for use on all Rototilt tiltrotators.
Stone grapple
The grapple arms work tip-to-tip,
at a at angle (2).
The stone grapple models are suitable
for use on the Rototilt R series.
Sorting grapple
The grapple arms work tip-to-tip,
at a sharper angle (3).
The sorting grapple is suitable for use
on the Rototilt R series.

WARNING!
The grapple is tted with an accumulator.
It is a high-pressure pressure vessel that must
be discharged before any kind of service work.
Undo the connections carefully.
Grapple cylinder
The grapple cylinder has inbuilt buering
at its inner end position.
Following connection to the hydraulic
system, the cylinder must be vented
by slowly running it to its end positions
a few times.
1. Connection, Open (-)
2. Connection, Close (+)
3. Accumulator, pressurized ≤20 MPa
4. Load-holding valve
The grapple cylinder is operated by a
double-acting hydraulic circuit. Oil ow
on the cylinder (+) side closes the grapple
arms, while oil ow on the cylinder (-)
side opens the grapple arms.
The grapple’s hydraulic system includes
a safety device that makes sure grapple
functions are not lost in the case of an
unintentional pressure drop in the base
machine hydraulic system.
The safety device comprises a load
holding valve and accumulator. The
load holding valve maintains hydraulic
pressure on the grapple (+) side, which
prevents unintentional grapple opening.
The pressurized gas in the accumulator
is compressed further by hydraulic
pressure at the start of work. This
automatically adjusts the grapple if the
load shifts.
Warning decals
1. Maximum working pressure 25MPa;
axed to the grapple chassis.
2. Pressurized equipment; axed to
the accumulator.
!
IMPORTANT!
the decals are extremely important for safety
when operating the grapple.
Keep the warning decals fully legible.

Limitations
Grapples may only be installed on base
machines that meet specications;
see Technical data.
Use the grapple within the stipulated load,
working pressure and grasp limits. See
the information plates and technical data.
Do not alter grapple characteristics with
foreign objects. Where the use of chains
or strops is necessary for lifting, use the
base machine’s lifting hook.
An installed grapple will change the
base machine’s geometry and weight
conditions. Pay attention to the risk of
collision between the base machine,
tools and/or its load.
Take extra care when handling long
objects with regard to the forces of inertia
and the extended risk area.
The risk of a load or part of a load falling
means nobody may be present beneath
a hoisted object.
The grapple may only be used for
objects intended for lifting and under no
circumstances may it be used for lifting
people.
Always rest the grapple on a stable,
at surface. Make sure the tool cannot
tip over.
Using the product
Before use, make sure nobody is within the base machine’s hazard area. People and property remain
at risk even when the grapple is used correctly.
At startup
Carry out daily checks; see Service.
Test the grapple and check that it
functions correctly in every respect.
Maneuver the base machine and tool
using smooth movements. This achieves
greater precision and less wear.
Remain constantly on the lookout for
signs of degraded functions.
Use the grapple in the intended manner
and within its capacity limits; see
Limitations and Technical data.
In the event of an accident
Always rest the grapple on a stable, flat surface.
Make sure the tool cannot tip over.
Take care of the environment; make sure no
hydraulic oil leaks out. Use a collection vessel.
Disconnect the hydraulic hoses, then the tool.
Contact an authorized service workshop

Service
Perform preventive maintenance to ensure product performance, operating economy and service life.
Check and perform all service functions after 10 hours’ operation, and then according to the
maintenance schedule.
Spare parts
Order spare parts through your dealer.
Always state the type of grapple and
manufacturing number on the information
plate.
Only use original spare parts from Rototilt
Group AB. Rototilt Group AB assumes no
liability for the product if other spare parts
are used.
Consumable items
Regarding assembly paste, grease and
hydraulic oil, use the recommended
products.
Cleaning
Take care when cleaning. Avoid pressure
washers.
Use a collection vessel when replacing
hydraulic oil. Waste such as hydraulic oil,
hoses and similar must be handed in for
recycling or destruction.
!
IMPORTANT!
More extensive adjustments and repairs must be
carried out by an authorized service workshop.
Contact your supplier for information on service
providers.
!
WARNING!
During service, maintenance or other work on
the grapple, disconnect the power and all the
hydraulic hoses connected to the base machine.
Risk of personal injury; exercise caution!
!
IMPORTANT!
If the tool is subjected to external damage it
must be removed from operation until inspection
and any necessary action is taken.
!
WARNING!
The accumulator is a pressure vessel lled with
pure nitrogen up to 200 bar. The accumulator
may not be subjected to external damage or
temperatures above 100°C. The accumulator
may only be lled by an authorized service
workshop and then only with nitrogen.
!
WARNING!
Take care of the environment. Use a collection
vessel to avoid harming the environment.

Daily checks
Carry out checks and service before use.
Keep the warning decals fully legible.
Clean any dirt from hydraulic cylinders
and grapple arms.
Remove foreign objects from the tool.
Check that cables, hoses and
accumulators are intact.
Check that the quick coupler, chassis
and bolted joints are intact.
Check the shank locks.
Greasing instructions
The grapple is tted with sliding bearings
which have greasing intervals of up to
50 hours, depending on the environment.
When operating in dirty, dusty and
damp environments, we recommend
reducing greasing intervals to no more
than 16 hours to improve sliding bearing
durability.
Expander pins
Expander pins are secured in their
bearing position through the expansion,
when tightened, of tapered sleeves at
the ends of the pins that form a shrink
t. Check and retighten the grapple
expander pins for the rst time after
10 operating hours, and then every
250 operating hours. Grease the tapered
expanders and pins on reinstallation.
The MG20 grapple is tted with a bearing
that is secured with a locking nut.
Tightening torque when checking and
re-tightening is 17 Nm.
