1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
The F2400 Sand Filter is designed and manufactured to achieve the highest standards of
quality and finish. This media filter uses gravel (or sand) as a bed that captures the
suspended matter in the water that flows through it. Media filters are particularly effective
for filtering algae, organic matter and recycled water.
Rivulis F2400 nozzle media filters uses a unique design of a double bottom chamber,
divided by a welded reinforced steel plate, which is suitable in particular for back-flushing.
The option of arm collectors is also available
For best results, the filter must be installed, operated and maintained according to the
following instructions. Special attention must be given to proper back flushing at the
specified periodic intervals, chlorination at the beginning and at the end of the season and
an appropriate maintenance.

If installing more than 1 filter (in array), make sure to leave enough space for later
maintenance.
NOTE: If the distributor does not supply the media, refer to “recommended media” for
information.
The water used for the hydraulic control of valves must be filtered and supplied from the

inlet manifold of the array, passing through a security filter before going into the valve’s
control chamber (Img. 1.)
Hydraulic control tubes should be as short as possible.
Using the 8mm (DN) pipe supplied, make the following connections:
Connect command pipes between solenoids and filter valves according to the assembly
diagram. (Img. 3)
The DP sensor is connected by 2 command tubes: one which comes from the filters inlet
(High pressure) will be connected to the red point, and one that comes from the outlet
(Lower pressure) will go to the black point. (Img. 4)
In an automatic filtering back flushing array, the controller should be linked according to the
scheme (whenever needed, the controller producer’s explanation pages - are available for
consultation in the “annexes”)
Check that the DP sensor is properly connected to the controller in the chip “DP Sensor”
with pin ports (Rd, Gr, Bl, Wt)
Take special care that the flow direction is correct
Having installed the array general complex, make sure that all service openings,
connections, valves and accessories are closed tightly.
In case of a DC controller, install the batteries.
Connect the filtration array inlet to the upstream water supply pipe.
Connect the filtration array outlet to the downstream water pipe.
Connect the system's backwash manifold drainage to the main drain; the main drain should
be according to the recommendation below.
Note: The length and size of the back-flush manifold drain tubing, has a significant
influence on the array’s proper operation.
Drain and vent pipes (solenoids and air valves) should be routed so that the drain will be
connected to the main drainage pipe and water will not spill on the system components.
Carefully open the inlet valve, fill up the array with water and check for leakage. Be careful
not to over-pressurize the system.

3. FILLING THE MEDIA LAYERS
Prior to media filling verify that all conical diffusers set on the distribution plate are installed
and good state. (Do not use filter with missing or damaged diffusers!!!)
The filtration media will be filled only after leakage checking.
Close array’s inlet valve.
Fill the gravel media through the top port of the filter, according to recommended weights (see
Table 1).
NOTE: The conical diffusers set on the double bottom must be totally covered by the
gravel media.
After having filled in the media layer, close the filling port tightly.
NOTE: In order to receive efficient filtering results, (in case the media layer is not supplied by
Rivulis) care should be taken to verify that the media layer particles should have sharp edges,
its minimal grain size –0.6 mm; maximal unity coefficient - 1.5.
Recommended media layer: crushed basalt 1-2 mm, or crushed granite 1-2 mm

4. THE BACKWASH PROCESS
The backwash process is performed for each filter separately; one after the other
consecutively until each filter has been backwashed; this is called a Backwash Cycle. (In
arrays containing more than 10 filters the backwash is performed for two filters
simultaneously; one in every branch)
The backwash of a media filter is carried out by passing clean water (filtered by the other filter
units) in reverse flow, in an upward direction of the filter being backwashed. (see Images 5
and 7)
The reversal of water flow through the filter fluidizes the media, causing a turbulent expansion
of the media, which flushes out the entrapped debris through the filter's flushing valve and into
the Backwash Manifold. The flow limiting valve on the backwash manifold is used to regulate
the flushing to the required backwash flow rate.

A backwash cycle will be performed according to one of the following situations (whichever
comes first):
1. Initiated by the timer function of the controller. The operator programs the controller to set
the time between one backwash to the next one (see Annex: “Programming the Controller")
2. Initiated by the pressure differential between inlet manifold and outlet manifold of the
system. The typical setting is 0.5bar (7.5 psi).
3. Manually –by pressing push button on the controller display
4.1. The Initial Backwash
The initial backwash should be executed after filling the tanks with media, linking the controller
and connecting the array to its water source.
The objective of the initial backwash cycle is to wash out the dust, fine dirt from the media
layer, and other tiny particles, as well as verifying the whole array’s appropriate operation and
functioning.
This process should be repeated a few times until clear water comes out of the backwash
outlet.
4.1.1. Performing the Initial Backwash Automatically
1.Turn on the controller.
2. Before opening the water entry valve to the filtering array, verify that the main valve is
closed.
3.Open the inlet valve to the filter array.
4.Press the manual start button on the controller, the system will start the automatic
backwash process.
Although the backwash function will be managed by the controller during normal operation, it
is usually recommended to perform a manual initial backwash (indications given below), as
the duration of each filter’s backwash will be determined by observing the backwash water as
explained before.
NOTE: It is important to ensure that media is not lost during backwash process; look at the
drain pipe of the backwash outlet to verify that media is not lost during backwash).
4.1.2. Performing the Initial Backwash Manually
1. Before opening the water entry valve of the array, verify that the exit valve is
close.
2. Turn the three way valve to open position of the array’s first filter (see image
6).The filter should be now flushing.

3. After two minutes time, return the three way valve to the previous position
(automatic).
4. Repeat the same operation in the second filter, later in the third one, until every
filter in the array has been through a back-flush cycle.

In order to complete the initial back-flush, a total of three back-flush cycles should
be performed on each of the array’s units. If there’s not clear information regarding
the water’s quality, an additional back-flush cycle should be done.
After completing the first backflush process, turn the controller to AUTOMATIC
operation and adjust the relevant parameters as required. Open the outlet valve
(or main valve).
Working Conditions
Maximum working pressure should not exceed 8 bar (145 psi)
Head-loss should not exceed 0.5 bar (7.5 psi).
Normal working conditions are with a head-loss lower than 0.3 bar (4.35 psi) between the array’s
inlet and outlet, when the array filters are clean after having been backwashed.
An inlet pressure minimum of 2 bar (29 psi) not to exceed 8 bar (120 psi)
If head loss exceeds 0.3 bar (4.5 psi) –the filter is either partially clogged or operating under
an excessive flow rate.
A filtration flow-rate appropriate to the designed system flow-rate.
Any other situation creates incorrect working conditions.

5. OPERATING THE FILTRATION ARRAY
After configuring the controller, the filters will be backwashed following the time and DP set.
When the array starts operating, water filtrated accordingly will be running through the
irrigation network.
The controller will send the backwash-cycle command when: the Pressure Differential sensor
detects that the head-loss reading surpass the set value, or the backwash cycle countdown
reaches zero (whichever situation takes place first).
Throughout a backwash cycle, while the array’s filters are being backwashed one after the
other, there is no interruption in the irrigation process; clean water continues to flow to the
field.
Typically, backwash time for each filter takes about 60 seconds. The intervals between
backwash cycles may extend up to 3 hours.
If the water is dirtier than average, increase the backwash time to each filter and/or decrease
the intervals time between the backwash cycles. (see Annex: “Programming the Controller")
Note: as the water quality changes during the season, the backwash time and the intervals
time between the backwash cycles, should be adjusted accordingly by reprogramming the
controller.
NOTE:
Perform a manual back-flush on the filter at the beginning and at the end of irrigation.
Back flush filter when head loss increases by 0.3 - 0.5 bar (4.5 –7.5 psi) above head loss of
clean filter, or every 3 hours, whichever comes first.
Verify the filter head loss by checking the pressure readings at the inlet and outlet of the
media array.
It is recommended to use an irrigation controller.
For recommended flow rates for filtering and back flushing, see Table 1.
If the filter’s gravel is contaminated by organic particles, chlorination should be performed.
Chlorinate the filter at the beginning and at the end of the irrigation season.(see clause
“Chlorination”)

6. PERIODIC CLEANING
Close valves at the inlet and outlet of filters.
Release pressure within the filter and open the top filling port.
Inspect media level and its cleanliness.
If the media is not effective anymore (long usage, or tough caking), replace the media, see
“replacing the filter’s media”.
Check the valves. Check the Flow Limiting Valve or throttling valve.
7. MAINTENANCE
Perform monthly periodic checks.
Once a week perform a manual back flush, make sure that the differential pressure is below
0.25 bar (4 psi), after the back flush.
Once a year spread a layer of grease on the top cover's handle threads.
Special coating protects all Rivulis products; any damage to the protective
coating of the equipment must be repaired without delay. Prior to the
application of the protective paint, clean thoroughly the damaged areas with a
wire brush.
Replace batteries in the controller, if applicable, with fresh ones at the
beginning of the irrigation season.
Before installing back bolts, spread bolts threads with thin layer of grease.
The array should be disinfected by chlorination at the beginning and end of each irrigation
season. Chlorination Process:
1. Close the array’s inlet and outlet valves.
2. Empty the filters half full of water. If the array is completely dry, first fill the filters half full of
water, and then add the liquid Sodium Hypo-chlorite (NaOCl) to each filter, according to the
table below.
3. Add water to each filter to 10 centimeters (4") above the media surface layer and close the
upper inlets. Each filter will contain a concentration of 80 -100 ppm of liquid Sodium Hypo-
chlorite.
4. Wait for 30 minutes (no water flowing), then perform two backwash cycles to each of the
array’s filters – without opening the outlet valve.

LIMITED WARRANTY PERFORMANCE AND COVERAGE
The Rivulis products listed below (“Products”) are intended and limited to agricultural, horticultural irrigation and mining. Rivulis
warrants to its customers that its Products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the warranty period of each
Product Category stated below from the date of shipment from Rivulis. Rivulis will, at its sole option, repair or replace part or all of a
defective Product, or refund part or the entire original purchase price under the terms and conditions of this warranty. Any technical
assistance furnished by Rivulis with respect to Products covered by this warranty shall be furnished without charge and will be given
and accepted at the customer’s sole risk. Non-defective replacement parts required to perform or complete warranty repairs will not
be covered under the terms of this warranty. Claims must be made within fifteen (15) calendar days of the time the defect become
apparent by contacting an Authorized Rivulis Dealer or notifying in writing Rivulis Attention: Warranty Service,” Kibbutz Gvat 3657900
Israel” with the claim, and at Rivulis option, either return the alleged defective Product to Rivulis, or grant access to Rivulis or a
Rivulis factory representative, as the case may be, to inspect the Product on site. Correspondence must be accompanied by original
customer purchase receipt and delivery receipt. Rivulis must preauthorize the return of all defective Products. All substantiated
warranty claims are limited to the replacement of the defective product not including any removal and/or installation or associated
costs for removal and/or installation. This warranty applies only to products branded and sold under the Rivulis name. Freight Carrier
assumes the responsibility of safe delivery and all claims for such damages must be filed with the freight carrier directly.
WARRANTY COVERAGE
Metal Filters, Plastic Filters, Media Filters, Automatic screen filter, Strainers, Sand Separators, Fertilization Tanks –each unit is
warranted to be free of defects in design, materials and workmanship for a period of 2 Years after delivery
If the warranty period is longer than twelve months, and Products are replaced under the warranty after the first year, Buyer will pay a
prorated percentage of their cost, equal to the ratio between the period that has passed prior to replacement and the full warranty
period.
EXCEPTIONS TO WARRANTY
The following items are specifically excluded from any warranty coverage:
1. Installation or use of Products beyond design specification including, but not limited to, use in a non-agricultural, non-mining or
non-horticultural irrigation application, use in conjunction with any other Product not manufactured or supplied by Rivulis, or
Product that is otherwise improperly installed;
2. Product not purchased from Rivulis or an Authorized Rivulis Dealer;
3. Products subjected to any alterations, modifications, or repairs that are attempted by anyone other than an authorized Rivulis
employee, Dealer or representative;
4. Damages resulting from insects, rodents or other animals; incorrect pressurization; improper filtration of water; plugging; mechanical
damages; root intrusion; burn holes from using products under clear plastic mulch; incorrect power (current, voltage and/or
frequency) or use with improper or faulty electronic components;
5. Any labor on installation or removal of any Product, including: any removal for purposes of inspection or determination of whether any
defects exist, for any costs incurred for labor or services in connection with the inspection or removal of any Product, and/or for
installation of a replacement Product;
6. Product that has been subjected to improper operation, abuse, misuse, mishandling, accident, neglect, or failure to follow the
manufacturer’s instructions;
7. Damage caused by normal wear;
8. Damage or loss as a result of, or during, shipping; and
9. Acts of nature, accidents, or other causes beyond the control of Rivulis.

OF RIVULIS FOR ITS PRODUCTS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND ARE IN LIEU OF ANY OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED
OR IMPLIED, ORAL OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. NO AGENT, REPRESENTATIVE, DEALER, DISTRIBUTOR, SERVICE COMPANY,
OR OTHER PARTY IS AUTHORIZED TO CHANGE, MODIFY, OR EXTEND THE TERMS OF THIS WARRANTY OR TO
MAKE ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY NOT CONTAINED HEREIN. RIVULIS , ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS,
