Model 1100
Determine Mounting Location
The Safgard 1100 must be installed at or above the
minimum safe water level established by the boiler
manufacturer. The 1100 can be installed directly into
the boiler if a suitable tapping is available 훽. The
1100 can also be installed in the boiler piping using a
standard 3/4" tee 훾.
Note: When installing in piping, select a location
close to the boiler to ensure the 4' wiring harness will
reach the 24-Volt transformer. The cut-off should be
installed on the boiler side of the circulator or shut-off
valves.
IMPOR AN : Check for adequate clearance
(minimum 1/4") from metal probe sensor to any
surface inside the boiler or pipe.
Do not install in a location that could hold or trap
water in the event of a low water condition.
Apply Teflon®tape to
the threads of the
odel 1100. Do not
use pipe dope or
other pipe sealants.
Hand tighten the
control into boiler
tapping or pipe tee.
Be careful not to
cross thread.
Note: Do not use a
wrench. Hand tighten
only.
Plug wire harness
into connector on
face of control.
WARNING Electrical shock hazard. To prevent electrical s ock, deat or
equipment damage, disconnect power supply before
installing or servicing control. Only qualified personnel may install or service t is control in
accordance wit local codes and ordinances. Read instructions completely before proceeding.
CAUTION To prevent serious
burns, boiler
s ould be t oroug ly cooled before installing or
servicing control.
WARNING Frozen pipes/water damage. Central eating systems are prone to s ut down as a result of power or fuel outages,
safety related fault conditions or equipment failure. Installation of freeze protection monitoring or ot er precautions
is recommended for unattended dwellings in climates subject to sustained below-freezing temperatures.
WIRING TO CONTROL CENTER
For boilers equipped with a Honeywell R8285 Control Center or equivalent
WIRING TO AN AQUASTAT
For boilers equipped with a Honeywell Model L8148E or L8124E Aquastat. Safgard Model 1100 is not to be used with
Model L8148C or L8124C. Safgard Model 1150 should be used for oil-fired boilers.

Connect the WHITE wire to Cand the RED wire to R
using the screw terminals on the control center.
Connect the GREEN wire to any suitable, unpainted
ground screw. Note: for operation of the control, the
green wire must be connected to a ground source
electrically common with boiler ground. 햲Unplug the factory-wired quick connect from ter-
minal Rand 햳plug into YELLOW wire with male
connector. 햴Plug YELLOW wire with female con-
nector into terminal R.
Connect the WHITE wire to V and the RED wire to Z. Connect the
GREEN wire to the ground screw on the bottom of the aquastat or any
other suitable, unpainted ground screw. Note: for operation of the con-
trol, the green wire must be connected to a ground source electrically
common with boiler ground.
햲Unplug the factory-wired quick

WIRING TO 24 VAC TRANSFORMER
For boilers using a standard 24 VAC transformer
BOILER SPECIFIC MODELS AND WIRE HARNESSES
Connect RED wire to hot side of 24 Volt boiler trans-
former (R). Connect WHITE wire to common side of
24 Volt boiler transformer (C). Connect the GREEN
wire to any suitable, unpainted ground screw.
Note: for operation of the control, the green wire
must be connected to a ground source electrically
common with boiler ground.
Cut-off the connectors and strip the ends of the two
yellow wires of the odel 1100 harness. Break into
the burner circuit between the hot side of the trans-
former (R) and other limit controls. Connect either
YELLOW wire to the hot side. Connect the other
YELLOW wire in series with other limit controls.
Important: The switch contacts of the low water cut-
off (yellow wires) must be wired in series with all
other limit and operating controls (as shown above).

1. Before raising t e water level above t e Model 1100, turn on power to t e boiler and set t e t ermostat to call for eat. Bot t e green
“POWER” LED and amber “LOW WATER” LED s ould illuminate. T e burner s ould not fire. IMPORTANT: If t e burner fires wit no water
at t e probe, immediately s ut down power to t e boiler and refer to t e Trouble S ooting instructions below.
2. Proceed to fill t e boiler wit water. W en water reac es t e LWCO position, t e burner s ould fire. If t e burner does not fire, refer to t e
Trouble S ooting instructions below.
3. Turn off t e power to t e boiler and finis filling t e system.
4. Before leaving t e job, power up t e system and pus t e TEST button on t e Model 1100 to simulate a low water condition. T e amber
“LOW WATER” LED s ould illuminate and t e burner s ould s ut down.
SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
EVERY YEAR C eck control operation annually by pressing t e TEST button. T e amber “LOW WATER” LED s ould illuminate and t e
burner s ould s ut down.
5 YEARS Remove t e low water cut-off every five years and clean all surfaces in contact wit water.
IF AMBER LED If t e amber “LOW WATER” LED is blinking, t e control s ould be removed and all surfaces in contact wit water s ould be
IS BLINKING cleaned. T e blinking LED indicates t at t e sensor may be getting coated wit oil or ot er residues in t e system. If left
unc ecked, t is could result in a nuisance low water s utdown.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
IF HE BURNER DOES NO SHU DOWN
(w en water is below t e probe or
w en t e TEST button is pressed)
1. Turn off boiler power immediately and re-c eck wiring.
2. Turn off boiler power and drain system. Remove low water cut-
off and c eck for adequate clearance – no metal s ould be in
contact wit t e control’s metal probe tip.
IF HE BURNER DOES NO FIRE
1. Make sure water as reac ed t e level of t e control.
2. C eck green wire for proper ground. Make sure t e wire is
attac ed to an unpainted surface t at is electrically common to
t e boiler.
3. C eck to ensure t e control’s metal probe tip is not surrounded
by an air pocket. S ut down power to t e boiler and slowly
loosen, but do not remove, t e control. Allow any air to escape.
W en water begins to seep past t reads, retig ten t e control.
