Radio Shack HS-1977 User manual

Your RadioShack HS-1977 Behind-the-Head Headset
with Mute, Volume Control and Noise Cancellation gives
you portable, convenient communication. Using the ultra-
light headset while you make and receive calls, you can
keep your hands free to do other things. The headset
connects easily to many cordless or cellular phones that
have a 3/32-inch (2.5mm) jack.
Your headset includes these features:
Reversible Ear Piece — lets you wear the headset over
either ear.
Swivel Ear Hanger — suitable for left-handed or right-
handed.
Flexible Microphone Boom — lets you adjust the micro-
phone’s position so callers can hear you more clearly.
Ear Muff — reduces ambient sound and provides a com-
fortable listening experience.
Noise Canceling Microphone — minimize surrounding
noise and unnecessary wind sound while you talk to the
microphone.
On-cord Volume Control and Mute ON/OFF Switch—
easily adjust the incoming sound source volume level and
mute control for microphone.
Lapel Clip — lets you securely anchor the headset’s
modular cord to your clothing to prevent the headset from
slipping.
Hearing-Aid Compatible — lets you use the headset
with telephones designed to work with hearing aids that
have a T (telephone)switch.
Replaceable Microphone Sponge and Ear Muff — lets
you easily replace for hygiene purposes.
CONNECTING THE HEADSET
Insert the headset’s mini plug into the 3/32-inch (2.5 mm)
jack of a cordless or cellular phone.
ADJUSTING THE HEADSET
1. Place the headset over either ear as shown.
2. Hold the headset in place and adjust the microphone
boom until it is about even with your chin. Experiment
until you find the most comfortable position.
3. Attach the cord’s lapel clip to your clothing. Leave
enough slack in the cord so you can move your head
without pulling the headset.
USING VOLUME AND MUTE
Adjust the phone’s volume to a point between its middle
and maximum levels, then adjust VOLUME on the head-
phone’s cord to a comfortable level.
Turn MUTE switch to ON on the headset’s cord to turn off
the microphone, turn MUTE to OFF to turn it on.

Listening Safely
To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when
you use the headset.
• Set the phone’s volume to the lowest setting before
you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust
the volume to a comfortable level.
• Do not listen at extremely high volume levels.
Extended high-volume listening can lead to perma-
nent hearing loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over
time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a vol-
ume level that does not cause discomfort might still
damage your hearing.
Traffic Safety
Do not use the headset with your cellular telephone when
operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle in or near
traffic. Doing so can create a traffic hazard and could be
illegal in some areas.
If you use the headset with your cellular telephone while
riding a bicycle, be very careful. Do not listen to a contin-
uous broadcast. Even though some earphones/head-
phones let you hear some outside sounds when listening
at normal volume levels, they still can present a traffic
hazard.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Your RadioShack HS-1977 Behind-the-Head Headset
with Mute, Volume Control and Noise Cancellation is an
example of superior design and craftsmanship. The fol-
lowing suggestions will help you care for your headset so
you can enjoy it for years.
• Keep the headset dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry imme-
diately.
• Handle the headset gently and carefully. Don’t drop
it.
• Use and store the headset only in normal tempera-
ture environments.
• Keep the headset away from dust and dirt.
• Wipe the headset with a damp cloth occasionally to
keep it looking new.
Modifying or tampering with the headset’s internal com-
ponents can cause a malfunction and might invalidate
your headset’s warranty. If your headset is not perform-
ing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for
assistance.
