3.5 Processor Module Diagnostics
This s ction d scrib s th Proc ssor modul pow rĆup and runĆtim
diagnostics.
3.5.1 PowerĆUp Diagnostics
Wh n you first turn on pow r to th Proc ssor modul or cycl
pow r, it will run diagnostics on th Eprom and RAM m mory,
m mory manag m nt unit, watchdog tim r, parity, int rrupts, and
SIO.
If mor than on Proc ssor is locat d in th rack, th l ftmost
Proc ssor will also run diagnostics on th Common M mory modul .
Whil running diagnostics, which tak approximat ly 5-15 s conds,
th Proc ssor modul s in th rack will display th cod dd". Wh n a
modul has compl t d its diagnostics, th LED on th fac plat
lab l d OK" will b turn d on.
Should a malfunction b d t ct d, all Proc ssors in th rack will b
shut down and th status cod indicating which diagnostic fail d will
r main on th LED display of th Proc ssor at fault. S App ndix D
for a list of pow rĆup diagnostic rror cod s.
Aft r diagnostics ar compl t , th Proc ssor b gins p riodically
r s tting its watchdog to indicat that it is functioning corr ctly. In a
multipl Proc ssor configuration, all of th Proc ssors in th rack will
b gin r s tting th syst m watchdog locat d on th Common
M mory modul in addition to r s tting th ir own watchdogs. Th
Proc ssor modul will r s t its own watchdog r gardl ss of wh th r
th op rating syst m is load d or not.
Should any watchdog b allow d to xpir at any tim aft r
pow rĆup diagnostics ar compl t , all Proc ssors in th rack will b
shut down. If application tasks ar curr ntly running in th rack, th y
will b stopp d. Th gr n LED lab l d OK" on th fac plat of th
modul at fault will b turn d off. This Proc ssor will ass rt a signal
on th backplan to r s t (s t 0, FALSE, or OFF) all local and r mot
I/O modul s.
3.5.2 RunĆTime Diagnostics
During runĆtim , i. ., whil x cuting application tasks, th Proc ssor
continuously p rforms r alĆtim ch cking of byt parity on th RAM.
Th m mory manag m nt unit (MMU) ch cks for rrors such as
writing to locations that ar r adĆonly. Should any malfunction b
d t ct d, an rror cod will b display d on th LEDs and th
Proc ssors in th rack will b ith r stopp d or compl t ly shut
down, d p nding upon th s v rity of th rror. S App ndix E for
a list of runĆtim rror cod s.
S rious hardwar malfunctions, how v r, can r sult in application
tasks that ar curr ntly running b ing stopp d, th OK" indicator
b ing turn d off, and th Proc ssor b ing shut down. Onc a
Proc ssor modul has shut down, it will not x cut any instructions
or r spond to commands from th p rsonal comput r until it is r s t
by cycling pow r.
