FEATURES
Your Octiva Numeric Pager lets you keep in touch
with the office and with family and friends anywhere
around town. You can set the pager to alert you with
either a gentle vibration or one of four tone patterns.
Your pager comes with a convenient belt-clip/holster
and has these features:
Clock — displays the current date and time, when
you are not viewing a message.
Daily Alarm — lets you set the pager to sound an
alarm at a set time each day.
Low Battery Message and Alert — lets you know
when the battery is low.

Message Protect — lets you protect up to six mes-
sages from accidental deletion (each for up to 1
week).
Long Period Alert —lets you set the pager to briefly
beep or vibrate every 2 minutes, up to 12 hours, to re-
mind you of unread pages.
Automatic Pager Power — lets you set the pager to
turn on and off at specific times every day.
Automatic Display Light — for easy viewing in low
light conditions, the pager’s display lights for about 20
seconds every time you press a button.
Please read these instructions to ensure that you fully
understand your pager’s operation.
Note: You need one AAA battery (not supplied) to
power your pager.

GETTING STARTED
SUBSCRIBING TO SERVICE
You must subscribe to paging service through Mobile-
Comm before you can start receiving messages.
To activate your pager, call MobileComm or its asso-
ciated carrier at the telephone number listed in the ac-
tivation instructions provided with your pager’s
activation packet.

INSTALLING A BATTERY
Your pager requires one AAA battery. For the best
performance and longest life, we recommend an alka-
line battery, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-555.
Caution: Always use a fresh battery of the required
size and type.

1. Slide the pager out of its holster and be sure the
power switch ( ) on the side of the pager is set
to off (l).
2. Slide the battery cover latch away from the cover
to unlock it, then slide off the cover in the direc-
tion of the arrows marked on the cover.
3. Place a battery in the compartment according to
the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside.
4. Replace the cover and slide the cover latch
toward the cover to lock it.
When battery power becomes low, an alert tone con-
tinuously sounds, Lo –CELL appears, and flash-
es on the display. To stop the alert, press either
button twice. stops flashing and Lo –Cell dis-
appears.

Depending on your pager’s settings and how many
messages you receive, you have at least 12 hours of
battery power left when the low battery alert first oc-
curs. Replace the battery as soon as possible.
Note: The built-in memory stores messages and set-
tings for at least 1 minute (or more, depending on your
pager’s settings and the amount of memory used)
while you change the battery or after the battery loses
power.
Cautions:
• Always dispose of old batteries promptly and
properly. Do not burn or bury them.
• If you will not be using the pager for several
weeks, remove the battery.

OPERATION
TURNING POWER ON/OFF AND
SELECTING THE ALERT TYPE
(lV B) on the side of your pager slides to turn pow-
er on or off and set the alert type (beep or vibrate).
To turn on the pager and have it
vibrate
when you re-
ceive a message, set the switch to Vso the pager vi-
brates.
To turn on the pager and have it
beep
when you re-
ceive a page, set the switch to Bso the pager beeps
and displays .
To turn off the pager, set the switch to lso the display
goes blank.

Notes:
• Each time you turn the pager on, the display
lights and all display characters appear briefly,
then the current date and time (standby display)
appears.
• When you set the switch from B(beep) to V
(vibrate), disappears from the display.
• To conserve battery power, turn off the pager
when you are not using it.
• The pager does not receive messages or display
the time and date while is set to l(off).

Selecting the Alert Tone Pattern
When you set to Bso the pager sounds tones
(beeps) to alert you of messages, you have a choice
of four tone patterns (1–4).
The pager is preset to use tone pattern 1. To select a
different pattern, follow these steps.
1. Be sure is set to Bso the pager displays .
2. At the standby display, repeatedly press until
the pager displays -bEEP SET -.
3. Press . The tone pattern menu appears (bEEP
1234), the pager sounds the currently selected
tone pattern, and that tone number flashes.

4. Repeatedly press to scroll through the tone
patterns. Each time you press the button, the
pager sounds the next tone pattern and that pat-
tern number flashes.
5. When you hear the pattern you want to use,
press to select that pattern and return to the
standby display.

Using Long Period Alert (LPA)
Your pager is preset to alert for 8 seconds then stop,
each time you receive a new message (see “Receiv-
ing and Reading Messages” on Page 18). However,
you can set the pager to briefly alert every 2 minutes
(up to 12 hours) until you read all new messages.
Follow these steps to turn long period alert on or off.
1. At the standby display, repeatedly press until
the pager displays -LPA On -or -LPA OFF -.
2. Press so the pager beeps once.
If you are turning LPA on, the standby display
reappears
with
the long period alert symbol ( ).
If you are turning LPA off, the standby display
reappears
without
the long period alert symbol.

SETTING THE DATE AND TIME
Notes:
• If you do not set the time, the pager incorrectly
reports the times of your messages.
• If you do not press a button for about 1 minute
during these steps, the pager returns to the
standby display. Start again from Step 1.
• To rapidly change the setting in Steps 3–6, press
and hold .
• To use the existing setting in Steps 3–6, simply
press , then skip to the next step.

2. While you press and hold , set to B. The
pager beeps twice and the currently set date and
time appear with the month digit(s) flashing.
3. Repeatedly press to set the month, then press
. The day digits flash.
4. Repeatedly press to set the day, then press
. The hour digit(s) flash.
5. Repeatedly press to set the hour, then press
. The minute digits flash.
Note: Be sure to select the correct AM (A) or PM
(P) hour.
6. Repeatedly press to set the minutes, then
press . All date and time digits flash.
7. Press to store the set date and time and return
to the standby display.

RECEIVING AND READING
MESSAGES
When the pager receives a message, it alerts (beeps
or vibrates) for 8 seconds and displays the incoming
message. To stop the alert sooner, press either but-
ton. If you do not press a button, the message stays
on the display.
To read all messages stored in memory, from newest
to oldest, repeatedly press . Each time you press it,
the pager displays the next message and the time that
message was received (time stamp). When you press
after reading the last message, the memory capac-
ity display appears (see “Memory Capacity” on Page
22).

The standby display reappears when you press af-
ter the memory capacity display appears, or automati-
cally after about 20 seconds if you do not press a
button.
Notes:
• After the first four beeps during an audible alert,
the alert tone’s volume increases slightly.
• The letter (A, b, C, or D) that appears in the
upper-left corner of the display when the pager
first displays a message is part of a paging-
address feature not supported by your carrier.
• If a message is longer than 12 digits (if
appears), the rest of that message appears
(before the next message) when you press .
• If you display a message which has been stored
in memory for over 24 hours, the time stamp
appears as --:--.

• If you display a message that has been protected
for 24 hours or more, the number of protection
days remaining (--6, for example) appears (see
“Protecting/Unprotecting Messages” on Page
24).
• If no messages are stored in memory, 0(zero)
appears when you press at the standby dis-
play.
Duplicate Messages
If your pager receives a message that is the same as
one already stored in memory (read or unread),
appears when the pager displays the duplicate mes-
sage.
After you read a duplicate message, the pager saves
all duplicate messages in one record, showing the
most recent time it was received.
