by the battery manufacturer and the manufacturer of any equipment or vehicle that you
intend to use the Rescue®Battery Charger.

The Rescue® Battery Charger is designed for charging LEAD-ACID batteries only. DO
NOT USE THIS BATTERY CHARGER FOR OTHER TYPES OF BATTERIES; doing so
can cause damage to the battery or injury to persons.

Risk of contact with battery acid. Battery acid is highly corrosive sulfuric acid. Use caution
when working with and around a battery.
• Do not use the Rescue®Battery Charger if case, battery clamps or cords are cut, cracked, or
damaged in any way
• Do touch the clamps or ring terminals to any conductive material or touch them to each other
• No lubrication is recommended or required
• Do not attempt to repair the unit or replace parts-unauthorized repairs will void your warranty
• If your Rescue®Battery Charger requires service, follow the directions in the warranty section
• Do not open the Rescue®Battery Charger unit’s case, as there are no user-serviceable parts.
Opening and closing the unit could cause electric shock or cause injury
• Do not operate unit in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of ammable liquids,
gases, or dust
• Do not smoke or allow a spark or ame in the vicinity of a battery or engine
• Do not expose the unit to excessive heat

• Do not charge a frozen battery. If the battery is frozen, bring into a warm area to thaw before

How To Use Your RESCUE® Batter Charger Safely
Personal Precautions and Saftey
• Use only accessories that are included with your battery charger or recommended by the
manufacturer. Use of non-recommended accessories may result in re, electric shock, or
injury
• Do not disconnect the battery charger by pulling the cord. Disconnect by pulling at the
outlet plug. Pulling on the cord may cause damage to cord or plug
• Connect and disconnect the DC output clamps only after removing the AC plug from the
electrical outlet. Never allow the clamps to touch each other
• To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug charger from outlet before attempting any mainte-
nance or cleaning
• Do not operate the battery charger in a closed-in or restricted area without adequate ventila-
tion. Always charge battery in a well ventilated area
• Do not attempt to start the vehicle’s engine with charger connected
• Do not touch the battery clamps or ring terminals together when the charger is energized
• Locate charger as far away from battery as the power cables permit. Place or mount on a
stable surface
• Do not use an extension cord unless absolutely necessary. Use of an improper extension
cord could result in re or electric shock. If an extension cord must be used, make sure that:
• Pins on plug of extension cord are
the same number, size, and shape
as those of plug on charger
• Extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition
• The wire size of the extension cord is large enough for AC rating of charger; see Speci-
cations and Features section
• Do not alter the AC cord or plug. Improper connection can result in
a risk of electrical shock
• If it is necessary to remove the battery from the vehicle to charge it, always remove the
grounded terminal rst. Make sure all of the accessories in the vehicle are o to prevent
arcing

Working in the vicinity of a lead acid battery is dangerous. Batteries generate explosive
gases during normal battery operation. It is important to follow these instructions each time
you use this charger.

Operating Modes – Charging Features
• Wear Safety goggles whenever working around lead-acid batteries
• Wear gloves and protective clothing
• Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid when you work near a
lead-acid battery
• Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby for use if battery acid contacts skin, clothing, or
eyes. If battery acid contacts skin or clothing, wash immediately with soap and water
• Avoid touching your eyes while working with a battery. Airborne particles may get into your
eyes. If acid enters your eye, immediately ood eye with running cold water for at least 10
minutes. Get immediate medical attention
• Remove all metal articles such as rings, bracelets, necklaces, and watches when working with
a lead-acid battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-circuit current high enough to
weld these items to a metal surface, causing a severe burn
• Take care not to drop a metal tool or other metal onto the battery. Metal may cause sparking
or short circuit the battery or another electrical device. Sparking may cause an explosion
• Clean the battery terminals before charging the battery. During cleaning,
keep airborne corrosion from coming into contact with your eyes, nose, and mouth
The Rescue® 4A/1A, 6/12V Battery Charger has the ability to automatically cycle through nine
stages to repair, charge, and maintain your battery.
This charger has a high charge rate of 4 Amps for faster charging, and a lower charge rate of
1 Amp to charge smaller size batteries. It is intended for charging 12 volt and 6 volt lead-acid
batteries including AGM and Gel cell types.
IMPORTANT: THE RESCUE® 4A/1A, 6/12V BATTERY CHARGER CAN EASILY BE CONFIGURED
TO CHARGE MANY TYPES OF 12 VOLT AND 6 VOLT LEAD ACID BATTERIES. THE FOLLOWING
RECOMMENDATIONS ARE ONLY TO BE USED AS GUIDELINES. ALWAYS CONSULT THE BATTERY
MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BEST WAY TO CHARGE YOUR BATTERY.

Operating Modes – Charging Features Cont.
The Rescue® 4A/1A, 6/12V Battery Charger has four Charge Mode settings, the Mode
button is used to select each mode based on size and type of battery. The mode button
is pressed and released to cycle through each mode setting:
The Rescue® 4A/1A, 6/12V Battery Charger has ve Status indicators:
The Power light indicates the charger is activated and ready to
charge
The Charging light indicates active bulk charging cycles up to
90% charged
The Fault light indicates reverse polarity, bad battery, or short
circuit
The Repair light indicates the current charge in the battery is below 10
volts and the charger is going through the needed “repair” stages before
going to the bulk charging stage
The Full light indicates the battery has reached 91% - 100%
charge and is in “maintenance” mode to keep the battery at
optimum charge levels
12 Volt / 1 Amp: This charging mode is recommended for smaller batteries such as
motorcycles, ATVs, lawn and garden equipment, snowmobiles, etc.
12 Volt / 4 Amps: This charging mode is recommended for mid-sized batteries found in
smaller cars, motorcycles, small shing boats
12 Volt / 4 Amps AGM or Cold batteries: This charging mode is recommended for
AGM or Gel batteries; also this mode is optimized for cold weather charging/maintaining
6 Volt / 4 Amps: This charging mode is recommended for most 6 volt lead acid batteries
IMPORTANT:THERE IS A “NEUTRAL” MODE POSITION.WHEN PRESSING THE MODE BUTTON TO SELECT ONE
OF THE CHARGING MODES THERE WILL BE A “MODE” THAT NONE OF THE LIGHTS WILL ACTIVATE. THIS IS THE
“NEUTRAL” MODE. THIS IS THE STARTING POSITION EACH TIME THE CHARGER IS ACTIVATED.
Battery Charger Cable Assembly Types
Included with the Rescue® Battery Charger are two output options for connecting the
charger to a battery. Either cable assembly can be connected to the charger in seconds
with the quick-connection feature on the cable assemblies.
1. Battery Clamp cable assembly:
Used for a wide variety of battery terminals,
recommended for batteries that are easily
accessible
2. Ring Terminal cable assembly:
The ring terminals permanently attach to the
battery providing easy access to quickly charge
your battery. This application is appropriate for
motorcycles, lawn tractors, ATV’s, snowmobiles,
and other vehicles that are stored or have hard to
access battery locations
IMPORTANT: CONNECT AND DISCONNECT THE CHARGER OUTPUT ONLY AFTER REMOVING THE
AC PLUG FROM THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET. NEVER ALLOW THE BATTERY CLAMPS TO TOUCH EACH
OTHER WHEN THE BATTERY CHARGER IS ENERGIZED.
• Identify the polarity of the battery posts. The positive post will be marked with a “P”,
“+”, “POS”, or the color RED. The negative post will be marked with an “N”, “-“, “NEG”,
or the color BLACK
• The charger’s output cables have color-coded battery clamps, Red for Positive (+) and
Black for Negative (-)
• Connect the Black clamp (-) to the corresponding Negative terminal rst, then connect
the Red clamp (+) to the corresponding Positive terminal
• Connect the charger to a grounded AC electrical outlet. The “power” light will illuminate.
The battery charger is activated
• If the charging clamps are connected in reverse, the power light will illuminate but the
“charging” or “full” lights will not activate. This is indication of a reverse polarity connec-
tion. Unplug the charger from the AC electrical outlet and check the connections
• To permanently attach the ring terminals to a battery, loosen and remove each nut from
the bolts at the battery terminals
• Connect the RED Positive ring terminal to the Positive battery terminal
• Connect the BLACK Negative ring terminal to the Negative battery terminal
• Replace and tighten the nuts to secure each ring terminal in place

2. Ring Terminal cable assembly continued:
• Take care to keep both wires and cable assembly away from metal and the engine hood to
avoid pinching or crushing the cable assembly
• Plug the Ring Terminal cable assembly into the mating connector of the charger
• Connect the charger to a grounded AC electrical outlet. The LED “power” light will illumi-
nate. The battery charger is activated
• If the charging clamps are connected in reverse, the power light will illuminate but the
“charging” or “full” lights will not activate. This is indication of a reverse polarity connection.
Unplug the charger from the AC electrical outlet and check the connections
• When the charging is complete:
• Unplug the charger from the AC electrical outlet
• Disconnect the ring terminal cable assembly from the charger and take care to place the
protected cap over the open quick-connection of the ring terminal cable assembly
• Reference the vehicle’s owner’s manual to determine voltage of your battery and make sure that
the output voltage of the charger is the correct voltage for your battery
• Read, understand, and follow all instructions for the charger, battery, vehicle and any equipment
used near the battery and charger. Study all of the battery manufacturer’s specic precautions
while charging and recommended rates of charge
• Make sure the initial charge rate is not over battery manufacturer’s suggestion
• Clean battery terminals. Be careful to keep corrosion from coming in contact with eyes, nose or
mouth
• If it is necessary to remove battery from vehicle to charge, or to clean terminals, always remove
the grounded terminal from battery rst. Make sure all accessories in the vehicle are turned o to
prevent arcing
• If applicable, add distilled water in each cell until battery acid reaches level specied by battery
manufacturer. This helps purge excessive gas from cells. Do not overll. For a battery without cell
caps, carefully follow manufacturers recharging instructions
• Be sure area around battery is well ventilated while battery is being charged
• When attaching the battery clamps to the battery post, twist and rock back and forth several
times to ensure a good connection. This will keep the clamps from slipping o the terminals and
helps to reduce the risk of sparking
• Locate the battery charger as far away from the battery as the DC cables permit

Operating Instructions: Charging Battery in Vehicle
• Do not place the charger directly above the battery being charged; gases from the
battery will corrode and damage the charger
• Do not place the charger on ammable materials such as, carpeting, upholstery, paper, card-
board, etc.
• Do not set a battery on top of the charger
• Never allow battery acid to drop on the charger when reading the specic gravity or lling the battery
• Do not operate the charger in a closed in area or restrict ventilation in any way
• Position the battery charger’s AC and DC cords in an area to reduce risk of damage by hood,
door, or moving engine part
• Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys, and other parts that can cause injury
• Check polarity of battery posts. The Positive (POS, P, +) battery post usually has a larger diameter
than the Negative (NEG, N, -) post
• Determine which post of battery is grounded (connected) to the chassis
• If Negative post is grounded to chassis (as in most vehicles), connect Positive (RED) clamp from
battery charger to Positive ungrounded battery post. Connect the Negative (BLACK) clamp to the
vehicle chassis or engine block away from battery. Do not connect clamp to the carburetor, fuel
lines, or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block
• Plug the charger into a grounded AC electrical outlet. The charger is now activated. The “Power”
light will illuminate.
• If the connection is reversed, the Fault light will illuminate. Unplug the battery charger from
the AC electrical outlet and correct the connections
• Set the charger to the desired mode by pressing the mode button until the mode light you
want illuminates. The “repair” light will activate as it checks or “qualies” the current state
of the battery. There may be an audible “click” sound as this stage is checking the battery
• The charger will either stay in “repair” status or the “charge” light will illuminate
• The “full” light will illuminate when the battery is at optimum levels and the battery is being
maintained
• When disconnecting the battery charger, disconnect the charger from the AC electrical outlet rst,
remove clamp from vehicle chassis, and then remove clamp from battery terminal
• Clean and store your Rescue®Battery Charger

IMPORTANT: DO NOT CHARGE A BATTERY WHILE THE ENGINE IS OPERATING. DO NOT START
THE ENGINE WHILE THE BATTERY CHARGER IS CONNECTED.

Operating Instructions: Charging Battery Outside Vehicle

A spark near the battery may cause a battery explosion. To reduce the risk of a spark
near the battery read and follow these instructions
When removing the battery from a vehicle or boat, disconnect the grounded post rst.
When disconnecting, make sure all accessories are off, to avoid arcing. When reinstalling
the battery, attach the ground post rst.
IMPORTANT: A MARINE BATTERY MUST BE REMOVED AND CHARGED ON SHORE. (TO CHARGE
ON-BOARD REQUIRES SPECIAL EQUIPMENT DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR MARINE USE.)
IMPORTANT: BE SURE AREA AROUND BATTERY IS WELL VENTILATED WHILE BATTERY IS BEING CHARGED.
• Identify the polarity of the battery posts. The positive post will be marked with a “P”, “+”,
“POS”, or the color RED. The negative post will be marked with an “N”, “-“, “NEG”, or the
color BLACK
• Attach at least a 24inch long, 6 AWG insulated battery cable
to the Negative (NEG, -, N) battery post
• Connect the Positive (RED) charger clamp to Positive battery post
• Position yourself and the free end of the cable as far away from the battery as possible,
then connect Negative (BLACK) charger clamp to the free end of the cable
• Do not face battery when making nal connection
• Connect the charger into a grounded AC electrical outlet. The charger is now activated.
The “Power” light will illuminate.
• If the connection is reversed, the Fault light will illuminate. Unplug the battery charger
from the AC electrical outlet and correct the connections
• Set the charger to the desired mode by pressing the mode button until the mode light
you want illuminates. The “repair” light will activate as it checks or “qualies” the cur-
rent state of the battery. There may be an audible “click” sound as this stage is checking
the battery
• The charger will either stay in “repair” status or the “charge” light will illuminate
• The “full” light will illuminate when the battery is at optimum levels and the battery is
being maintained
• When disconnecting the battery charger, disconnect the charger from the AC electrical out-
let rst. Then remove the battery clamp from Negative post and remove the battery clamp
from Positive battery post.

Calculate Charging Time
• Y our Rescue®Battery Charger needs very limited assembly
• Unwrap the battery clamp cable assembly and/or the ring terminal cable assembly cord
and connect one of the assemblies to the output cord using the quick-connect plug
• When not in use, cover the open quick-connect plugs using the connection cover on the cable
Your Rescue®Battery Charger needs only minimal maintenance to deliver years of
dependable service. Follow these simple steps to maintain the charger in optimum condition.
The chart below will assist with estimating the time it will take to bring your battery to an
optimum charge. Identify where your battery ts into the chart.
Note: The times given are estimated for batteries with a 50% charge prior to recharging.
Times will vary depending on severity of discharge, age and condition of battery.
• Before performing maintenance, unplug and disconnect the battery charger
• After each use, clean the battery charger clamps with an acid neutralizing wipe or similar
cleaner to be sure to remove any battery uid that will cause corrosion of the metal clamp
and other surfaces
• Clean the outside case of the charger with a soft dry cloth and, if necessary, mild soap
solution. DO NOT SUBMERGE THE BATTERY CHARGER IN WATER
• Keep the charger cords loosely coiled during storage to prevent damage
• Maintenance does not require opening the unit. There are no serviceable parts. Opening
the unit could cause damage and possible injury. Opening the unit will void all warranty
• Do not use the charger if cords or clamps have been damaged in any way
• If the AC power supply cord is cut or damaged, do not use the charger
• Store your battery charger unplugged, in an upright position. The AC input cord will
conduct electricity until it is unplugged from the electrical outlet
• Store inside in a cool, dry place
• Do not store the battery clamps, clamped together, on or around metal, or clipped to the cables

Troubleshooting your Rescue®Battery Charger
Inspect all accessories for:
• Cuts or abrasions in the cables
• Cracks or broken connections
• Excessive corrosion on any connections
• Damaged housing
• Secure connection at AC electrical outlet

Rescue®Battery Charger Limited Warranty
The Manufacturer warrants this product against defects in material and workmanship for Two (2)
years from the date of original retail purchase. Quick Cable will, at its option, repair or replace
defective units. Quick Cable encourages you to register your product at www.quickcable.com/
register and to retain your original sales receipt with this manual for warranty purposes. Damage
caused by misuse or improper connections, failure to follow prescribed operating instructions,
impact damage, or negligence is not covered by this warranty. The manufacturer reserves the
right to inspect units for improper use in determining warranty coverage.
EXCEPT FOR THIS LIMITED WARRANTY, THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT MADE AND SPE-

UFACTURER BE LIABLE FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES. Some states
do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages so the above
limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specic legal rights and
you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Any claim relating to the Battery
Charger must be submitted within two (2) years of purchase and must be returned to the place

ment corrosif. Faire preuve de prudence lors de tout travail sur la batterie ou à proximité de celle-ci.
• Ne pas utiliser le chargeur de batterie Rescue® si son boîtier, ses pinces ou ses câbles sont
coupés, fendus ou endommagés de quelque façon que ce soit.
• Ne pas toucher les pinces ni les cosses à anneau avec un matériau conducteur; ne pas mettre
non plus ces pièces en contact entre elles.
• Ne pas lubrier l’appareil; aucune lubrication n’est requise.
• Ne pas tenter de réparer l’appareil ni de remplacer les pièces; toute réparation non autorisée
annulera la garantie.
• Si le chargeur de batterie Rescue®doit être réparé, suivre les directives contenues dans la section
portant sur la garantie.
• Ne pas ouvrir le boîtier du chargeur de batterie Rescue®; il ne contient aucune pièce qui peut être
réparée par l’utilisateur. L’ouverture et la fermeture du boîtier peuvent causer un choc électrique
ou des blessures.
• Ne pas faire fonctionner l’appareil sous une atmosphère explosive comme en présence de
liquides, de gaz ou de poussières inammables.
• Ne pas fumer ni permettre la présence d’une étincelle ou d’une amme à proximité d’une batterie
ou d’un moteur.
• Ne pas exposer l’appareil à une température excessive.
• L’appareil ne doit en aucun cas être mouillé ou immergé dans l’eau.
• Le chargeur de batterie Rescue® n’est pas un jouet; son utilisation par des enfants ou des per-
sonnes handicapées doit se faire sous surveillance.
• Ne pas charger une batterie gelée. Si la batterie est gelée, placer celle-ci dans un endroit chaud
pour la faire dégeler avant de la charger.

Utilisation sécuritaire du chargeur de batterie RESCUE®
Précautions individuelles et sécurité
• N’utiliser que les accessoires livrés avec le chargeur de batterie ou ceux recommandés
par le fabricant. L’utilisation d’accessoires qui n’ont pas été recommandés peut causer un
incendie, des chocs électriques ou des blessures.
• Ne pas débrancher le chargeur de batterie en tirant sur son cordon. Déconnecter l’appareil
en saisissant la che puis en tirant sur celle-ci. Tirer sur le cordon pourrait endommager la
che ou le cordon.
• Brancher et débrancher les pinces à courant continu uniquement après avoir retiré la che
de la prise à courant alternatif. Ne jamais laisser les pinces se toucher.
• Pour réduire le risque de choc électrique, débrancher le chargeur de la prise d’alimentation
avant de procéder à l’entretien ou au nettoyage de l’appareil.
• Ne pas faire fonctionner le chargeur de batterie dans un endroit clos ou mal ventilé. Il convi-
ent de charger la batterie dans un endroit bien ventilé.
• Ne pas tenter de démarrer le moteur du véhicule alors que le chargeur est branché.
• Ne pas mettre en contact les pinces pour batterie ni les cosses à anneau lorsque le char-
geur est sous tension.
• Placer le chargeur aussi loin de la batterie que la longueur des câbles le permet. Placer ou
installer le chargeur sur une surface stable.
• Ne pas utiliser de rallonge électrique, sauf si cela est absolument nécessaire. L’utilisation
d’une rallonge electrique inappropriée peut provoquer un incendie ou un choc électrique. Si
une rallonge doit être utilisée, s’assurer que les conditions suivantes sont satisfaites :
• Les caractéristiques des broches de la rallonge correspondent à celles du chargeur, dont
leur nombre, dimension et forme.
• La rallonge est correctement câblée et en bon état électrique.
• La section du câble de la rallonge est susante pour l’alimentation nominale du char-
geur. Voir la rubrique Caractéristiques techniques.
• Ne pas modier le cordon ni la che électrique. Un branchement incorrect pourrait caus-
er un choc électrique.
• S’il est nécessaire d’enlever la batterie du véhicule pour la charger, toujours débranch-
er d’abord la borne mise à la masse. S’assurer que tous les accessoires électriques du
véhicule sont éteints pour éviter la formation d’un arc électrique.
Il est dangereux de travailler à proximité d’une batterie d’accumulateurs au plomb. Une
batterie génère des gaz explosifs pendant son fonctionnement normal. Il est important de
suivre les présentes instructions à chaque utilisation du chargeur.

• Il est nécessaire de porter des lunettes de sécurité pour tout travail réalisé à proximité d’une bat-
terie d’accumulateurs au plomb.
• Porter des gants et des vêtements de protection.
• Informer une autre personne qu’un travail est eectué à proximité d’une batterie d’accumulateurs
au plomb. Cette personne doit pouvoir apporter son soutien au besoin.
• Prévoir une grande quantité d’eau potable et du savon à proximité du lieu de travail à utiliser au cas
où l’acide entrerait en contact avec les yeux, la peau ou les vêtements. Si l’acide de la batterie entre
en contact avec la peau ou les vêtements, laver immédiatement ceux-ci avec de l’eau et du savon.
• Éviter de se toucher les yeux pendant tout travail avec une batterie. Les particules en suspension
peuvent pénétrer dans les yeux. Si de l’acide pénètre dans les yeux, rincer immédiatement ceux-ci
à grande eau pendant au moins 10 minutes. Appeler immédiatement un médecin.
• Enlever tout article métallique tels que les bagues, les bracelets, les colliers et les montres lorsque
l’on travaille avec une batterie d’accumulateurs au plomb. La batterie d’accumulateurs au plomb
peut générer un courant de court-circuit susamment élevé pour souder ces bijoux à des surfaces
métalliques, ce qui causerait des brûlures graves.
• Aucun outil métallique ne doit heurter le dessus de la batterie. Un outil métallique peut causer des
étincelles ou un court-circuit sur la batterie ou un autre appareil électrique. Les étincelles peuvent
provoquer une explosion.
• Nettoyer les bornes de la batterie avant de charger cette dernière. Pendant le nettoyage, s’assurer
que les particules en suspension provenant de la corrosion ne pénètrent pas dans les yeux, le nez
ou la bouche.
Le chargeur de batterie Rescue® 4 A/1 A et 6 V/12 V utilise 9 niveaux de charge automatiques
pour eectuer la réparation, la charge et l’entretien de la batterie.
Le chargeur ore un mode de charge rapide avec une intensité de 4 A ainsi qu’un mode de charge lente avec
une intensité de 1 A destiné à la charge des batteries de plus petite capacité. Le chargeur a été conçu pour
charger les batteries d’accumulateurs au plomb de 12 V et de 6 V, y compris les batteries au gel et à la bre de
verre imprégnée d’électrolyte (AGM).
