DESCRIPTION
Control panel BMA-PLUS is designed for adjusting the AC voltage from electric generator (230V) for
fishing purposes. AC from electricgeneratoris adjustedusing thephase-controlledone-wayrectifier,which
is handled using the power potentiometer. Specific shape DC pulses temporarilystupefyfish butdon’t hurt
them. On the control panel, there is MAIN SWITCH (0,1), POWER SCALE SWITCH (0,1), potentiometer
knob for continuous power adjustment and fuse case with T2.5A fuse. Ammeter shows mean values of
output current (peak value is higher) and those values are of informative character for theoperator andfor
the instrument operation. Output current value directly corresponds to fishing environment properties
(water conductivity, etc.). Voltmeter shows mean values of output voltage. On the side ofthecontrolpanel,
there are sockets for connecting the anode (+ sign) and cathode (- sign).
Basic instruments for electrofishing are: fishing handle with extension and electriclanding net(anode),
cable and cable drum, drum support, cathode, grounding pin and dielectric gloves.
Control panel BMA-PLUS is suitable for waters of water conductivity 150-1500µS.
The product complies with the technical requirements on productsas pertheAct No. 22/1997 Coll.,
Government Regulation No. 17/2003 Coll., and Government Regulation No. 616/2006 Coll. and
a Declaration of Conformity was issued for the product.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Important:
While electro fishing, it is compulsory for operators of this instrument to have a document (certificate)
authorising the operator to use electric device specified by the law instruction §3 a 4 of Gov. Decree No.
50/1978 Coll.). The subject that owns this device (e.g. Local Department of Czech Fishing
Association, Moravia Fishing Society, etc.) first needstobegrantedan exemption from theFishing
law (Act No. 99/2004, §13 for electro fishing).
The control panel is designed only for operating together with the electrofisher. It is notallowedto
connect it to the electric grid. If done so, there is a threat of electric current injury (ČSN 33 2000-4-
41).
A: FISHING IN RUNNING WATER - gear is located on the shore
1. Connect the control panel BMA-PLUS with the electric generator by putting cable’s plug into a socket of
electric generator output.
2. Complete the fishing equipment. Connect anode (cable and cable drum, fishing handle, extension,
electric landing net) to the red-labelled + socket. Connect cathode (1.5 –2 m long flat copper net) to the -
socket.
3. Start the electric generator according to its own manual, switch on the breaker on the generator output
(next to sockets).
4. Switch on the main switch of control panel BMA-PLUS.
5. Change the power scale (0-small streams, 1-bigger streams, 2-rivers
1
) accordingtofishingconditions.
6. Regulate the power scale using the potentiometer according to fishing conditions. Always start at the
lowest power level.
7. Test the device function by putting both electrodes into the water (at least 3m from each other, mutual
contact is prohibited) and press the fishing handle button. From the movement of ammeter indicator, it is
possible to learn whether the gear is working.
Generally said, in the low conductivity water the ampere meter shows lower current and vice versa.
8. When fishing in running water, always move upstream only.
9. After finishing the fishing, switch off the main switch of the control panel BMA-PLUS first, then turn off
the generator. Always roll-up the cable only when the gear is not working.
B: FISHING IN STANDING WATER - gear is located on the boat
Use the above mentioned points 1-8 of fishing in running water. The cable and cable drum are replaced
with a short cable (5m) with PK27 plug. The cable can be delivered with the equipment. When fishing in
higher conductivity waters, it is necessary to replace the default cathode (1.5 m long copper net) with
shorter one (0.7 m long copper net).
9.
2
Fishing boat should not be made of metal but of non-conductive material such as wood or laminate. It
should also be sufficient in stability and capacity.
10. Cathode always has to be positioned in order to avoid the contact of the operator with its active part
(flat copper net). In the case of motor boat, winding of the cathode onto the propeller must be avoided. It is
recommended to fasten the active part of cathode onto the polystyrene; this way the cathode flows on the
water and cannot get stuck.
11. The fisher with anode (electric landing net) is always on the stem of the boat and should have a helper
who can collect fish using a landing net: its handle must be from a non-conductive material.
12. When fishing in standing water the gear is effective to the water depth of about 1.5-2m. It is necessary
to realize that it is not a depth gear but equipment designed especially for running water.
For all ways of fishing there is always one common rule: set the power supply high enough for fishing
effects to be sufficient and low enough for fish not to be stunned for too long. When setting too high power
supply you can restrain the fish galvanotaxis (an ability of anode to attract fish) and the fish will remain
stunned at the bed.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure the safety when using the electrofishing gear, it is necessary to follow instructions given in the
generator manual and also following instructions:
1. The person managing the fishing process has to be familiar with operation of the electrofishing gear,
with the fishing procedure and with safety rules (ON 341740 and ON 341741). The instrument can’t be
operated by children, only by adult persons.
2. The fishing person and also co-operating persons in the water must wear rubber gloves and rubber
fishing boots.
3. When it is raining, the electrofishing is p r o h i b i t e d!
4. Gear must be properly grounded before its function is started.
5. All persons participating in fishing have to be instructed in main principles of work safety during
electrofishing.
6. During the whole time of fishing there must be a well-instructed person who manages the electrofishing
gear according to the instructions and who makes sure nobody enters the dangerous area, especially in
the cathode vicinity.
7. Input cable must not be firmly twisted around a part of someone’s body (wrist, shoulders, etc.), cable
and cable drum is prohibited from being carried around when fishing.
8. The sampled fish must not be hand-collected from the electric landing-net.
9. In case of any failure, defect or incorrect operation, the gear has to be plugged out from the current input
and it can’t be utilized anymore until the gear safety is confirmed by the producer.
10. Onlyone control panel can be used together with the generator. If two control panels were used, there
is a risk of failure.

BLOCK DIAGRAM
Voltage 230V, 50 Hzfrom the generator is lead through the breaker (partof the generator) tothehalf-wave
rectifier with voltage doubling. Doubled DC voltage is used to power the power level. The 230V, 50 Hz
voltage is also connected with the 10V stabilizer using the capacitor. Stabilized 10V DC voltagepowers all
control circuits including the tester.
After the fishing handle switch is turned on, the tester analyses whether electrodes aresubmerged in water
and produces a signal initiating the power level start up. DC pulse appears on output terminals and a
current goes through the resistor (fishing environment). At the point of zero current, the power level is
turned off. If the fishing handle switch remains turned on, the process repeats cyclically.
