Youmayfind thatthetidal offsetisvery differentonthe newbearing.
Therefore,it isadvisableto checkthe crosstrackerror(XTE)after a
coupleofminutes. Ifthe cross trackerror increases, makea course
adjustment(e.g.,10°) inthe direction ofthe arrow.Thishelps to
speeduptrack control correctionfor the newtidalvector.
Response
Therearethree responselevels.
Level1isthe defaultand suitablefor mostsituations. Thissetting
provides the best compromise between course-keeping accuracy and
power consumption.
Level2ensures tightercourse-keepingat theexpenseof increased
powerconsumptionand wearandtear duetoincreased pilotactivity.
Itis advisabletouse theminimum responsenecessarytoachievethe
desired course keeping accuracy.
Onlargervessels,level3 canimproveslow speedsteeringwhere
naturalyawdamping of thevessel is reduced.
Note: Level 3 is not recommended for use at planing speeds, or in rough
seas if a rate gyro transducer is not fitted.
