CHAIN USE AND MAINTENANCE
CLEANING
After off-road use, the chain must
be
cleaned before lubrication.
If
the dirt built
up
is
heavy, spray the chain with a pressure washer first, keeping
it at a minimum 'distance
of
30
inches (750 mrn) fr6m the chain, then dry it
immediately with compressed air.
If the accumulation of dirt
is
not heavy, the chain can .be cleaned using kerose-
ne,
and dried immediately after with a jet
of
compressed air.
Warning! Avoid the use of steam, gasoline or solvents.Avoid the use of wire or
stiff bristle brushes that could damage the rubber Z-Rings. Compressed air
should
be
kept
at
24 inches (600
mm)
distance
minimum. After cleaning,jmmediately lubricate
the chain as explained
in
the next section.
LUBRICATION
Lubrication must be done always after cleaning
the chain, and as a general rule at least every
250 miles (400
Km)
, or more frequently.
Lubricate the chain using SAE 80-90
oil
or
motorcycle chain specific lubricants labelled
safe for O-Rings.
Spray the lubricant inside the chain between F
ig
. 1
the inner
and
the outer plates
on
the z-rings.
Lubricate the chain rollers
as
well (see figure
1).
After lubrication, please wait 10-15 minutes
to
allow solvents
in
the lubricant
to
evaporate
before using the
ATV
or motorcycle. Any
excess lubricant should
be
wiped away with a
clean
rag

CHAIN REPLACEMENT CRITERIA

particular attention to the connecting link. Fig. 2
Checking and adjustment
of
the chain tension
(see figure
2)
should
be
done every time the
ATV
or motorcycle has been ridden off-road
and
as a general
rule
. every 250 miles (400 Ilt63JO
Km)
.
If
excessive chain slack
is
found
and
it
cannot
be
adjusted, the chain must
be
repla-
ced.
When finding the above mentioned conditions,
excessive elongation or abnormal noise
in
use,
r~place
the chain
and
sprockets
at
the same
time.
INSTALLATION OF A NEW CHAIN
Disassemble the old chain at its connecting
link.
In
case
of
an endless chain, use Regina
chain cutter type 7, part # 805330 (see figure
3)
or type 1, part # 805000 (see figure
4)
.
Warning! While using the type 1 chain breaker
to
disassemble a chain with o-rings, the formed
wire shim "E" , included
in
connecting link pac-
kage, must be placed between the inner
and
outer plates that will
be
disassembled. This
protects the rings from damage.
In
the case
of
replacement
of
a chain with a spring clip con-
necting link, remove the spring clip first, then
the same cutters can
be
used
to
disassemble
the chain. F

CHAIN USE AND MAINTENANCE
Using the
old
connecting link fork, connect tem-
porarily one end of the .old chain with one end
of the new chain. Pull the free
end
of
the worn
chain until the new chain rides around the front
sprocket
and
continue until the
end
of the new
chain is close to the rear sprocket (see figure
5)
. Remove the old connecting link fork, posi-
tion both ends of the new chain
on
the rear
sprocket next
to
each other
on
two consecutive
teeth.
Take
out the new connecting link from the pla-
stic bag, holding
it
by
the plate. Fig. 5
Warning! Absolutely avoid wiping away the
lubricant from the pin surfaces.

Place two Z-Rings
on
the connecting link fork.
Warning! The Z-Rings must
be
placed
in
the
proper orientation (see figure

Insert the connecting link fork from the back of
the chain, avoid contacting the pins. Place the
other two Z-Rings on the pins
in
the proper
orientation, until they rest over the extended
ends of each bushing. Then install the connec-
ting plate and the spring clip. Fig. 6

BATTERY ACID or ANTI-FREEZE
Replace the whole chain if battery acid gets
on
it
, clean the chain when contac-

anti-freeze.
CAUTION
A!ways wear safety glasses and gloves when installing the chain. Pay attention
while working with the chain
and
sprockets
to
prevent injury
to
your hands.
