device is installed.
1.8 Intended use
Ecodry CN REC units are ducted dehumidifiers for false ceilings with heat recovery, to be installed in conjunction with radiant
systems. The dehumidifier Ecodry CN REC allows dehumidifying, cooling and heating by exchanging the exhausted air with
clean air from outside.
Its use is recommended within the operating limits given in this manual.
DANGER:
Place the unit where there is no explosion danger, corrosion (if close to the sea), fire and where there are vibrations
and electromagnetic fields. It is also forbidden to operate in different ways as indicated here or to disregard
necessary safety operations.
1.9 Interventions and maintenance
It is worth mentioning that the user manual can never replace the user's adequate experience; for some particularly difficult
maintenance operations, this manual constitutes a reminder of the main operations to be undertaken by operators with
specific preparation acquired, for example, attending training courses by the manufacturer.
Read carefully following recommendations:
❏A constant and accurate preventive maintenance always assures high safety in the unit's operation. Never postpone
necessary repairs and have them performed exclusively by qualified personnel, using only original spare parts.
❏Schedule any work with care.
❏The workplace of the operators must be kept clean, tidy and free from objects that may limit movements.
❏Operators must avoid clumsy operations or in awkward positions that may impair their balance.
❏Operators must be careful of the risk of getting clothing and/or hair caught or entangled in moving parts; the use of
a hair cap is recommended to contain long hair.
❏The use of necklaces, bracelets and rings can be dangerous.
❏The workplace must be suitably lit for the operations to carry out. Insufficient or excessive lighting can entail risks.
❏Wait about 10 minutes from the unit's switch off before performing maintenance in order to avoid burns.
DANGER:
- Do not repair high-pressure tubes with seals.
- Pressurised fluids in the refrigeration circuit and the presence of electrical components can cause risky situations
during installation and maintenance operations.
❏Minimize the time of refrigerant circuit’s opening. Even reduced oil exposure to air causes the absorption of large
amounts of moisture from the same oil resulting in formation of weak acids.
❏Any work on the unit must be performed by qualified personnel.
❏Before making any intervention or maintenance on the unit, make sure you have removed the power supply.
❏Check that the safety devices are working properly and do not have doubts about their functioning; otherwise, do
not start the unit under any circumstances.
❏Only use equipment recommended by the manufacturer of the unit. To avoid personal injury, do not use worn,
damaged, poor quality or improvised equipment.
Ecodry CN REC_TEC_EN_6.01 Page 7 of 80 Rossato Group Srl

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
CAUTION:
Once the cleaning of the unit has been carried out, the operator must verify that there are no damaged or worn parts
or not solidly fixed; if not, ask the maintenance technician to intervene.
❏Always keep the area where the unit is located clean and tidy.
❏The use of flammable fluids in cleanup operations is forbidden.
To clean the unit, do not use gasoline, petroleum or solvents as the first ones leave an oily patina that makes the depositing
of dust easier, while the solvents (even weak) damage the paint and then accelerate rusting. If a water jet penetrates into
electrical equipment, apart from inducing oxidation of the contacts, it can also cause a malfunction of the unit. For this
reason, do not use jets of water or steam on sensors, connectors or any electrical part.
Particular attention must be paid to the state of integrity of pressurized tubes or other parts subject to wear. You must also
check that there is no leakage of fluids or other hazardous substances.
If such situations occur, the operator is prohibited to restart the unit until the fault has been repaired.
1.10 General safety rules
❏Wear protective clothing
Each operator must use personal protection equipment such as gloves, protective helmet, safety glasses, safety shoes,
headphones for protection against noise.
❏Fire extinguisher and first aid
Place a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher nearby.
Periodically make sure that fire extinguishers are charged and that the method of use is clear.
In case of fire, use it according to the current regulations and call the firemen.
Periodically check that the first aid box is complete.

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
2. Description of the unit
High efficiency Ecodry CN REC dehumidifiers with heat recovery are designed for civil,
residential and small dimension commercial use, with high latent load that require operation
24 h/day.
They are particularly indicated in buildings where cooling is made through radiant systems
such for example, underfloor, wall and ceiling systems.
The units Ecodry CN REC combine state-of-the-art technical solutions with pleasant
aesthetics and, if correctly supplied with cold water at 15°C, they can dehumidify ambient air
without changing temperature or (if necessary) they can integrate cooling.
Neutral air is possible through 2 heat exchangers used to pre-cool inlet air and after-heat it
once it is dehumidified.
Cool air is possible through a plate condenser which removes the heat load from the
environment with the same water as the radiant system.
The units have been designed to be canalized with hard ducts or with flexible pipes.
The electronic fans with permanent-magnet brushless motor with embedded inverter ensure
a high head optimizing electric consumptions.
The top-quality refrigeration, hydraulic, aeraulic and electrical components make Ecodry CN
REC units state-of-the-art dehumidifiers in terms of efficiency, reliability and emitted sound
power.
The very high efficient recovery unit ensures performances up to more than 90%.
2.1 Range
There are 8 different models, classified according to the dehumidification capacity (300-600
m3/h) and the function (Idro-Isothermal-Hybrid):
CN REC 300 Idro
CN REC 300
CN REC 300 DC
-
CN REC 450
CN REC 450 DC
CN REC 600 Idro
CN REC 600
CN REC 600 DC
CN REC_Idro units have no compressor and work with cooled air in summer or heated water
in winter. Dehumidification, cooling or heating are made with a water battery and a 3-ways
valve. In summer, when cooling or dehumidification or both are required, and in winter when
heating is required, the water valve is opened and supply air is treated. Without water the unit
goes on working only in ventilation mode.
CN REC units have a compressor and 4 heat exchange batteries divided as follows: water
pre-cooling, evaporating, condensing, water after-heating and allows summer
dehumidification with neutral air and winter heating.
In summer:
- with water at 15°C air is dehumidified and neutral (supply air temperature is the same as
ambient temperature);
- with water between 7 and 15°C air is dehumidified and slightly cooled;
- with water over 15°C the unit loses gradually dehumidifying capacity;
Ecodry CN REC_TEC_EN_6.01 Page 9 of 80 Rossato Group Srl

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
- with water lower than 9°C the unit still works but the compressor is switched off and
supply air is treated only with water.
In winter, the compressor is always off and air is heated with the water of the radiant system,
as a normal heater fan.
Without water, the unit keeps working, losing dehumidifying power in summer and not
heating air in winter.
The units CN REC_DC have a compressor, a plate exchanger and 3 heat exchange batteries
divided as follows: water pre-cooling, evaporating, condensing. DC (double condensation)
dehumidifies in summer with neutral air or with cooled air and in winter heats the air.
With water between 12 and 18°C the dehumidification processes work properly, while with
water below 9°C or above 32°C, the compressor is switched off and the air is heated or
cooled exclusively with water from the radiant system.
In winter the compressor is always off and air is heated with water as a normal heater fan.
The unit DC cannot work without a right water flow and in summer will stop. Unblocking is a
manual reset and is performed by resetting the alarm that appears on the display. During the
lockout due to lack of water the compressor turns off, an alarm appears, the air is not treated
and the unit can only operate in recirculation/renewal mode. In winter without water the unit
does not lock out, but loses the ability to heat the air.
All versions can do ambient air exchange regardless of the season or water presence in the
radiant system.
2.2 Air flows
CN REC units have 5 predispositions for connection to air channels:
1. Supply indoor (bedrooms and living room)
2. Return from indoor (generally the hallway) for internal recirculation
3. Exhausted air extraction (from dirty rooms such as bathrooms, laundry or the kitchen)
4. Intake of renewal air from outdoor
5. Exhausted air expulsion outdoor
Airflow rates vary by unit model:

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
The image below shows how to connect CN REC 300 to the various rooms and the air flow
rate in m3/h.
The units CN REC can work in three different ambient ventilation modes:
1. Only circulation (summer - winter):air is sucked indoor and supplied again indoor. It is
heated or dehumidified or cooled according to the user request.
2. Only exchange (always): typical mid-season operation, i.e. when only air exchange is
required without heating, dehumidifying or cooling. Air is sucked in from the dirty domestic
rooms (bathrooms and kitchen) and expelled outdoor. The same quantity of renewed air is
drawn in from outdoor and supplied into the noble indoor rooms (living room and
bedrooms). The level of air exchange (on 5 steps) is set by the user manually or according
to a time slot programming.
3. Circulation+exchange (summer - winter): this mode satisfies at the same time the
demand of air exchange and heating or dehumidification or cooling. This operation takes
place during the winter or summer period. Also in this case, the level of air exchange (on 5
steps) is set by the user manually or according to a time slot programming.
Air flows are automatic. The user shall only set temperature, humidity, season and the air
exchange level. CN REC automatically adjusts air flows.
The following images show the airflows for each mode of operation and for each size. Please
note that:
- When recirculation is active (heating or cooling and/or dehumidification active), the
supply to the room will always be at maximum.
- The air flows through the recuperator are always equal and balanced.
- The renewal is adjustable on 5 levels, from 1 to 5. The number indicates the
percentage of fresh air, for example 2 means ⅖ or 40%.

3. Circulation+exchange:
2.3 Structure
The unit is made with an exclusive design that gives it a pleasant aesthetic and at the same
time makes it impossible to access to the components when the device is closed: This,
combined with the extensive use of sound-absorbing material inside the compartment,
reduces the level of sound power emitted to exceptionally low levels.
The major part of the panels are removable to allow easy access to the device, although for
maintenance access is required from the bottom. Access to filters, fans and recovery unit is
possible through the removable panels that allow to operate without any obstacle.
Ecodry CN REC_TEC_EN_6.01 Page 14 of 80 Rossato Group Srl

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
The unit panels are covered with an open-cell polyurethane synthetic material for maximum
sound absorption. This material falls in class 1 in compliance with the UL 94 standard and is
CFC-free.
All screws and fastening systems are made with non-oxidising materials, stainless steel or
carbon steel with surface passivation treatments.
Components distribution grants easy access to all of them and thanks to the layout the
weight is well distributed on the unit’s plant.
2.4 Planning criteria
All copper pipes are made under our specifications in order to control all production
processes and implicitly to improve our products quality. Each pipe complies with
requirements imposed by directive and is verified through calculation code FEM in the most
stressed point of 180° bending and at the max admitted pressure of safety devices
considering adequate safety coefficients.
All units have at the exchanger’s base condensation drain basins in stainless steel.

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
2.6 Main components
2.6.1 Fans
To reach a high efficiency and a very low noise level, the units
ECOdry CN REC use only backward curved centrifugal fans
combined with modulating brushless EC motors with signal 0:10V.
Synchronous electrical motors BLDC (BrushLess Direct Current)
have a constant rotation speed independent of the load (or resistive
torque) but connected to the frequency defined by the inverter. The
synchronous Brushless motor is “free of brushes” because current is
not directly sent to the rotor but only to the stator and for this reason there is no need to
introduce any sliding electrical contact.
The microprocessor on board manages a feedback signal (BEFM Back Electromotive Force)
that certifies or not the synchronous rotation of the rotor with the magnetic field and in case
corrects the resistive torque in order to restore/maintain the simultaneity and so the utmost
efficiency.
2.6.2 Wall user display
Through the user interface the unit is completely autonomous and the
user can make all common operations (ON/OFF, setting, time
scheduling, air exchange, etc.). Moreover it shows the operation status
and allows the fine tuning of the advanced regulation and
configuration parameters used during the unit's commissioning. On
the display there are the temperature and humidity sensors. To let the
probe measure properly room temperature and humidity data, the display shall be far from air
currents and heat sources and shall not be closed in technical rooms.
2.6.3 Very high efficient recovery unit
In a house, good ventilation is very important but when outdoor air
temperature is considerably different from indoor air temperature, air
exchange may cause a big energy loss. The ultra-high-efficiency
counterflow heat recovery unit maximizes energy exchange between
incoming and outgoing air streams allowing maximum energy recovery.
Ecodry CN REC_TEC_EN_6.01 Page 17 of 80 Rossato Group Srl

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
The polystyrene ultra-high-efficiency counterflow heat recovery unit allows energy recovery
higher than 90%.
2.6.4 Finned block heat exchanger
Finned block heat exchangers allow the maximum frontal surface in
relation to the unit’s dimension.
Wide frontal surfaces reduce the risk of dirtying and thanks to the low
crossing speed, head loss on the air side is reduced for the benefit of
efficiency and sound power emitted by the fans.
They are planned to make the heat exchange between refrigerant or
water and air by means of pipes of diameter 9,52 mm, 25 x 22 mm in
the geometry, mechanically expanded with an automatic and controlled process, made of
aluminium fins with a thickness of 0,1mm.
The rolling expansion is a critical process that determines the contact resistance pipe/fin and
is a key factor - often ignored - when realizing high heat exchange efficiency.
2.6.5 Alternative compressor
Work optimization together with an accurate choice of the volumetric
compression ratio (VCR) results in a considerable improvement of
compression’s isentropic efficiency and consequently to a reduction of
energy losses in the process itself.
The alternative hermetic compressors are complete of motor
protection against overtemperature, overcurrent and against too high
temperature of supply gas; they are mounted on rubber vibration dampers, charged with oil
and placed inside a soundproof housing.
2.6.6 Brazed plate heat exchanger
In ECOdry CN REC are used only brazed plate heat exchangers in austenitic
stainless steel AISI 316 with connections in AISI 316L characterized by a reduced
carbon content to make brazing operation easier.
The brazed plate heat exchangers represent the state-of-the-art in terms of heat
exchange efficiency. The high turbulence induced by plates internal corrugation
combined with their perfect sanding avoid dirt deposits.
2.6.7 Solenoid valves
Solenoid valves are extensively used to control the liquids flow in case of
ON/OFF users.
Ecodry CN REC_TEC_EN_6.01 Page 18 of 80 Rossato Group Srl

Ecodry CN REC- Installation, use and maintenance
The functioning principle consists in supplying electrical current to a coil that creates a
magnetic field. This is transformed to mechanical energy that opens and closes the valve.
The functioning principle is very reliable and commonly used.
2.6.8 Liquid receiver
The best refrigerant load depends on both the volumes of the exchangers and
the working points and thus may vary a lot in different operating systems. A
liquid receiver is necessary to re-establish the balance.
2.6.9 Other hydronic components
1. Molecular sieve dehydrating filter
2. High pressure switch
3. Schrader valves for control and maintenance
