SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. CAUTION:
Nomodificationof anycircuit should be attempted. Service work should onlybe performed after you
are throughfamiliar withall of the following safetychecks andservicingguide lines.
2. SAFETYCHECK
Care should be takenwhile servicingthis LCD display. Because of the highvoltage used inthe inverter circuit.
These voltage are exposed insuch areas as the associatedtransformer circuits.
3. POWERSUPPLY REQUIREMENTS
The external power converter for this displayutilizes ACandDC cords, ACcord is detachable,
but DC cord is permanentlyattached. Any attempt toreplace anotheradaptercould result in serious
problemonthe display.
4. LEAKAGE CURRENT HOT CHECK
4-1 Plug the AC cord directlyintothe ACoutlet. Donot use anisolation transformer duringthis check.
4-2 Connect a 1500 ohm , 10watt resistor , paralleledbya 0.15uF capacitor betweeneach
metallic part and a good earth ground.
4-3 Use anACvoltmeter with1000ohm / volt ormore sensitivityand measure the ACvoltage
across the combination 1500 ohm resistor and0.15uF capacitor.
4-4 Move the resistor connectiontoeach exposedmetallic part and measure the voltage.
4-5 Reverse the polarityof the ACpluginthe AC outlet andrepeat the above measurement.
4-6 Voltage measured must not exceed1.5 volt RMS, fromanyexposedmetallic part to the ground.
Aleakage current testermaybe used in the above hot check, in whichcase anycircuit measured
must not exceed1 miliamp. In the case ofa measurement exceeding the 1miliamp value,
a reworkis requiredtoeliminate the chance ofa shock hazard.

4. THEORY OF OPERATION
This section describes the function ofthe LCD monitor per functional block.
L5EPmonitorincludes MBboard(including audio boardfunction inside), inverter board, adapter andbutton board.
4.1 MB BOARD
The MB boardis a four-layer, single-landed designwithgroundand internal planes provided. DCpower
fromthe power adapter enterthe boardthrough DC jack. Other connectors onthe board are forinverter,
andbutton board.The VGA cable is a signal cable that contains videosignal, sync signal andDDC
signal fromPC VGAadapter.
The systemboardconsists of3functional areas : flat panel controller, micro-controller, power regulator
4.1.1 Flat panelcontroller MST8016 (U2)
The heart of the systemboardis MST8016. The MST8016is a graphics processing IC forLCD monitor.
It providesallkeyICfunctionsrequiredforLCDpanel.On-chipfunctionsincludea high-speed
triple-ADC,PLL,highscalingengine,andOSDcontroller.
a) ClockGeneration :
Crystal Input Clock (TCLK and XTAL). This is the input pair to aninternal crystal oscillatorand
correspondinglogic.A14.318MHzcrystalisrecommended.
b)Hardware Reset ( Pin 155 )
Hardware Reset signal is generatedbymicro-controller(U4, pin 36).It assert a reset signal at least 100ms.
c) Analogto Digital Converter
The MST8016chiphas three ADC's (analog-to-digital converters), one foreachcolor(red, green and blue)
The analog RGB signals are connected to MST8016 as described below
d)Panel Power Sequencing( VDDCTRL, INVCTRL) ( Pin20~21)
The MCU has two dedicatedoutputs VDDCTRL1, 2 andINVCTRL (Pin9, 16and Pin36)to control LCD power

4.1.3 Power reference AIC1739 (Q3)
TheAIC1739is a2.5V voltage provider. It could support maximum100mAcurrentcapability.The2.5V reference was for
scaler MST8016reference. The voltage was veryimportant for this all the functionthat MVZ have.
4.2 Inverter/Power/Audio Board
This is a specific inverter/Power/Audiomodule forL5TD monitor withbacklight/EE parts/audio function.
4.2.1 Inverter function
The inverter converters 12 Vdc to drive twocold cathode fluorescence tubes. Electrical specification described as below.

This is a general purpose AC / DCadapter which converter 90~240 Vac toa stabilizedDC voltage 12V
