This manual is for informative purposes.
The purpose of this manual is to provide information about
the characteristics of the products sold by ROTECNA, and to
facilitate their installation. Under no circumstances may this
information override the applicable regulations on installa-
tions in any country; therefore the installer responsible for
the assembly of ROTECNA products must do so in accor-
dance with the corresponding regulations.

2. Do not clean the system with corrosive products.
3. Avoid the use of water when there is feed inside.
4. After cleaning the mechanism it must completely dried before being filled.
5. Once a year, check the condition of the points susceptible to possible wear.

The Feeding Ball is a slow flow feeder, especially designed for fe-
eding nursing sows, although it can also be used in the weaning-
breeding period. It allows the animal to be fed in a restricted man-
ner or at will.
The pig farmer decides what amount of feed will fall each time the
sow activates the mechanism’s ball, controlling the amount falling
using an adjustment system.
Sows adapt very easily to the mechanism, given that the move-
ment that they need to make to activate it is similar to the move-
ment they make when rooting. Another important characteristic
of the system is that the animal has fresh feed 24 hours a day and
can eat small portions of feed whenever it likes, which prevents
feed being wasted and increases the consumption of sows at night
during warm periods.
With the correct use of the Feeding Ball, we can obtain the fo-
llowing advantages: maximising the consumption of sows during
lactation, less loss of weight and physical form of the sow, greater
weight of the piglets at weaning, less feed waste and less depen-
dency on labour and working hours. Its use in the weaning-bree-
ding period results in good follicular development, which will result
in more and better oocytes, therefore obtaining larger and more
homogeneous litters.

• Adaptation: Most sows usually learn to eat without any help. However, with some sows (mostly first-timers) it is necessary to
teach them how to eat. To do this, by simply touching the mechanism they can see and learn how it works.
• Opening of the mechanism: In the entrance of the animals (mostly first-timers), the recommendation is for the mechanism
to be fully open so that the sows associate touching the ball with the fall of the feed.
• Feeding programme: Although the adjustments will depend on genetics and the running of each farm, one possible feeding
regime is:
• Birth day - day 6 postpartum: Phased increase in the daily consumption of feed.
• Day 7 - weaning: At will feeding, so the sow can decide when and how much she wants to eat. To avoid the change from day 6 to day 7
being so abrupt, it is advisable to limit the food available on day 7 postpartum, or in other words, to not allow feeding completely at will.
Instead, for example, you could give 5 kg in the morning and 5 kg in the afternoon, so that greedy sows do not eat too much.
If it is seen that a sow does not eat well during the first week, when it is phased, it is possible to delay the feeding at will stage until
the sow is considered to be ready or, if appropriate, continue with the progressive increase until weaning.
• Before supplying feed it is advisable to carry out the following checks/actions:
1. Consumption of feed. Check whether the sow has eaten its last portion (rationed) or has eaten about the same as the other
sows in the pen (at will) (check the remaining feed in the feeder and Feeding Ball kit).

del mecanismo. Si hay mucha agua acumulada también se aconseja sacarla y dejar sólo un poco (con la válvula de nivel VRH-
3 se aconseja dejar un nivel de 2/3 cm. de agua en el comedero) para que la cerda coma pastado.

2. Build-up of feed in the feeder. Check to see whether the feeders are largely empty or there is a build up of feed/water If
this is the case, it is essential to check whether the remaining feed is good or has gone off. If the feed has gone off it needs
throwing away. When the feeding is at will and the sow accumulates feed in the feeder, the opening of the mechanism must
be adjusted. If there is also too much water building up, it is advisable to remove this and only leave a little (with the VRH-3
level valve it is advisable to leave a level of 2/3 cm of water in the feeder) so that the sow can graze.
Adjust the opening of the Feeding Ball.
Check the condition of the feed, especially
in summer. If it is not in the best possible
condition you must THROW IT OUT.
Remove the necessary water so that the sow
can eat well.
