Sailrite®Edge Cordless Hotknife
The Sailrite Edge Cordless Hotknife is designed to separate and cut
lengths of rope, webbing, bands or synthetic fabrics and cords. Do not
use on natural bers like cotton or hemp. The hot cutting blade cuts
quickly and precisely and provides a clean, sealed edge. Always use with
an insular cutting surface like the Tempered Cutting Glass for Hotknife
(#121915, sold separately) or the included cutting foot.
Operation & Use
1. Loosen the top and bottom locking screws (while hotknife is cold).
2. Insert both legs of the cutting blade. Spread or squeeze the posts
slightly as required. (The t may be tight.) Push in fully and tighten
both screws.
3. Attach the battery pack into the hotknife body by sliding the lithium-
ion battery pack into the base of the tool body so that the gray
release lever is facing the cutting blade and an audible click can be
heard. This means the battery pack is secure.
4. Hold the spring-loaded safety button while toggling the trigger On/Off
to control the rate of cutting and to cycle the tool power. The cutting
blade does not need to be red hot at all times to cut through the
desired material.
5. Release the button and allow the cutting blade to cool down after use
and before changing it or putting the tool back in its case.
6. Clean the cutting blade with the enclosed wire brush once blade has
cooled down.
7. Remove the battery prior to storage. To remove the battery, press
down on the gray release lever located on the lithium-ion battery
pack and slide the battery out.
Inserting the Cutting Foot (Optional)
1. When the cutting blade is cool, loosen the bottom blade lock screw
using the hex key and insert the slotted end of the cutting foot
beneath the cutting blade. Position the foot so the blade is centered
halfway down into the opening, creating a scissorlike shape between
the cutting blade and the top of the foot. The cutting blade should not
touch the cutting foot on any side. The cutting blade can be gently
bent to t more centered within the cutting foot.
2. Insert the side locking screws (included with the cutting foot) and
then tighten all locking screws to hold the blade and foot in place
using the hex key. Improper blade installation will prevent the
hotknife from heating up.
Charging the Battery
This lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time and will not develop
a “memory effect” if it is recharged after partial battery use. Remove the
battery pack from the Edge Cordless Hotknife when the blade is cool.
To Charge the Battery
1. Connect the rechargeable battery to the supplied charger by sliding
the top of the lithium-ion battery pack into the prongs on the top
of the charger, so that the gray release lever is facing down (See
drawing below). Then plug the charger cord into an outlet.
2. There are two indicator lights on the front of the charger. When the
battery pack is securely attached to the charger, the light will turn
red. When the battery pack is fully charged, the light will turn green.
3. There are four indicator lights on each lithium-ion battery pack
that light up to indicate the battery charge level when the button
is pressed.
4. The indicator lights will taper down as the battery loses power while
you use the hotknife. So, 4 green indicator lights mean the battery
is fully charged and 1 indicator light means the power is very low.
5. An empty battery typically needs approximately 90 minutes for a
100% charge.

Tips for Use
We recommend doing a few trial cuts with scraps of the material you’ll be
cutting to see how it will perform. If smoke develops while you’re cutting,
you’re either cutting too slowly or the blade temperature is too hot. This
can lead to uneven or wide cuts. To avoid this, reduce the temperature of
the blade by toggling the On/Off trigger.

Additional Battery Safety Information
To ensure maximum battery life and best battery performance, always
charge the battery when the temperature is between 64-75°F (18-24°C).
Do not charge or store your battery in temperatures below 32°F (0°C) and
above 104°F (40°C).
Do not attempt to open the battery pack. If the plastic housing around the
battery pack breaks or exhibits any cracks, stop using the battery pack
immediately and do not charge it again. Dispose of the damaged battery
pack as you would hazardous waste.
Do not keep a spare battery in your pocket or store it in a toolbox. Make
sure that the poles of the battery do not come into contact with any metal
objects during transport. These objects can short and damage the battery
pack, as well as result in burns or a re.
When storing or disposing of the battery pack, tape over the poles using
thick insulating tape to prevent the battery from short-circuiting. Batteries
that are stored for a prolonged period of time become discharged.
Do not store or use the tool and the battery pack in areas where the
temperature reaches, or exceeds, 122°F (50°C). Do not expose the
battery to direct sunlight and do not use or leave it in a vehicle during
hot weather. This can result in the development of heat or the battery
exploding or igniting. This can also lead to reduced performance of the
battery and a shorter lifespan.
Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may
occur. If liquid comes in contact with your skin, wash immediately with
soap and water, then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar. If liquid gets
into your eyes, ush them with clean water for at least 10 minutes, then
seek immediate medical attention. Following this rule will reduce the risk
of serious personal injury.
If you intend to store a battery for a period without use, then store
battery at room temperature 64-75°F (18-24°C), charged to about
30-50% capacity (2-3 indicator lights). In case of extended periods of
storage, charge the battery once a year to avoid deep discharge. After
charging the battery pack, allow it to cool down. Charge the battery with
the supplied charger only. Only use the provided batteries with the Edge
Cordless Hotknife.
