W h a t i s B a r i a t r i c S - C A P E P O D ?
Bariatric S-CAPEPOD is designed for the
rapid and safe evacuation of bariatric
bedridden people, up to 300 kg / 661 lbs.
It simply sits under the bed mattress and
when needed, it can be deployed in only a
matter of seconds.
The device ensures that no one leaves
behind during an emergency evacuation.
The Bariatric S-CAPEPODcan make a
huge difference when every second
counts.
Therefore, it is of critical importance that
you and your staff knows how to use the
Bariatric S-CAPEPOD. By studying the
materials in this eBook, you will learn the
basics on how to use the evacuation
sheet.

S T E P 3
This step is performed by two people. Each person should stand at one long side of the bed.
Pull the small flaps towards each other and tack them together with hook and loop fasteners.
Position them under the abdomen of the client. Do this as tight and powerful as possible.

The foot end has stitched corners. You slap these around the mattress corners at the foot end.
For wide mattresses you must partly dent the mattress corners in order to them into the
stitched corners. The corners should end up above the mattress.

Grab the pulling strap at the foot end. This
strap is located on the 'underside of the foot
end' in an envelope. The second caregiver
grabs the pull-tab at the head end. This is
located at the head en of the Bariatric

Now turn the mattress simultaneously. Do
this slowly and turn the mattress about 80
degrees. Keep the mattress levelled as long
as possible and then lower it. Pull alone or in
pairs slowly until it is situated on the ground.

In case you are not on the ground floor, you
must use the stairs, because you are not
allowed to use a lift in the event of a fire.
Stand a few steps lower, alone or with a
second assistant.

Slowly lower the mattress once the patient

bottom is over the stairs and no longer on
the floor above. One leg remains in contact
with the mattress.

The two other assistants at the top side

S A F E T Y I N F O R M A T I O N
•
Always observe the instructions given in the instruction manual when using the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD.
•
Only use the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD in emergencies, such as a fire, power cut, gas leak, terrorist attack, natural disaster, extreme smoke or any
other life-threatening situation or emergency.
•
Product training with the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD must always be given by a certified emergency response team member.
•
Incorrect placement of the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD between the bed frame and the mattress may have a negative effect on the effectiveness of the
Bariatric S-CAPEPOD. Therefore, always strictly observe the instructions given in the fold-out leaflet.
•
The use of alcohol and/or prescription and over-the-counter medicine may have a negative effect on the skill of the rescuer who pulls the
Bariatric S-CAPEPOD.
•
Do not remove any parts of the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD.
•
Make sure the safety information and instruction manual are kept close to the bed where a Bariatric S-CAPEPOD is located.
•
This Bariatric S-CAPEPOD is not intended for recreational use.
•
Do not use flammable vapours, materials or liquids, such as petrol, alcohol, etc., close to the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD.
•
Not observing the instructions given in the instruction manual provided with the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD may result in serious physical injury or
even death.
•
Sharp edges or protrusions may damage the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD and, therefore, reduce the effectiveness of the product.
•
Practice using the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD at least once a year in order to guarantee its correct and safe use in the event of an emergency.
•
Contact the various rescue services (fire brigade, ambulance service, etc.) to inform them of the purchase and presence of the Bariatric
S-CAPEPOD.
•
The Bariatric S-CAPEPOD model is only suitable for beds with a maximum width of 100-125 cm and a maximum length of 220 cm.
•
The Bariatric S-CAPEPOD is not suitable to be pulled over a naked flame.
•
The Bariatric S-CAPEPOD must be carefully checked for damage after it has been used. If damage is observed, the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD must
not be reused. Furthermore, the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD must be folded up and put away each time after use.
•
Make sure the straps at both the foot and the head of the bed are securely tucked away if the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD is placed between the bed
frame and the mattress and is not used for an emergency evacuation.
•
For hygiene reasons, the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD must be regularly cleaned. Always wash the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD separately and follow the
washing instructions. Closely observe the washing instructions, otherwise the quality of the hook and loop fasteners may be negatively affected.
•
The Bariatric S-CAPEPOD has a 1-year warranty for material and manufacture faults, which is valid from the date of purchase. The manufacturer
may ask you for proof of the purchase date. Therefore, it is recommended to keep the invoice in a safe place. Faults or problems with the use of
the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD as a result of an accident, misuse, incorrect use, alterations, vandalism, incorrect placement, incorrect maintenance or
administration, as well as overdue normal and routine maintenance, are not covered by the warranty.
•
The manufacturer is not liable for (consequential) damage as a result of the use of the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD.
