1Overview
This Installation Manual guides you to install the Board Support Package (BSP) for Samsung’s SC32440A
running on Pocket PC Magneto Operating System.
The manual explains the following topics:
•Copying BSP and Building Image
•Opening Platform Builder for Windows Mobile 5.0
•Fusing PPC Image on Smart Media Card via Ethernet
oFusing Superipl Image
oFusing OS Image
A detailed explanation of each topic is explained in the following chapters.

2Copying BSP and Building Image
In this chapter, you can understand how to copy and build Samsung SC32440A Pocket PC Magneto BSP.
1. To start the BSP installation, copy Samsung S3C2440A BSP to X:\WM500\PLATFORM directory on
your host PC and then make sure that BSP directory name is SMDK2440. Also make sure that the
batch file in X:\WM500\PLATFORM\SMDK2440 directory has the same name as that of the BSP, i.e.
smdk2440.bat.
Note: If you want, you can use a different BSP directory name. But make sure that the batch file
has the same name as that of the BSP directory name.
2. To build the Pocket PC image on your host PC, click Start, point to All Programs, point to
Microsoft Platform Builder for Windows Mobile 5.0 and then click New Build Window Wizard.
The following window appears on your screen.

3. Type the path of Magneto OS i.e. X:\WM500 in the OS build tree (WINCEROOT): name box and
then click Next button.
4. The Configure Build Window Parameters window appears on your screen.
Select for BSP: smdk2440
Select for Release type: Retail
Select for Project type: PocketPC
Select for SKU: Premium
Click Clone button.

5. Clone BSP window appears on your screen.
Select for Source BSP: smdk2440
Enter for Destination BSP folder name: SMDK2440_PPC
Enter for Destination BSP display name: SMDK2440_PPC
Click OK button.

6. Click Next button. The Configure Output Options window appears on your screen. Click Finish
button.

7. The following window appears on your screen. Click Yes button.

9. The following shortcuts will be created in your desktop.
•Update Loader - WPC SMDK2440_PPC Retail
•Base OS - WPC SMDK2440_PPC Retail
•Build All - WPC SMDK2440_PPC Retail
10. Click Build All - WPC SMDK2440_PPC Retail if you are building image for the first time.
Note: If you have already built the image before, execute Base OS - WPC SMDK2440_PPC Retail,
followed by build –c, buildrel and makeimg commands to build the image again.

11. After completion of Build All command, following messages appears on your screen as shown in
figure 2-7. EBOOT.nb0,superipl.nb0 and flash.dio.nb0 will be generated in the
X:\WM500\release\WPC_SMDK2440_PPC_Retail directory.

3Opening Platform Builder for Windows Mobile 5.0
1. To start Platform Builder on your host PC, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft
Platform Builder for Windows Mobile 5.0 and then click Microsoft Platform Builder for Windows
Mobile 5.0. The following window appears on your screen.

2. On the File menu in the Platform Builder window, click Open Workspace… as shown in figure 3-2.

3. The Open Workspace window appears on your screen. Select superipl.nb0 file from
X:\WM500\release\WPC_SMDK2440_PPC_Retail directory and then click Open button.

4. In the Platform Builder window on your host PC, you can see the new platform as shown below.

4Fusing Pocket PC Image on SMC via Ethernet
In this chapter, you can understand how to fuse the superipl and OS image to the Smart Media Card.
4.1 Fusing superipl Image
1. Before you download the PPC Image through the Ethernet, you must have u241mon.bin image on
your AMD Flash. For more information check the Application note section 2.3 on our homepage.
2. Short pin numbers 1-2 for jumper J1 on the target board.
3. Please install the USB Driver and DNW application on your host PC.
4. After installing the USB driver, run dnw.exe on the host PC. The following window appears on your
screen.

5. On the Configuration menu, click Options to set the UART/USB options. The following window
appears on your screen. Select Baud Rate and COM Port as shown in figure 4-2, enter the download
address as 0x30038000 and then click OK button.

6. On the Serial Port menu, click Connect. Switch ON the reference board. The DNW window appears
as shown in figure 4-3.

7. On the USB Port menu, click Transmit and the following window appears on your screen. Select
EBOOT.nb0 file from X:\WM500\release\WPC_SMDK2440_PPC_Retail directory and then click
Open button.

8. As soon as EBOOT.nb0 download is over, the following messages appear in the DNW window.
