Unpacking and Setting up the
Rex OS-1 Operating Stand
Your Rex OS-1 operating stand is packaged completely assembled and tested at our plant to
ensure a quality product, however there are some basic steps that must be performed before
using your OS-1 for the first time.
1. Unpack the OS-1. Take special care to support the stand from the bottom when
unpacking, and whenever moving the stand. Be sure to also unpack the specimen
holder and weights, which are wrapped separately.
2. After the stand and the specimen holder are unpacked; they can be cleaned with
alcohol. The stand should then be placed on a clean, flat surface that will be free
from vibrations.
3. Loosen the column lock knob and raise the arm assembly to near the top of the
column, then retighten the knob.
4. Unwrap the specimen holder and set it in the hole in the base of the stand.
5. Using the allen wrench, loosen the two screws on the gauge clamp, and carefully
place the gauge in the clamp. It is recommended that the clamp be secured on the
large diameter section of your Rex durometer called the connector. To prevent
damage to the gauge, take care not to over-tighten the screws- only use enough
force to secure the gauge.
Testing Procedure
The Rex OS-1 has a floating weight shaft assembly that allows the user to test in various
durometer scales. With no additional weight, the stand can also be used to test in the OO and
OOO scales. For testing in the A, B, and O scales place only the thin weight onto the weight
shaft. For testing in the D, C, and DO scales, place both the thick and the thin weights on to
the weight shaft.
IMPORTANT:
REMOVE BOTH WEIGHTS BEFORE ADJUSTING TRAVEL
1. To set the travel, first loosen the column lock knob and raise the arm assembly high
enough so that a specimen can be placed under the indentor of the gauge, onto the
specimen holder. Then lower the arm assembly until the foot of the gauge is
approximately 1/4” above the specimen. At this point, re-tighten the column lock
knob.
2. To perform a test, fully depress the lever. The foot of the gauge should be in full
contact with the specimen and the weight shaft assembly should have moved
upward in the arm assembly. If the travel has been properly set, it will not be
possible to obtain different readings by pressing harder on the lever.
Note: Rex Gauge Durometer Models 1500, H-1000, and 2100 are not recommended for
use with operating stands.
Weight Combinations
For Testing Durometer Types OO and OOO remove both weights
