•Rocstorage, Inc. shall not be held liable for loss of data or the restoration or recovery of
data on the device. Please view complete Limited Warranty Information in this manual or
on the Rocstor website (www.rocstor.com) for further details.
Capacity Disclaimer
Actual accessible hard drive capacity will indicate up to 10% lower than stated under different
Operating Systems and formatting.
The storage volume is measured in total bytes before formatting. References to round
numbers of gigabytes or terabytes are an approximation only. For example, a disk drive labeled
as having 00GB (gigabytes) has space for approximately 00,000,000,000 bytes before
formatting. After formatting, the drive capacity is reduced by about % to 10% depending on
the operating system and formatting used.
Care and Handling
The following instructions concern the proper care and handling of the Articroc 4-Bay RAID.
Please take a moment to review these instructions.
•As with any storage solution, it is recommended that all data be backed up regularly.
•Ensure that you follow the proper removal procedure to disconnect the RAID.
•Do not move or disconnect this device from your computer while it is reading or writing
data. This may cause damage to the RAID.
•Do not place this device near a heat source or expose it to direct flame.
•Do not place the device near any equipment generating strong electromagnetic fields.
Exposure to strong electromagnetic fields may cause the device to malfunction or data to be
corrupted.
•Do not drop or cause shock to your RAID.
•Do not spill any liquid or insert any object into the device.
•Do not attempt to disassemble and service the Rocpro drive during the warranty period.
•Please read the Safety Notices and Limited Warranty information in this Manual and on the

FCC-B RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE STATEMENT
This device complies with Part 1 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two
conditions:
This device may not cause harmful interference.
This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause
undesired operation.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B
digital device, pursuant to Part 1 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to
provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is
operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates radio frequency energy, and

Summary
RAID 0 is the fastest and most efficient array type but offers no fault-tolerance. RAID 0 requires
a minimum of one drive.
RAID 1 is the best choice for performance-critical, fault-tolerant environments. RAID 1 is the
only choice for fault-tolerance if no more than two drives are used.
RAID 3 can be used to speed up data transfer and provide fault-tolerance in single-user
environments that access long sequential records. However, RAID 3 does not allow overlapping
of multiple I/O operations and requires synchronized-spindle drives to avoid performance
degradation with short records. RAID with a small stripe size offers similar performance.
RAID combines efficient, fault-tolerant data storage with good performance characteristics.
However, write performance and performance during drive failure is slower than with RAID 1.
Rebuild operations also require more time than with RAID 1 because parity information is also
reconstructed. At least three drives are required for RAID arrays.
RAID MANAGEMENT
The Rocserve 4RMe can implement several different levels of RAID technology. RAID levels
supported by the Rocserve 4RMe are shown below.
RAID evel Description Min. Drives
0
Block striping is provide, which yields higher
performance than with individual drives. There is
no redundancy.
1
1
Drives are paired and mirrored. All data is 100%
duplicated on an equivalent drive. Fully
redundant.
2
3 Data is striped across several physical drives.
Parity protection is used for data redundancy. 3
Data is striped across several physical drives.
Parity protection is used for data redundancy. 3
1 + 0
Combination of RAID levels 0 and 1. This level
provides redundancy through mirroring and
striping.

QUICK INSTA ATION GUIDE
Preparing the and Powering ON
1. Attach network cable to the R-Link port and connect the other end of network cable
to your network hub/switch.
2. Connect the eSATA cable to the eSATA port of the RAID.
3. Connect the other end of eSATA cable to the eSATA port of the eSATA card inserted in
your host system or server.
Or if you have onboard SATA port, you can connect the eSATA cable using eSATA-to-
SATA cable, and connect to the onboard SATA port.
4. Insert the key token into the key token port.
. Connect the power cord to the AC input socket. Plug the other end of power cord to
the power source.

6. Press the Power ON/OFF Switch at the rear of the unit.
7. After power ON, the RAID model name and IP address will be displayed in the LCD
display panel.
NOTE: Default IP address is 192.168.1.100 and DHCP is enabled. If you have a DHCP
server and the RAID obtained a dynamic IP from DHCP server, the dynamic IP
will be displayed in the LCD display panel.
Installing Hard Drives
Each Drive Carrier has a locking mechanism. When the Lock Groove is horizontal, this
indicates that the Drive Carrier is locked. When the Lock Groove is vertical, the Drive
Carrier is unlocked. Lock and unlock the Drive Carriers by using a flat-head screw driver.
The Lock Grooves are located on the carrier open button.
a.Press the Carrier Open button and the Drive Carrier handle will flip open.
b. Pull out an empty disk tray. Pull the lever handle outwards to remove the carrier from
the enclosure.
c. Place the hard drive in the disk tray. Make sure the holes of the disk tray align with the
holes of the hard drive.
