Commander User’s Manual
1. Introduction
Commander X is a biometrics USB flash storage device
employing a state of the art capacitive fingerprint sensor.
The data stored on the Commander X, is encrypted and
very secure. This Mobile Storage device allows the user(s)
to securely transfer and store sensitive information
without the worry of data loss or unauthorized access.
Your fingerprints (up to 3 individuals and/or fingers) are
the only key to access the data stored on Commander, X.
Commander X, is easy to use and does not require any
application driver software (Except WIN 98).
2. Features
1. The data stored inside Commander is encrypted.
2. There is no communication between the host PC and
Commander until an authorized fingerprint enables
Commander to do so.
3. User fingerprint template is not transmittable to host
PC and therefore adding a layer of protection to user
fingerprint identity.
4. Hot plug and play. Enable you to install Commander
anytime & anywhere without bringing along a CD
ROM or a requirement of internet connection for
driver or application software download.

4. Fingerprint Sensor Mode of Operations:
For clarity, please refer to “QUICK INSTAL” page.
1. Factory Settings-Empty fingerprint template. The
fingerprint template is empty as it was deleted in the
factory. Internal flash memory is preformatted. When
user plugs the Commander into the USB port, the
ORANGE led will light up and the RED led will blink
slowly awaiting for fingerprint enrollment.
2. Entry of fingerprint template – Enrollment Mode
3. It’s important that the fingerprint is entered properly.
Place the fingerprint according to fingerprint Guard
with the center of fingerprint directly on the center of
fingerprint sensor. After authentication, it is always a
good practice to remove the finger by sliding away

from sensor to clear the fingerprint on the sensor.
This is illustrated in “Pg 10” of this user manual.
4. Normal Use of Commander – Authentication Mode
5. Please make sure the Enrollment Switch is in Normal
Setting. Upon authentication of authorized
fingerprint, the Green led will be ON for short time
and then enter USB Mass Storage Mode.
6. Re-Enrollment of Fingerprint Template
7. Commander allows the change of user fingerprint
template by first deletion of the fingerprint template.
That is Enrollment Switch is set to Enrollment setting
before plugging Commander into USB port. Upon
plugging in, the RED led will be blinking and wait for
authorized fingerprint. Once authenticated, the
fingerprint template will be deleted and Orange led
will light up. In case Commander is unplugged at this
moment (which we do not encourage), the fingerprint
template will be emptied. The fingerprints can be
entered during the next plug-in. However, we
encourage users to enter new set of fingerprint
immediately.
8. Deletion of Fingerprint Template Fingerprint
template can be deleted easily but we do not
encourage the user to do so. A Commander with
empty fingerprint template is open to theft. If the
fingerprint template is deleted, the data stored in
Commander is still retained as it is.
5. USB Mass Storage Driver Installations:
1. WIN98/ WIN98 SE Installation
2. Do not plug in the Commander driver before
installation
3. Please download the Window® drivers at
www.Microsoft.com

4. Plug in the Commander and authenticate with the
authorized fingerprints or complete the enrollment.
5. Set up is preparing to install the drivers to operating
systems. Click “Next” to continue.
6. Select “Search for the best driver for your device.
(Recommended)” Click “Next” to continue.
7. Check “Specify a location” and browse to the
directory where the drivers located; Click “Next” to
continue.
8. First part of the driver is then installed.
9. The PC then identifies a “USB disk controller”
and asks for a driver.
10. Repeat step 7.
11. The driver should now be completely installed.
12. You should find a “Removable Disk” shown in
My Computer.
13. WINDOWS ME/ WINDOWS XP/ WINDOWS 2000
14. Installation: For these three operating systems, no
driver is needed because Windows has built-in
driver that can support Commander. Simply plug the
Commander into the USB port and upon
authentication by authorized fingerprint, the
Commander will be recognized by the operating
system. Once installation is completed, plug the
Commander into the USB port and you will see an
icon showing “Removable Disk” drive.
15. Mac OS 9.X / Mac OS X Installation Plug Commander
into the USB port of your Mac computer. A new icon
name “Untitled” representing Commander would
display on the desktop and you can use it as storage
device.
16. Before removing Commander, please drag the icon to
“Trash” For Mac OS 8.6, the driver is available at
www.rocstor.com.

17. Linux 2.4.X Installation: Commander is formatted to
FAT file system before shipping to you. It can be
used with any Linux OS 2.4.x. be sure that the Linux
kernel should be added to support USB and USB file
systems.

19. Enter the system user ID “root” and input the
command “Mount/dev/sda/mnt”
20. Before removing the Commander, please input the
command “Umount/mnt”
6. Commander Care
1. Commander is a product of superior design and
craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The
suggestions below will help you to fulfill warranty
obligations and to enjoy the products for many years.
2. Place and remove the finger from the fingerprint
sensor in the recommended way as in “QUICK
INSTALL” page.
3. While placing the finger on the fingerprint sensor,
always touch the fingerprint metal protective so to
have better ESD protection on Commander.
4. Regularly clean the fingerprint sensor with clean dry
cloth.
5. Always place the fingerprint cover to protect the
Fingerprint sensor from unintentional scratches.
6. Regularly run scandisk to ensure data integrity of
Commander.
7. Always enroll a total of five fingerprints.
8. Keep Commander out of reach of small children.
9. Always re-enroll the new set of fingerprints after
deleting the fingerprint template. This will help to
prevent theft.

7. Precautions of Use:
1. Do not unplug the Commander during fingerprint
enrollment and during data read/write. This may
cause data corruption to fingerprint templates or
files; and in the worst case causing permanent
damage to Commander.
2. Do not apply any fluid to Commander during cleaning
especially on the fingerprint sensor.
3. Do not store the Commander in hot areas. High
temperature can shorten the live of electronic
devices or melt certain plastic.
4. Do not store the Commander in dusty, dirty areas.
It’s moving parts can be damage.
5. Do not store the Commander in cold areas. When it
warms up (to room temperature), moisture can form
inside, which may damage electronics circuit boards.
6. Do not attempt to open the Commander, non-expert
handling may damage it
7. Do not paint the Commander. Paint can clog the
moving parts and prevent proper operation.
8. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or
strong detergents to clean the Commander.
8. FAQ:
Q1: Which operating systems can the Commander
operates on?
ANS: Commander can operate on any of the following
OS – Windows 98/98SE, Windows ME/2000/XP,
Mac OS 9.X / OS, X/Linux2.4.x
Q2: What kind of data can be stored in the
Commander?
ANS: You can save any types of data/files on
Commander, whether they are text, graphic,
program, music or multimedia files.
Q3: When the light is flashing on the Commander,
what does that mean?

ANS: When the light is flashing, that means the
Commander is in use and data transfer is taking
place between the Commander and host
machine.
Q4: How many times can the Commander be used
and how long the data be stored on the
Commander?
ANS: The Commander can write and erase at least 1
million times, while data on the Commander can
be stored more than 10 years.
Q5: Does Commander resist vibration, magnetic
fields and humidity?
ANS: The Commander is highly resistant to vibration
and can be operated under wider ranges of
magnetic fields and humidity.
Q6: Can the data on the Commander be shared in a
networking environment?
ANS: Yes, the data can be shared in a networking
environment, as long as the host machine
enables the share function for the Commander.
Q7: Can the Commander be formatted?
ANS: Yes, the Commander can be formatted by using
normal formatting function.
Q8: Can other programs be running at the same time
while using Commander?
ANS: Yes, other programs and applications can be
running at the same time while using
Commander.
Q9: What should I do if the Commander icon does
not appear / disappear on the screen after
inserting / extracting?
ANS: Simply click the “View” menu and select
“Refresh”
Q10: What should I do when Commander is plugged
into USB port and the system find Commander, but I
can’t access Commander?

9. Warranty Policy
1. Our product is guaranteed for a period of one year
after the date of purchase against defects in material
and workmanship.
2. The warranty is invalid if the defect is due to
accidental damages include transport, misuse,
abuse, tempering, failure to follow procedures as
outline in the user manual, neglect and in case
alteration or repair carry out by unauthorized
persons and normal wear and tear and corrosion.
3. Service under guarantee is only provided when
complete registration of online warranty card within
14days from the date of purchase on the receipt.

Introduction
It’s secure – Data stored can be accessed only via fingerprint
verification and data in encrypted. Your fingerprint template
cannot be via PC.

1: First Use /Factory Setting:
-Fingerprint template is empty

Enter fingerprint according

Mass Storage Mode. Remember to slid fingerprint cover back to
its original position.

Upon fingerprint verification OK, Enrollment LED will be ON
and RED LED is blinking waiting for new sets of fingerprints as
in “Commander – First Use” section.
Do not unplug the Commander right after Enrollment especially
during RED LED blinking.
Remember to slide Enrollment Switch back to Normal Setting.
5: Care
Your Commander is a product of superior design and craftsman
and should be treated with care. The suggestions below will
help you to fulfill any warranty obligations and to enjoy this
product for many years.
1. Regularly cleaning the fingerprint sensor with clean dry
cloth.
2. Always place the fingerprint cover to protect the fingerprint
sensor from unintentional scratches.
3. Regularly run scandisk to ensure data integrity of
Commander.
4. Always enroll a total of 5 fingerprints.
5. Keep it out of reach of small children.

Limited Warranty is applicable in all countries and may be enforced in any
country where Rocstor or its authorized service providers offer warranty
service subject to the terms and conditions set forth in this Limited
Warranty. However, warranty service availability and response times may vary
from country to country and may also be subject to registration requirements
in the country of purchase.
Rocstor warrants that the Rocstor hardware product and all the internal
components of the product that you have purchased or leased from Rocstor
are free from defects in materials or workmanship under normal use during
the Limited Warranty Period. The Limited Warranty Period starts on the date
of purchase or lease from Rocstor. Your dated sales or delivery receipt,
showing the date of purchase or lease of the product, is your proof of the
purchase or lease date. You may be required to provide proof of purchase or
lease as a condition of receiving warranty service. You are entitled to
warranty service according to the terms and conditions of this document if a
repair to your Rocstor branded hardware is required within the Limited
Warranty Period. This Limited Warranty extends only to the original
purchaser or lessee of this Rocstor branded product and is not transferable
to anyone who obtains ownership of the Rocstor branded product from the
original purchaser or lessee.
Rocstor products are manufactured using new materials or new and used
materials equivalent to new in performance and reliability. Spare parts may
be new or equivalent to new. Spare parts are warranted to be free from

defects in material or workmanship for thirty (30) days or for the remainder
of the Limited Warranty Period of the Rocstor hardware product in which
they are installed, whichever is longer.
During the Limited Warranty Period, Rocstor will repair or replace the
defective component parts or the hardware product. All component parts or
hardware products removed under this Limited Warranty become the
property of Rocstor. The replacement part or product takes on either the
Limited Warranty status of the removed part or product or the thirty (30) day
limited warranty of the spare part. In the unlikely event that your Rocstor
product has a recurring failure, Rocstor, at its discretion, may elect to
provide you with a replacement unit of Rocstor's choosing that is at least
equivalent to your Rocstor branded product in hardware performance.
Rocstor reserves the right to elect, at its sole discretion, to give you a refund
of your purchase price or lease payments (less interest) instead of a
replacement. This is your exclusive remedy for defective products.
YOU SHOULD MAKE PERIODIC BACKUP COPIES OF THE DATA
STORED ON YOUR HARD DRIVE OR OTHER STORAGE DEVICES AS A
PRECAUTION AGAINST POSSIBLE FAILURES, ALTERATION, OR
LOSS OF THE DATA. BEFORE RETURNING ANY UNIT FOR SERVICE,
BE SURE TO BACK UP DATA AND REMOVE ANY CONFIDENTIAL,
PROPRIETARY, OR PERSONAL INFORMATION. ROCSTOR IS NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE TO OR LOSS OF ANY PROGRAMS,
DATA, OR REMOVABLE STORAGE MEDIA. ROCSTOR IS NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RESTORATION OR REINSTALLATION OF
ANY PROGRAMS OR DATA OTHER THAN SOFTWARE INSTALLED BY
ROCSTOR WHEN THE PRODUCT IS MANUFACTURED.
Rocstor does not warrant that the operation of this product will be
uninterrupted or error-free. Rocstor is not responsible for damage that occurs
as a result of your failure to follow the instructions that came with the
Rocstor branded product.
This Limited Warranty does not apply to expendable parts. This Limited
Warranty does not extend to any product from which the serial number
has been removed or that has been damaged or rendered defective (a)
as a result of accident, misuse, abuse, or other external causes; (b) by
operation outside the usage parameters stated in the user
documentation that shipped with the product; (c) by the use of parts
not manufactured or sold by Rocstor; or (d) by modification or service
by anyone other than (i) Rocstor, (ii) a Rocstor authorized service
provider, or (iii) your own installation of end-user replaceable Rocstor or
Rocstor approved parts if available for your product in the servicing
country.
These terms and conditions constitute the complete and exclusive warranty
agreement between you and Rocstor regarding the Rocstor branded product
you have purchased or leased. These terms and conditions supersede any

prior agreements or representations-including representations made in
Rocstor sales literature or advice given to you by Rocstor or an agent or
employee of Rocstor-that may have been made in connection with your
purchase or lease of the Rocstor branded product. No change to the
conditions of this Limited Warranty is valid unless it is made in writing and
signed by an authorized representative of Rocstor.
Limitation of Liability
IF YOUR ROCSTOR BRANDED HARDWARE PRODUCT FAILS TO WORK AS
WARRANTED ABOVE, YOUR SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY SHALL BE
REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. ROCSTOR'S MAXIMUM LIABILITY UNDER
THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS EXPRESSLY LIMITED TO THE LESSER OF
THE PRICE YOU HAVE PAID FOR THE PRODUCT OR THE COST OF
REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF ANY HARDWARE COMPONENTS THAT
MALFUNCTION IN CONDITIONS OF NORMAL USE.
ROCSTOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE PRODUCT
OR THE FAILURE OF THE PRODUCT TO PERFORM, INCLUDING ANY
LOST PROFITS OR SAVINGS OR SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. ROCSTOR IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM
MADE BY A THIRD PARTY OR MADE BY YOU FOR A THIRD PARTY.
THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY APPLIES WHETHER DAMAGES ARE
SOUGHT, OR A CLAIM MADE, UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY OR AS A
TORT CLAIM (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE AND STRICT PRODUCT
LIABILITY), A CONTRACT CLAIM, OR ANY OTHER CLAIM. THIS
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY CANNOT BE WAIVED OR AMENDED BY ANY
PERSON. THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY WILL BE EFFECTIVE EVEN IF
YOU HAVE ADVISED ROCSTOR OR AN AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE
OF ROCSTOR OF THE POSSIBILITY OF ANY SUCH DAMAGES.
THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL
RIGHTS. YOU MAY ALSO HAVE OTHER RIGHTS THAT
MAY VARY FROM STATE TO STATE OR FROM
COUNTRY TO COUNTRY. YOU ARE ADVISED TO
CONSULT APPLICABLE STATE OR COUNTRY LAWS
FOR A FULL DETERMINATION OF YOUR RIGHTS.
Options and Software
The Limited Warranty terms and conditions for Rocstor options are as
indicated in the Limited Warranty applicable to Rocstor options. ROCSTOR
DOES NOT WARRANT SOFTWARE PRODUCTS, INCLUDING ANY
SOFTWARE PRODUCTS OR THE OPERATING SYSTEM PREINSTALLED BY
ROCSTOR. Rocstor's only obligations with respect to software distributed by
Rocstor under the Rocstor brand name are set forth in the applicable end-
user license or program license agreement. Non-Rocstor hardware and
software products are provided "AS IS." However, non-Rocstor

manufacturers, suppliers, or publishers may provide their own warranties
directly to you.
Software Technical Support
Software technical support is defined as assistance with questions and
issues about the software that was either preinstalled by Rocstor on the
Rocstor branded product or that was included with the Rocstor branded
product at the time of your purchase or lease of the product. Technical
support for software is available for the first ninety (30) days from date of
product purchase or lease. Your dated sales or delivery receipt, showing the
date of purchase or lease of the product, is your proof of the purchase or
lease date. You may be required to provide proof of purchase or lease as a
condition of receiving software technical support. After the first ninety (30)
days, technical support for software that was either preinstalled by Rocstor
on the Rocstor branded product or included with the Rocstor branded
product at the time of your purchase or lease of the product is available for a
fee.
Warranty Period
Warranty Period for Commander USB Flash Drive is 1 Year Parts and
Labor.
Types of Warranty Service
Your Rocstor Limited Warranty consists of repair or replacement of defective
parts, including hard drives identified by Rocstor Support Organization as
"pre-failure."
Carry-in Warranty Service Available Monday - Friday
Under the terms of carry-in service, you may be required to deliver your
Rocstor product to Rocstor Service Center or an authorized service location
for warranty repair. You must prepay any shipping charges, taxes, or duties
associated with transportation of the product. In addition, you are
responsible for insuring any product shipped or returned. You assume risk of
loss during shipping.
Rocstor Replaceable Parts Program
Where available, the Rocstor Replaceable Parts program ships approved
