GeneralServicing Precautions.
aAlways unplug the unit’sACpowercordfromthe ACpowersource
before.
(1)Removing orreinstalling anycomponent, circuitboard,module,orany
otherunitassembly.
(2)Disconnecting orreconnecting anyunitelectricalplug orotherelectrical
connection.
(3)Connecting atestsubstituteinparallelwithan electrolyticcapacitorin
the unit.

a.Wrong partsubstitution orincorrectpolarityinstallation ofelectrolytic
capacitorsmayresultinan explostion hazard
b.Donotdefeatanyplug/socketB+voltage interlocks withwhichthe
unitcovered bythisservicemanualmightbe equipped

d.Alwaysconnectatestunitinstrument’sground lead tothe unit’schassis/

IMPORTANTSERVICESAFETYINFORMATION
1.SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
Beforereturning aunittothe customer,always makeasafetycheck of
the entireunit, including,butnotlimited tothe following items.
a.Besurethatno built-inprotectivedevicesaredefectiveand/orhave
been defeated during servicing.
(1)Protectiveshieldsareprovided toprotectboththe technician and
the customer.Correctlyreplaceall missing protectiveshields
including and removed forservicing convenience.
(2)When reinstalling the chassisand/orotherassembliesinthe
cabinet, be suretoputback inplaceall protectivedevices,
including,butnotlimited to,nonmetalliccontrolknobsinsulating
fishpapers,adjustmentand compartmentcovers/shieldsand
isolation resistor/capacitornetworks.Donotoperatethisunitor
permitittobe operated withoutall protectivedevicescorrectly
installed and functioning.
b.Besurethatthereareno cabinetopeningsthrough whichan adultor
childmightbe abletoinserttheirfingersand contactahazardous
voltage.Suchopeningsinclude,butarenotlimited to,excessively
wide cabinetventilation slots,and an improperlyfitted and/orincorrectly
secured cabinetback cover.
c.Leakage CurrentHotCheck -Withthe unitcompletelyreassembled,
plugthe ACline corddirectlyintoa230VACoutlet.(Donotusean
isolation transformerduring thistest.)Usealeakage currenttesteror
ametering systemthatcomplieswithAmerican NationalStandards
Institute(ANSI)C101.1“Leakage CurrentforAppliances”a nd
UnderwritersLaboratories(UL)1410,(50.7).Withthe unitACswitch
firstinthe ONposition and then inthe OFF position,measurefroma
knownearthground (metalwaterpipe,conduit, etc.)toall exposed
metalparsofthe unit(antennas,handlebracket, metalcabinet,
screwheads,metallicoverlay s,controlshaft, etc.),especiallyand
exposed metalpartsthatof feran electricalreturnpathtothe chassis.
Anycurrentmeasured mustnotexceed 0.5milliampReversethe unit

Unplug the powersupplycordand connectajumperwirebetween the
twoprongsofthe plug.
Turnon the powerswitchofthe unit.
Measurethe resistancewithan ohm meterbetween the jumpered AC
plug and eachexposed metalliccabinetparton the unit, suchas
screwheads,antenna,controlshafts,handlebrackets,etc.When the
exposed metallicparthasareturnpathtothe chassis,the reading
shouldbe between 1and 5.2megohms.When thereisno returnpathto
the chassis,the reading mustbe “infinite”.If itisnotwithinthe limits
specified,thereisthe possibilityofashock hazard,and the unitmust
be repaired and rechecked beforeitisreturned tothe customer.
