Information on these instructions
This manual contains important information and instructions for installing
and operating the Control Unit test instrument for the RotoE-TecDrive
window drive-unit.

The “hardware dealers” target group includes all companies / individuals
that purchase hardware from hardware manufacturers for resale, without
modifying or further processing the hardware.
Window and balcony door manufacturers
The “window and balcony door manufacturers” target group includes all
companies and individuals that purchase hardware from hardware
manufacturers or hardware dealers and further process the hardware by
integrating it in windows and balcony doors.
Constructor of the power-operated window / balcony door
The “constructor of the power-operated window” target group includes
allcompanies / individuals that connect the window and the drive to each
other.
Planning engineer
The “planning engineer” target group includes construction engineers,
architects and the authority making the tender.
Building element dealers or installation companies
The “building element dealers or installation companies” target group
includes all companies and individuals that purchase windows and balcony
doors from window and balcony door manufacturers for resale and for
installation in construction projects, without modifying the windows or
balcony doors.
Builders
The “builders” target group includes all companies and individuals
whoplace orders for the manufacture of windows and balcony doors
forinstallation in their construction projects.
End users
The “end users” target group includes all individuals who use the installed
windows and balcony doors.
Operator
The “operator” target group includes all individuals who operate the
RotoE-TecDrive installed in the window.

Target groups’ obligation to give instructions
INFO
Each target group must fulfil their obligation to give instructions in
full.
Unless specified otherwise in the text below, documents and infor-
mation can be passed on as a printed document, on a CD-ROM or
via the Internet.
Responsibility of hardware dealers
Hardware dealers must pass the following documents on to the window
and balcony door manufacturer:
Catalogue
Installation, maintenance and operation instructions
Directive on attachment of supporting fitting components for turn-only
and tilt&turn fittings (TBDK)
Guidelines / advice on the product and on liability (VHBH)
Guidelines / advice for end users (VHBE)
Responsibility of the window and balcony door manufacturer
The window and balcony door manufacturer must pass the following docu-
ments on to building element dealers or the builder, even if a subcontractor
(installation company) is involved:
Installation, maintenance and operation instructions
Directive on attachment of supporting fitting components for turn-only
and tilt&turn fittings (TBDK)
Guidelines / advice on the product and on liability (VHBH)
Guidelines / advice for end users (VHBE)
CE marking for windows (BPR, Machinery Directive if applicable)
Declaration of Conformity in accordance with EN 14351-1, with specifica-
tion of conditions of use if a window with drive is placed on the market.
They must ensure that the end users are provided with the documents and
information intended for them in printed format.
Responsibility of building element dealers and the installation
company
Building element dealers must pass the following documents on to the
builder, even if a subcontractor (installation company) is involved:
Maintenance and operation instructions (with a focus on hardware)
Guidelines / advice on the product and on liability (VHBH)
Guidelines / advice for end users (VHBE)
Responsibilities of the planning engineer
The planning engineer must precisely specify the requirements for the
power-operated window, particularly the necessary safety measures. To do
this, it is necessary to prepare and submit the following documentation:

Target groups’ obligation to give instructions
Responsibility of the system constructor
The system constructor must submit the following documentation to the
operator and comply with the following conditions:
Installation plan
Handover certificate
User information I Operation instructions
CE marking in the immediate vicinity of the manufacturer’s information
(constructor), easily legible on product (≥ 5 mm) and permanent
(e.g. inrebate) and Declaration of Conformity in accordance with
Machinery Directive, if the constructor installed the drive in an existing
window (becomes manufacturer).
When installing a complete, power-operated window, the permissibility
of the application must be checked.
Risk assessment to check the planning specifications (see chapter
“Responsibilities of the planning engineer”).
Responsibility of the builder
The builder must hand over the following documents to the end user:
Maintenance and operation instructions (with a focus on hardware)
User guidelines / advice for end users (VHBE)
Planning permission
Furthermore, the builder must comply with all official requirements.
Responsibility of the operator
The operator must look after the maintenance documentation and keep it
for future reference. They must also instruct and supervise regular mainte-
nance performed by specialist personnel.

This manual contains instructions relating to safety. The principal safety
information in this chapter includes information and instructions relevant to
the safe use or maintaining the safe condition of the product. Warning
instructions that relate to handling warn of residual risks and are located
before steps that are relevant to safety.
fFollow all of the instructions in order to prevent personal injury and
property or environmental damage.
The warning instructions that relate to handling are identified differently
according to the severity of the associated danger. The signal words and
the associated warning symbols used are clarified below.

Limitation of liability
All information and instructions contained in this document have been
compiled in consideration of the applicable standards and regulations,
thelatest developments in technology and many years of knowledge and
experience.
The hardware manufacturer assumes no liability for damage caused by:
Failure to comply with this document and all product-specific documents
and other applicable directives (refer to the chapters “Security” and
“Stipulated use”).
Non-stipulated use / misuse (refer to the chapters “Security” and “Stipu-
lated use”).
Insufficient invitation to tender, non-compliance with installation specifi-
cations and non-compliance with the application diagrams or application
ranges.
Increased contamination.
Claims made by third parties against the hardware manufacturer on ac-
count of damage resulting from misuse or failure to comply with the obliga-
tion to give instructions on the part of hardware dealers, the window / bal-
cony door manufacturer, the constructor of the power-operated window,
the planning engineer, building element dealers or the builder are passed
on accordingly.
The obligations agreed in the delivery contract, the general terms and con-
ditions, the hardware manufacturer’s terms and conditions of delivery and
the legal provisions applicable when the contract was concluded shall apply.
The warranty only covers original Roto components.
We reserve the right to make technical changes as part of improvement to
performance characteristics and further development.

Stipulated use
The RotoE-TecDrive | Control Unit offers you the following functions:
Creating a clear separation between window construction and electrical
installation activities by checking proper installation before starting the
electrical installation.
Resetting the RotoE-TecDrive as required.
Installing the RotoE-TecDrive without mutually unlocking push-buttons.
Presenting the RotoE-TecDrive to potential customers.
The stipulated use also includes compliance with all information contained
in the product-specific documentation, such as:

Product catalogues
Information, specifications from profile manufacturers (e.g. light metal
profiles, etc.)
Directives TBDK, VHBH and VHBE issued by the Gütegemeinschaft
Schlösser und Beschläge e. V. quality assurance association.
Applicable national laws and directives (see page 4)
Any use that goes beyond or differs from the stipulated use is considered
misuse.

Misuse
Any use and processing of the products that goes beyond or differs from
the stipulated use is considered misuse and can lead to hazardous situa-
tions.
WARNING
Misuse may pose a risk of death!
Misuse and incorrect installation of hardware can lead to serious
injuries.
fOnly use hardware combinations that have been approved by
the hardware manufacturer.
fOnly use original accessories or those that have been approved
by the hardware manufacturer.
fPay attention to the complete product documentation.

DANGER
Risk of death due to power failure!
The RotoE-TecDrive may fail in emergency situations (power
failure) which may prevent the quick opening of the window.
fNever use the RotoE-TecDrive in windows and balcony doors
which are marked as escape routes.
DANGER
Risk of death due to live components!
Current can lead to fatal injuries or death.
fOnly use the device with 24V, 0.63A power supply with
touchable safety extra-low voltage.
fAll assembly and installation work must be carried out by
experts.
fThe relevant national regulations must be observed and
complied with in the process (in Germany, e.g. VDE 0100).
WARNING
Risk of injury from windows which are tilted downwards
(Tilt-Only sash)
The hardware can be unlocked as a result of incorrect installation
or improper operation, which can lead to the window sash falling
out, if no restrictor and cleaning stay is installed on the Tilt-Only
sash.
fRestrictor and cleaning stays must be installed on Tilt-Only
sashes if none are present.
CAUTION
Danger of crushing and trapping due to opening and closing
forces
Movable parts of the drive can cause injuries during operation.
fNever reach between the window sash and window frame or
between the movable parts of the RotoE-TecDrive while the
drive is moving.
WARNING
Loss of function due to deformation of drive components
Failure to comply with the recommended sash dimensions
canlead to deformation and a loss of the function of the
RotoE-TecDrive.
fAlways comply with the recommended sash dimensions in
accordance with the application diagram. Failure to comply
with the recommended sash dimensions voids the guarantee
and warranty for the RotoE-TecDrive.

Functional principle and operation
Functional principle
The Control Unit is usually operated with the software provided using
aconnected PC. You are, however, also able to test the functions of a
RotoE-TecDrive using the push-buttons on the Control Unit:
Manual operation
1. Connect the E-Tec Drive to the Control Unit using the RJ45 cable
provided.
2. Connect the power supply unit to the Control Unit and power supply
socket.
3. Follow the instructions on the rear of the Control Unit to perform a
function test.
To be able to use all of the Control Unit functions in full, install the software
supplied on a PC or laptop and control the RotoE-TecDrive using the com-
puter connected by the USB cable.
Also use the USB connection with the computer to change the drive set-
tings and run software updates.
System requirements
The PC that is to be operated using the Control Unit must meet the follow-
ing system requirements:
Windows operating systems in one of the following versions
Windows 7 or more recent (SP1)
Windows 10
Rights
To install the driver and software, you must be logged into the PC with
administrator rights. Contact your system administrator if necessary.

Installing the driver
Install the necessary driver before installing the software.
You can find this at
https://ftt.roto-frank.com/en/products/product-view/detail/roto-e-tec-drive/
Save the file in a directory of your choice. Unzip the file and install the
driver.
1. Double-click on the driver file to start installing the driver.
2. Confirm any security warnings that appear by clicking on “Ausführen”
[Run].
3. Confirm extraction of the driver.
4. Accept the license agreement and confirm the following steps of driver
installation by clicking on “Weiter” [Next].
Once you have successfully installed the driver, install the software and
connect the Control Unit to your PC.

Connecting the Control Unit
1. Connect the Control Unit to the PC with the USB cable.
2. Connect the Control Unit to the RotoE-TecDrive with the eight-pin
RJ45cable.
3. Connect the power supply unit to the Control Unit and power supply.
4. On the E-Tec Drive with software version 5.0 or more recent, set the
slide switch on the Control Unit to NEW (left).
Installing the software
1. Launch the installation program by double-clicking on it.
The PC searches for the preselected COM port.
2. Click on “Verbinden” [Connect] to establish the connection between
the PC and RotoE-TecDrive.
You are able to use all the functions once you have established the con-
nection between the PC and RotoE-TecDrive. Configure all the required
changes on the PC in the input screen and then transfer these to the
RotoE-TecDrive.

3. Open the “Einstellungen” [Settings] tab to view and change the
settings for the RotoE-TecDrive.

Changed settings do not become active until they are trans-
ferred to the RotoE-TecDrive by clicking on “Konfiguration
schreiben” [Write configuration].

Setting the RotoE-TecDrive
Once your RotoE-TecDrive is connected to your PC, you are able to access
the current settings and change them as required.
1. Click on “Konfiguration lesen” [Read configuration] to display the
currently valid settings.
The current settings are read out and displayed. On the PC, now config-
ure the settings you would like to adapt and then transfer these to the
RotoE-TecDrive using the Control Unit.
Setting the ventilation period
When using the normal ventilation function of the RotoE-TecDrive (press
the OPEN push-button three times), the window is opened in the tilt posi-
tion and closed again after ten minutes as standard. You can change this
ventilation period as required.
1. Enter a value between 1 and 60 to set the ventilation period.
2. Click on “Konfiguration schreiben” [Write configuration] to transfer
the changed value to the RotoE-TecDrive.
Setting the tilt distance
1. Enter a value between 50 and 120 to set the ventilation tilt distance in
millimetres.
WARNING
On fanlights with a minimal sash rebate height, the maximum
permissible tilt distance is 80mm.
2. Click on “Konfiguration schreiben” [Write configuration] to transfer
the changed value to the RotoE-TecDrive.
Setting the drive speed
1. Select the reduced drive speed if necessary.

Reduce the drive speed of the RotoE-TecDrive to minimise
operating noise (e.g. in bedrooms).

Setting acoustic signals
Acoustic signals provide assistance, especially when you are setting
theRotoE-TecDrive. You can activate and deactivate these according
torequirements.
1. Activate required signals and deactivate unnecessary ones.

minimise operating noise (e.g. in bedrooms).
2. Click on “Konfiguration schreiben” [Write configuration] to transfer
the changed values to the RotoE-TecDrive.

Operating the drive
Regardless of the normal operation of the RotoE-TecDrive using the
“OPEN” and “CLOSE” push-buttons in the wall ( IMO_311), you can
also operate the RotoE-TecDrive using the software if a connection has
been established.
CAUTION
Danger of crushing and trapping due to opening and closing
forces
Movable parts of the drive can cause injuries during operation.
fNever reach between the window sash and window frame or
between the movable parts of the RotoE-TecDrive while the
drive is moving.
Click on the corresponding button for operation:
Button Function
“Auf” [Open] Window opens.
Stop Drive process is interrupted.
“Zu” [Close] Window closes
“Lüften”
[Ventilation]
Ventilation process starts with the currently set
parameters.
“Positions-Reset”
[Position reset]
The position reset can be used to correct malfunctions;
the final position of the hardware is recalibrated
( IMO_311).
Alternatively: operating the RotoE-TecDrive using the Control Unit
Regardless of the normal operation of the RotoE-TecDrive using the OPEN
and CLOSE push-buttons in the wall ( IMO_311), you can also operate
the RotoE-TecDrive using the Control Unit if a connection has been estab-
lished, see page 24.

Running a firmware update
Running a firmware update
If your RotoE-TecDrive is not working properly, run a firmware update.
Installing the firmware
ATTENTION
Risk of property damage
During the update, the connection between the RotoE-TecDrive
and PC must not be interrupted as an incomplete update may
cause a loss of function.
fEnsure that the power supply is continuous.
fEnsure that the connection to the PC is stable.
fNever switch off the Control Unit under any circumstances.
1. Contact your specialist retailer and ask them to send you the latest
firmware version or a link to download it.
You will receive an update file and a password which you need for
installation.
2. Copy the update file (*.bin file format) to the PC being used to connect
to the RotoE-TecDrive.
3. Ensure that the RotoE-TecDrive is connected to the PC.
4. Click on the “Firmware-Update” [Firmware update] button.
5. Select the update file and click on “Öffnen” [Open].
6. Enter your password and confirm.
The firmware file is checked and installed.
7. Confirm any prompts which appear by clicking on “OK”.
