The Redwood Universal Gateway turns on and o any light fixture type (e.g.
fluorescent, CFL, HID, LED, etc.). Installed on or next to each fixture, the Gateway
provides output signals to control one or two external dry contact relays. It
receives low-voltage power from, and communicates with, the Redwood Engine
via low-voltage cable. The Gateway does not require a Redwood Ready fixture
and will work with any fixture. It connects to a Redwood Sensor that transmits
data back to the Redwood Engine.

Redwood Universal Gateway Installation Instructions
• Confirm the correct type of Gateway is being installed
with a Dry Contact Relay. See diagrams below and
confirm correct Gateway is being used for fixture
installation.
• Recommend using an RIB Dry Contact Relay or
equivalent, for example, an RIB 21CDC.
• Please be certain that the fixture you are controlling
can accommodate the type of control you are using;
magnetic metal halide fixtures for instance have
extended hot restart time which could be problematic
in critical areas where the light might not reignite for
an extended period. Instant start ballasts may not be
suitable for frequent switching.
• DoNOTplacetheGatewayinalocationwhereitwill
get hotter than 50°C.
• Check that you used the Redwood supplied RJ25 cable
that came with the Sensor for connecting the Sensor to
the Gateway.
• When the product is installed in air-handling spaces,
such as above some suspended ceilings, the cabling
employedshouldbesuitableunderNEC(2008)Article
800.154 and marked accordingly for use in plenums and
air-handling spaces with regard to smoke propagation,
such as CMP. The products and wiring means should
be installed in accordance with all applicable local
regulations and practices.
• The Redwood Gateways have been tested by UL
to UL2043 which ensures low smoke-emitting
characteristics and suitable fire resistance for equipment
that may be installed in environmental air handling
spaces,asdescribedinArticle300.22(c)oftheNEC
(2008).
Step 2: Connect the Dry Contact Relay to the Universal Gateway using the provided Redwood Universal Gateway
Wiring Harness.
Step 3: Connect the Universal Gateway to the Sensor with the RJ25 connector.
Step 4: The Gateway should be securely mounted to part of the building structure that does not exceed the mechanical
specicationsfortheGateway.NotethattheGatewaymustbewithin6feetoftheSensorandlightxture.
