ADJUST THE TRIMMER TO A COMFORTABLE
OPERATING POSITION
1. Press in the pump-button and turn the shaft to
a comfortable operating angle.
2. Move the lock button in the direction of the cutting
unit and adjust the shaft length in or out to suit.
3. Loosen the adjuster screw and move the second
handle vertically and horizontally until you are holding
the unit firmly.
4. Move the clamp towards the handle to rotate the
motor body into the desired operating position.
Connecting an extension lead:
Attach an extension lead approved for outdoor work
to the cable on the trimmer. Locate it in the retainer
as shown in Fig. 3.
ADJUSTING THE CUTTING LINE
Check the cutting line before you switch on the trimmer.
It should be long enough to reach the line cutter.
If necessary, push in the knob and pull the line out to the
appropriate length.
SWITCHING YOUR TRIMMER ON/OFF
Plug in the extension lead and hold the trimmer in the
operating position.
■Switching on: Hold the trigger switches in the handle
so that both can be squeezed simultaneously.
The triggers must be operated together for the
trimmer to switch on.
■Switching off: Release the triggers. The trimmer will
switch off automatically.
OPERATION
After switching the unit on, let it run for a few seconds
before cutting any grass. The cutter will automatically trim
both lines to the correct length. Now you can start cutting
the grass.
Worn lines will produce an unsatisfactory result. Tap the
head lightly on the ground from time to time to feed out
new lengths of line.
TIPS
- Always switch the unit on before making contact with
the grass.
- Slowly move the trimmer from right to left at
a 30º angle.
- Cut high grass in several stages.
- Do not attempt to cut damp or wet grass.
- Do not overload your trimmer – always operate it at
maximum revs.
- Do not let the line come into contact with rocks,
stonework or fences. The guide roller is designed to
make working near fences and walls easier.
CHANGING THE LINE SPOOL (FIG. 4)
Unplug the power cord! Press in both locks, then remove
the spool cover. Take out the used spool and clean off
any compacted dirt or grass.
WARNING: Do not lose the loose steel spring.
Feed the ends of the line from the replacement spool
through the line outlets in the spool holder.
Locate the replacement spool on the spring in the holder,
making sure that you do not snag the lines. Replace the
spool cover and snap in into place. Proceed as described
under “Adjusting the cutting lines”.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Unplug the power cord! Remove any dirt or grass from
the motor housing, guide roller and line guard.
If necessary, use a damp cloth. Do not use solvents.

GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES WHEN
USING ELECTRIC TOOLS
WARNING!
When using electric tools, follow the basic safety
advice below to guard against electric shocks,
injuries and burns.
Read and observe all these guidelines before
you use electric tools.
Pay special attention to the safety information.
SAFE OPERATION
■Keep your work area tidy. An untidy work area can
lead to accidents.
■Take environmental conditions into account.
Do not leave electric tools out in the rain. Do not use
electric tools in damp or wet conditions. Make sure
you have good lighting. Do not use electric tools near
flammable liquids or gases.
■Protect yourself from electric shocks. Avoid
contact with grounded items such as pipes, heaters,
ovens and refrigerators.
■Keep children away. Do not let anyone else handle
the electric tool or power cable. Keep other people
away from your work area.
■Keep your electric tools safe. When not in use,
electric tools should be stored in a dry, elevated or
locked location, out of the reach of children.
■Do not overload your electric tools. They will work
better and longer if used as they were designed to.
■Use the correct tool. Do not use under-powered
tools for heavy work. Use your electric tools only for
their intended purpose.
■Wear suitable work clothes! Rubber gloves and
non-slip shoes are recommended for outdoor work.
If you have long hair, wear a hair net.
■Wear protective glasses. For dusty work, wear
a facemask.
■Do not use the power cable in ways for which it is
not intended. Never carry electric tools by their
power cable. Do not pull on the cable to remove the
plug from the power socket. Protect the cable from
heat, oil and sharp edges.
■Secure the work piece. Use clamps or a vice to hold
the work piece firmly. This is certainly safer than
holding it in your hand, and leaves both hands free to
operate the tool.
■Stand normally. Make sure that you are standing
comfortably, with your weight evenly distributed.
■Look after your tools. Keep tools sharp and clean
so you can work more efficiently and safely. Follow
the tool-maintenance guidelines and have any
damaged tools repaired or replaced by a qualified
specialist. Check the extension lead regularly and
replace it if damaged. Ensure handles are dry and
free of oil and grease.
■Remove the plug from the power point: When the
tool is not in use, before undertaking maintenance
and when changing tools.
■Do not leave adjusting devices in the tool. Before
you switch it on, check that you have removed the
key or other adjusting tool.
■Do not turn tools on accidentally. Do not carry
tools attached to the power point with your finger on
the ON/OFF switch. Make sure that the switch is OFF
when you plug the tool in to the power point.

common sense when working. Do not use electric
tools if you are unable to concentrate.
■Check the tool for damage. Before continuing to
use your electric tool, check safety devices or slightly
damaged components carefully to ensure they will
operate effectively and as specified. Check that
moving parts are operating correctly, will not jam and
