SAFETY
WARNING
!
When working with electrical or
electronic controls, make sure
that the power source has been
locked out and tagged according
to SHA regulations or your
country’s local standards and
approved local electrical codes.
L CK UT / TAG UT PR CEDURES
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that, in addition to posting safety
warnings and barricading the work area, the power supply has been locked in the OFF position or
disconnected. It is mandatory that an approved lockout device is utilized. An example of a lockout device is
illustrated in Figure 1. The proper lockout procedure requires that the person responsible for the repairs is
the only person who has the ability to remove the lockout device.
In addition to the lockout device, it is also a requirement to tag the power control in a manner that will
clearly note that repairs are under way and state who is responsible for the lockout condition. Tagout
devices have to be constructed and printed so that exposure to weather conditions or wet and damp
locations will not cause the tag to deteriorate or become unreadable.
RITE-HITE®Corporation does not recommend any particular lockout device, but recommends the utilization
of a device that meets OSHA standards (refer to OSHA regulation 1910.147). RITE-HITE®Corporation also
recommends the review and implementation of an entire safety program for the Control of Hazardous
Energy ( ockout/Tagout). These regulations are available through OSHA publication 3120.

NOTICE
To be properly positioned, the straps must be
fully horizontal with all sla k removed. The
lo k pin must be fully inserted through the
tensioner into the tensioner bra ket, and there
must be a minimum of 1-1/2 full rotations of
strap wrapped around the tensioner. If any
one of the above onditions is not met, you
must retension the System Barrier.
NOTICE
The barrier straps should be inspe ted on a
regular basis. They should be repla ed when
there are signs of wear. Stret hing, snags,
fraying and pun tures are all indi ations that
the straps should be repla ed.
NOTICE
SHORTENING OF STRAPS. If you need to
shorten the strap length, ut the strap using a
sharp s issors and melt the end to prevent
fraying.
NOTICE
The storage system is not intended to be
used when tensioning the straps. This will
make the tensioning of the straps more
diffi ult. Please refer to the operational video.

P ST ASSEMBLY
The posts can be assembled as necessary to
provide support for the straps in one or multiple
directions. Use the ½" x 6-1/2" bolts and lock nuts
provided to bolt the posts together as necessary for
your application. See Figures 3-6 for typical post
configurations. The holes in the post are offset to
allow the hardware to be through bolted. Be sure to
align the posts so the sides being bolted together
have holes at the same height. Do not fully tighten
the hardware until it is completely assembled.
Notice that the same bolts used to hold the posts
together may be used to hold on the tensioner
assembly brackets or the storage system brackets.
TENSI NER BRACKET
INSTALLATI N
Use the ½" x 6.5" bolts and lock nuts provided to
fasten the U-shaped tensioner bracket to the post.
Note that you may be using the same hardware that
is being used to attach the reinforcement post cross
members. The holes on the tensioner bracket are
offset to allow the strap to be at the same height off
of the floor on different sides of the post. Position
the bracket in the proper direction before fastening
to the post.

ST RAGE SYSTEM INSTALLATI N
The storage system is used to neatly organize
and store the straps when the system is not in
use. The storage system is intended to be
installed on the non-traffic side of the post to
keep the straps out of the way and to protect
the storage device from incidental contact.
Use the ½" x 6.5" bolts and lock nuts provided
to attach this system to the face of the post
adjacent to the tensioner brackets. Note that the
holes in the brackets are offset to allow these
brackets to align with the tensioner brackets.
Insert the storage rod down through the storage
brackets. Using the #10 x 2.25" bolts and nuts
provided, attach the pressure straps to the
storage rod. Do not tighten hardware at this
time. One pressure strap should get attached
for each strap that will be rolled up.
LATCH BRACKET INSTALLATI N
Position the latch bracket on the post so that
the top of the latch bracket is aligned with the
top of the post. Fasten the bracket to the post
with the (4) ½" x 6.5" bolts, washers, and lock
nuts that are provided.
Before the fasteners are tightened, install the
post cap on the post. If the post cap is not
installed before the latch plate is tightened, the
latch plate will interfere with the post cap
installation.
P ST P SITI NING
Position the posts as necessary to protect the
desired areas. Check to make sure you have
allowed for the necessary strap deflection if
your system is intended to stop heavy traffic.

Use a hammer drill and ¾" concrete drill bit to
drill holes in the concrete floor. Use the ¾" x 5-
1/4" concrete anchors that are provided to
anchor the posts to the concrete floor. Insure
the anchors are seated properly with an impact
wrench.
INSTALLATI N F THE P ST CAPS
Use a rubber hammer to securely tap the caps
onto the posts. The cap that is on the post with
the latch bracket will need to fit between the
latch bracket and the post to allow the cap to
be installed completely. See the previous
photo of the latch plate and the post cap.

Remove the latch bar with the straps attached
from the latch bracket and lay it on the floor.
Go to the opposite side of the opening and turn
the crank mechanism on the storage rod to roll
up the straps around the rod. Continue to roll
up the straps until the straps are completely
stored. If the straps do not store evenly, it may
be necessary to unroll the straps and pull one
of the straps further into the storage rod
pressure strap to get the straps to store evenly
on the roll.
Double Strap Restraining Kit
w/o Storage System
These units will install the same as above
except that excess material will hang loose
beyond the tensioner assembly. There will be
no final sizing required. If there is excess
strap, trim it with a sharp scissors and melt the
end of the strap to prevent fraying.
