1. Introduction
The SA-64-2W is a 2-wire conventional smoke detector for fire control
panel of type Notifier SFP2404.
The smoke sensor unit can easily be plugged into or detached from the
wired base unit (AS-64B-2W) for cleaning and maintenance purposes.
The sensor chamber is engineered to sense smoke by a wide range of
combustion sources. The chamber is well protected and proofed from
insects and dust contamination. A LED indicator on the sensor unit
shows the operating status and Alarm mode.
The SA-64-2W smoke detector has a low profile and a professional and
trendy appearance.

2.4 Modes of Operation

Operation Mode Red LED flash indication every 10 seconds
Alarm Mode The detector sends an alarm signal to the Fire
Control Panel. The LED remains on.
Trouble Mode Trouble is detected by Fire Control Panel (if the EOL
resistor is removed)
2.5 Signaling and Events
Tamper Event When the sensor is disconnected from the base or
the base unit from the ceiling.

Report Types Alarm, Tamper, Remote Annunciation
Alarm Report:
•Alarm Report – The detector announces an
alarm via the alarm annunciation terminal. The
event ends only by cutting power from the
panel momentarily.
•Tamper Report – If detector is removed or line
was cut. Use EOL (depending on panel request)
according to Figure 4 in Section 3.5.
•Remote Annunciation Report – GND on output
during event. The event ends only by cutting
power from the panel momentarily.
3. Installation
3.1 Choosing a Mounting Location
A smoke detector should be installed according to NFPA (National Fire
Protection Association) Standard 72. For complete coverage in
residential units, smoke detectors should be installed in all rooms, halls,
storage areas, and basements. At the least, one detector should be
placed on each floor and in each sleeping area.
Install smoke detectors as close to the center of the ceiling as possible
or at least 10 cm (4 inches) away from any wall or corner.
Do NOT locate smoke detectors at the top of peaked or gabled
ceilings; the dead air space in these locations may prevent the unit
from detecting smoke. Avoid areas with turbulent air flow such as near
doors, fans or windows. Rapid air movement around the detector may
prevent smoke from entering the unit and affected the accuracy.
3.2 Smoke Detector Limitations
Smoke detectors will not sense a fire if the smoke does not reach
the sensor.
Some smoke detectors cannot easily be seen from every location.
Connect a remote announcement light that can be seen more
easily from other parts of the house.
Smoke from a slow fire rises slowly and may not reach the smoke
detector until the fire gets bigger.
To keep your smoke detectors working properly, be sure to
maintain the unit according manufacturer’s recommendations and
UL and NFPA standards

3.3 Disassembly
The unit arrives assembled, so you must disassemble the unit into its
three pieces before you can mount it.
To disassemble:
1. Turn the sensor counter-clockwise to the “Loose” position as
shown in Figure 2 and gently remove the sensor.

2. Gently separate the top part of the base unit from the lower part.
3.4 Mounting the Base Unit
The AS-64B-2W base unit provides different punch out options for
different gang box standards for mounting to 3½-inch and 4-inch
octagonal, single-gang, and 4-inch square back boxes (Figure 3).

To mount the base unit:
1. Mark two mounting points in the wall.
2. Make sure that the wires are thread through the channel provided.
3. Drill into the marked points and insert wall plugs/gang box.
4. Prepare the wires for connection.
5. Screw in and fix the base unit.
3.5 Wiring
Easy-to-wire screw terminals provide flexible connections as shown in
Figure 4.
The detector works in N.O. (Normally Open) mode.
An End-Of-Line (resistor) is required in the last detector as the
terminator.

3.6 Assembly
Once you have mounted the base unit and inserted the battery, you
are ready to close the unit.
To assemble the unit:
1. Replace the top part of the base unit with its bottom part that has
been mounted by lining up the two lines as shown in Figure 5.

2. Attach the sensor unit onto the base unit as shown in Figure 6 and
turn the sensor clockwise till the Lock position (Figure 2).

4. Testing
Once the detector is installed, you can test the unit.
To test the unit:
1. Press and hold the Test button on the sensor:
The LED flashes quickly
The smoke detector transmits an alarm (a change in current)
to the fire panel
2. Release the Test button.
3. Cut the power to the detector to return it to Normal mode.
5. Cleaning
The unit runs a self-check for cleanliness every 43 seconds. If three
consecutive tests fail, the unit flashes three times every 43 seconds.
To clean the unit, pass a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment gently
over the front frilled sections and the sides of the smoke detector.
