operates verysimilarly toother data
modems that you may be familiarwith, there are a few important
operating differences to note. Please read this user guide carefully to
understand all the aspects of operatingyourThuraya IPVoyager.

terminal as it applies to your installation.

1it-1it-I GlobalPositioningSystemOperation
The Thuraya IPVoyager contains anintegrated Global Positioning
System (GPS) receiver that is usedto providelocationinformation. GPS
location information is required for system access, and the reception of
a new GPS location is attempted automaticallyevery time Thuraya IP
Voyager is powered on. The GPS receiver is located inthe antenna,
otherwise known as the Above Deck Unit (ADU). Itis updated
automatically during operation provided the ADU is able to receive the
GPS signal.

The Thuraya IPVoyager can beaccessed through astandard web
browser interface. To accomplish this, the connected computer must
have one of the followingsupported browsers installed alongwith Java
enabled (Java RuntimeEnvironment 1.3.1 or later).
• InternetExplorer 6.0orlater
• Firefox2.0
• AOLExplorer
• Macintosh Safari
To access theThuraya IPVoyager,connect your computer via Ethernet
orWLAN, runasupported browser and enter http:/1192.168.128.100into
the browser's address field.You maywish to add this address to the
browser's bookmark list so the address will be easierto findinthe future.
When active,the browser interface will allow you to access the wMMI.
Eachofthe mainweb pages containsimportantstatus informationin
theupperlefthandcorner.Thebargraphnexttothe H icon
representsreceive signalstrength.Duringa streamingsession thisarea
also maintainsa timerto record how long the session has lasted.

The HomeScreen providesyouwith key summary status information
about the Thuraya IPVoyager and is also a gateway intoThuraya IP
Voyager management.
NetworkStatus: Providesthe status of the network connection.
Transmit Rate: Provides the requested and actualtransmit channel data
rate. The actual allocated data rate may vary from the one requested
due tosubscription orsystem capacity restrictions.
Receive Rate: Provides the requested and actual receive channel data
rate. The actual allocated data rate may vary from the one requested
due tosubscription orsystem capacity restrictions.
Fixed Rate: Providesthestatus of theFixed Ratecontrol.Enable Fixed
Rate when using a streaming connection that must match the
requested data rate.If the rateis unavailable,the connectionis denied.
Multimedia: ProvidesthestatusoftheMultimediacontrol.Enable
MultimediawhenusingstreamingapplicationslikeVoiceoverInternet
Protocol(VoIP)orlivevideoplayback.
Connect/Disconnect:Thisbuttontogglesthenetworkconnectionstate
onoroff. When disconnected nodata can besent or received.
Change Data Rate: This button allows you to change the connection
parametersforthecurrentsession.

QuickConnect: These buttons access pre-stored connection profiles.
GPS:The displayincludestheGPSreceiverstate [On/Off),GPSsatellites
visible,GPS validity, compass direction and ADU angle. Once a GPS
position is obtained,the Thuraya IPVoyagerwill provide the compass
directionanddegrees ofelevationtothesatellite.Thisinformationcan
beusedtoensurethattheADU hasaclearviewoftheThurayasatellite
at the current location.

Restore Factory Defaults:When you clickthis button,the restore
messageconffrmaHonscreen informsyouthattheterminalisaboutto
reset to factorydefaults. Restoringthe factorydefaults returns the
Thuraya IPVoyager settingstotheiroriginal,justout-of-the-boxstate.This
does not change thesecurity code or SIMparameters. Pleaseexercise
cautionwhen proceeding.Ifyouinvoke Restore Factory Defaults, you
will need to re-enter any configuration information supplied by your
ServiceProvider.
ResetTerminal: Reboots the terminalsoftware.
Reffll: Connects to the prepaid SIM web site.
UpgradeModem Software: Connects totheThuraya upgraderweb site.

The Statistics Screen provides youwith on estimate of your data usage.
Doto usage figures ore obtained by counting the bytesin the IP pockets
received byand sent from the Thuroyo IPVoyager. You conview both
"since power on" (per session) and "cumulative" (lifetime) data usage
counts.To reset the data countersof asession,simplyselect thereset
button for either transmit or receive and click the Apply button.

Connection Management Screen. The customization parameters for
eachbuttonareasfollows:
Transmit Rateand Receive Connection Rate: Allows you to select the
transmit and receive rates from the list of bandwidth values.
Multimedia Control: Allows you to enable or disable Automatic Repeat-
reQuest (ARQ) overthesatellite.Typically,ARQ-an errorcontrol protocol
for data transmission-is best disabled for voice or video traffic.
FixedRateControl: Allowsyoutoenableordisablefixedrateservice
overthesatellite. You canforce theconnectiontomatchthe requested
QoS.If disabled, the beststreamingratepossible - uptoandincluding
theselectedrate--will beallowed.If enabled, the terminalwillnotset
upaconnectionunlesstherequestedrateisavailablefromthenetwork.
Remember toclick Apply tosaveanychangesortheywillbelost.

The Status Screen,displayed in a separate window, provides you with a
constantly updated flow of dynamic information and a concise
summaryoftheThurayaIPVoyagerstatus.
When the Status Screen is open,its informationis updated every minute.
NetworkStatus: Provides the status of the network connection.
Signal Quality:This bargraphdisplays satellite signalquality.
Signal Strength: Use this display to monitor incoming signal strength from
thesatellite.
ADU Type: Use this display to determinewhich antenna type is in use.
Status: Anycurrentsystemstatuscodes(seeTroubleshootingsection).
.. Note:Signal Quality vs. Signal Slrength. The Signal Quality
status is a different measure of the received satellite signal
than the Signal Strength status. Seeing differences between
these two levels is normal and not an indication of a problem
withvourThurava IP Vovaaer unit.

Thuraya IP Voyager,you maywant to select the Network Sett ngsScreen
to check your network configuration. This screen provides you with
control over keynetwork access parameters. Hereyou find the
appropriate Domain NameService {DNS) and the Access Point Name
(APN)informationconfigured byyour Service Provider.You are also
given the ability to make changes.

addresses on the Network Settings screen. you must
press
SAVE and exit the wMMI,reboot your computer. and power
the Thuraya IPVoyager off and then backon
so that the new
settinoscan take effect.

PrivateLocalIPAddress:Thissettingallowsyoutochangethe allfour
octets of the terminal's (BDU} local gateway address. Changing this
address will change the address of the wMMIand the base address for
theEthernetDHCPserver.ThissubnetmustremainuniquefromtheWLAN
subnet address beingused.
DHCPServer:TheDHCPserverfor Ethernetcanbeenabled ordisabled

Netmode: This command allows for NAT or Relay Modeto beselected.
TheNAT(NetworkAddressTranslation}modeallowsmultipledevicesto
beconnected via the Ethernet and WLAN ports.This is the default
operating mode. Relay Mode is used for specialsituations where a single
local device needs to be assigned the same address as the Global IP
Address assigned to the terminalBDU.The connected deviceis assigned
a LAN address initially, butwith a very short DHCP lease time.When the
Global IPAddress is assignedto the terminal BDUit is flowed throughto
the connected devicevia a DHCP address reassignment. AllWAN traffic
flows through to the single connected device with no port or address
translation. Relay Modeis only available onthe Ethernet port and DHCP
must be enabled at the same time on the connected device.
GlobalIPAddress:
ObtainAddress Automatically:Ifthis buttonis selected, the Thuraya
IPVoyager usesan IPaddress automaticallyassigned bythe
network during the period when the terminalconnects to the
network.
Static IPAddress: If this button is selected, the Thuraya IP Voyager
uses the IPaddress you enter inthe associated IP Address field.

DNS:
ObtainDNS Address Automatically: If this buttonis selected, the
Thuraya IPVoyagerusesa Primary HostDomainNameService
(DNS} automatically assigned bythe network during the period
when the terminal connects to the network.
StaticDNSHost:Ifthisbuttonis selected, theThurayaIPVoyager uses
theDNSaddressyouenterintheDNSAddressfield.Youshould
check this box and enter an IP address only if directed to do so
byyour Service Provider.
DMZ Host: If you wish to route incoming network originated IP traffic to a
specific connected device,enter that device's IPaddressin this

protectagainstmaliciousattacksfromthe lntemet.
APN Selection:If use of multiple lntemet Service Providers isrequired,you
can modify the current Access Point Name (APN) value.You should
modify these fields only if directedto do so byyour Service Provider. The
choicesarethefollowing:Streaming-CBR,Refill,<BLANK> (enterthe
desired name) and Disabled.
SAVE/ CANCEL: If youwant the values you have entered to be
processed,click the SAVE button,exit the wMMI, and reboot your
computer.You will also needto turn the terminal BDU off and then on
againso that the new settings can take effect. If you want the values
you have entered to be ignored, click the CANCEL button and the
Network Settings remain as they werewith no reboot required.

SIMPIN Disable/Enable: If Enabled,a prompt requestsyoutoenter the
SIMPINeach timeyou power up the modem.This helps prevent
unauthorised useof your SIM.Disablethisfeaturetoskipthe PIN entry
process. To change the setting,click the desired one,enter the current
SIMPIN (required),and click the Save button.
