ii. The child should lie on his/her side with the knees slightly bent. Babies should be placed on their stomach with
their legs hanging down in an L-shape. These positions ensure safe insertion of the thermometer.
iii. With one hand, separate the buttocks. With the other hand, gently glide only the silver tip of the thermometer
probe into the rectum. DO NOT INSERT MORE THAN 1/2 INCH. If there is any resistance, stop insertion.
iv. Hold the thermometer in place until ten beeps are heard (approximately one minute). If ten triple-beeps are
heard, that indicates an elevated temperature. We strongly suggest that you retake the temperature several
times to verify. If multiple readings indicate a fever, record the highest reading.
v. Remove thermometer from rectum.
vi. Read temperature.
vii. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the thermometer off.
viii. Clean and sanitize the probe thoroughly.
ix. Once used rectally, the thermometer should never be used orally for sanitary reasons.
How to Replace the Battery:
1. The battery symbol ( ) will show in the bottom right corner of the display window when the battery needs to be
replaced.
2. Remove the battery cover (see diagram A).
3. Use a toothpick or insulated probe to remove the battery (see diagram B).
4. Insert the new battery. Make sure the battery is replaced correctly. The battery should be inserted with the (+)
positive side facing up and the (-) negative side facing down.
5. Replace the battery cover. Make sure it is fastened securely.

●ORAL - never use the thermometer orally after it has been used rectally for sanitary reasons.
●UNDERARM or AUXILIARY - keep in place for four minutes and ignore the beeps.
