1 AIM
This user’s manual describes the relevant information for operating the Safran Data System (ZDS) RX-1
Compact Operational Receiver.
The RX-1 is a 1U dual-channel multiband telemetry receiver, including multi-mode TIER demodulators, bit-
synchronizers, and state-of-the-art signal processing functions enabling to get the most data from flight test
missions. Its compact size and all its interfaces allow its use for any kind of mobile or fixed tracking and
telemetry stations, up to a final delivery of data over Ethernet.

3.1 General description
The RX-1 is dedicated to IRIG106 telemetry reception, supporting any type of IRIG 106 telemetry signal in
P-, C-IF, L-, S- and C-band (optional) with 2 channels. It is used for both high dynamics tracking and
telemetry. The implementation of 8 pre-selection SAW filters allows the RX-1 to have excellent adjacent
channel rejection, better AGC regulation and high dynamics (>90dB). One direct consequence is its
capacity to maintain auto-track of the tracking antenna much farther as the AGC and AM signals can be
retrieved at a lower SNR.
Not only the RX-1 features a choice of 30 IF filters (from 3kHz to 40MHz) but customized filters can also be
implemented by firmware upgrade to better fit the customer specific application. In addition to a high-
performance pre-D combiner (available in Frequency and Polarization diversity) and an outstanding
Enhanced Adaptive Equalizer for multipath mitigation (optional), the RX-1 features a TIER multi-mode
demodulator with trellis for each channel (PCM/FM, SOQPSK-TG, ARTM-CPM) with excellent
performances, in terms of locking threshold, BER, as well as very short (re)acquisition time following a
signal loss.
It also features real time spectrum and eye pattern display for all channels (while demodulating), and a
thorough set of inputs and outputs. Furthermore, The RX-1 incorporates the latest features from IRIG-106
as LDPC decoders (optional).
A special option on the RX-1 allows the pre-d combining of two IF 70MHz signals played back from the
Cortex RSR into the RX-1 along with their digital AGC signals. Finally, the RX-1 has the capacity to
distribute the TM data over Ethernet (TMoIP) with embedded time stamp. TM data is raw (ie non-
synchronized). The format is either a proprietary native ZDS format or as per IRIG 106 chapter 10
standards. Both are compatible with a large number of software-based telemetry processing software used
to process, extract and display the parameters.
