While this document contains all the steps required, other information may be required during the process. Please visit the Savant Customer Community for

3.!Front and Rear Panel Descriptions
Each of the ports and LEDs on the front and rear panels are described below.
3.1.!SmartMedia 6 (SSP-0600)
Standby
Power (hole)
Insert pin into hole and hold for 5 seconds
while powered-on to place the controller in
or out of Standby mode.

Green: Has adequate power and operating
normally.
Red: In Standby mode.
Off:

ot receiving power.
Status LED
Green: Operating normally.
Green Flashing: Was assigned an IP Address and is connecting to the Host.
Off: System is rebooting.
Red: Firmware update has failed and the system will be rebooted.
Red Flashing: No IP Address assigned. Trying to connect to the local network.
Amber: Firmware update in process.
Amber Flashing: Has a link-local IP Address and is connecting to the Host. This applies to controllers that are not connected to an active
router and may be connected directly to a Host.
Hardware Failure
Status LED indication will be interrupted every three seconds with a solid Red indication. For example, if the LED is flashing Green when a
hardware failure occurs, the LED will flash Green, solid Red, etc., in three second intervals.
Video LED
Off: HDCP keys received are valid. Encrypted video content remains protected.
Red Flashing: HDCP keys are invalid. Encrypted video content is unprotected. Video may still be present as this state only indicates that the
HDCP sync has been lost.
Fan LED
Green:Fans are running.
Off:Fans are Off.
Video Port

4.!Module Installation and Removal (Audio/Video Cards)
4.1.!Module Placement
The modules (audio and video service cards) are installed into the back panel of either the SSP-0600 or SSP-1200 chassis service. Where the modules are
installed are dependent on whether it is an input or output module.

4.2.!Module Installation and Removal Precautions
The modules (audio and video cards) can be installed either before or after installing chassis into a rack system. Because it is sometimes difficult to get to
the rear panel, Savant recommends installing the modules before installing into a rack system. Follow the steps below to install the modules into an SSP-
0600or SSP-1200 chassis.
ESD DISCHARGE PRECAUTIONS:When handling modules, observe the following
precautions to avoid damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD).
!!Use an approved ESD wrist or ankle-grounding strap. Ensure the grounding strap
makes good skin contact.
!!Connect the clip end of the ground strap to a threaded grounding stud on the chassis.
!!When returning a replaced module to Savant, place the module in either the clamshell
package in which it was originally shipped in or in a static shielding bag.
ELECTRIC DISCONNECT! Before replacing modules, ensure power to the SSP-0600 and SSP-1200 has been switched off and the power cord
removed. Failure to do so may cause damage to the equipment.
To power-off the chassis, toggle the power switch on the rear of the chassis to Off (O).
4.3.!Module Installation
Refer to the Module Installation and Removal precautions section above before beginning the removal or installation process. The instructions below
describe how to install a module into a slot in a new chassis. In this process, there aren’t any modules already installed in the chassis.
1.!Power Off the SmartMediaPro Chassis using the power switch located on the rear of the chassis and disconnect the AC power cord.
2.!Remove the two (2) M3 x 6 mm retaining screws and remove module slot cover. Set screws aside as they will be used later in procedure.
3.!Align the module board with the two rails located at the bottom of the opening and gently slide the module all the way until a slight resistance is felt.
This is where the connector on the rear of the board gets seated into the chassis connector.
4.!Gently press on the module the rest of the way until it seats into the connector at the rear of the slot and the plate seats against the chassis.
5.!Insert the screws removed in step 2 and tighten. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN
6.!Make note of the slot the module was installed as it will be needed for Blueprint configuration.

4.4.!Module Removal
Refer to the Module Installation and Removal precautions section above before beginning the removal or installation process. The instructions below
describe how to remove a module from a slot in a chassis.
1.!Power Off the SmartMediaPro Chassis using the power switch located on the rear of the chassis and disconnect the AC power cord.
2.!Remove the two (2) M3 x 6 mm retaining screws and remove module slot cover. Set screws aside as they will be used later in procedure.
Note: For the next few steps, refer to the image below
3.!Insert the removal tool into the removal tool slot.
!!Vertical Slots: When the slot in the module is vertically oriented,
face the notch in the tool downward and insert the tool into the
slot in the module faceplate.
!!Horizontal Slots: When the slot in the module is horizontally
oriented, face the notch in the tool to the left or the right.
4.!Hook the tool onto the faceplate.
!!Vertical Slots: Lower the tip of the tool downward and with slight
outward pressure, pull the module outward. A slight resistance
will be felt as the module is unseated from the chassis side of the
connector.
!!Horizontal Slots: Move the tool to the left or the right and with
slight outward pressure, pull the module outward. A slight
resistance will be felt as the module is unseated from the chassis
side of the connector.
5.!Slide module out until it is completely removed from chassis.
6.!If the module is being replaced, refer to the Module Installation instructions for proper installation procedure.
IMPORTANT! If the module is not being replaced, install a blank plate using the two (2) M3 x 6 mm screws removed in step 2. This will ensure that
proper airflow through the chassis is retained as well as preventing dust and debris from entering the chassis.

5.!Rack Installation
Follow instructions below to install the SSP-0600 or SSP-1200 chassis into a standard 19 inch arck system. The mounting brackets supplied with the system are
compatible with all standard National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) compliant rack systems.
SSP-0600
Install the (2) brackets supplied with the SSP-0600 chassis using the supplied
hardware.

Install the (2) brackets supplied with the SSP-1200 chassis using the supplied
hardware.

HELPFUL INFORMATION! The image above shows the SSP-1200 chassis. The
install process on the SSP-0600 is similar but uses (4) mounting screws and a
smaller bracket (supplied with system)
6.!Ethernet Connection
The SmartMediaPro communicates with the Host via a wired Ethernet connection.
1.!Connect RJ-45 (STRAIGHT THRU) cable between the Ethernet connection on the back panel of either the SSP-0600 or SSP-1200.
2.!When ready to power the system on and assign an IP Address, Appendix A: Network Requirements section has information on this. Before assigneing the IP
Address, the Control Ports must be wired. Continue to the next section (Control Port Connections) for information on this.

7.2.!IR Port Connections
IR connections are made using 6-Pin Screw Down Plug-in connectors supplied. The wire slips into the hole and locks with a screw located at the top of the
connector. The IR port connections below pertain to both the SSP-0600 and SSP-1200 SmartMediaPro Chassis.
IMPORTANT! IR Wiring Precautions
!!Ensure that all IR emitters are within 15 feet (4.6 meters) from the controller’s location.
!!Use of 3rd party flashing IR emitters with Talk Back is not recommended. These types of
emitters can draw voltage away from the IR signal that can degrade IR performance.
Note: While not shown in the diagram, IR
connections 4 to 6 follow the same wiring

7.4.!GPIO Port Connections
General Purpose Input/Outputs (GPIO) are binary I/O ports used on Savant controllers to trigger an action within the system. Events can control a device,
such as turning on an amplifier (output) or detecting a state change for a device (input) to perform a workflow. Pins 2-8 are used for input or output
depending on the configuration. The GPIO port connections below pertain to both the SSP-0600 and SSP-1200 SmartMediaPro Chassis.
7.5.!HDMI Port Connections
The SmartMediaPro Matrix contains two Host HDMI inputs that can be used for streaming iTunes media from a Pro Host. Connection to the chassis varies
based on the Host model being used.
TIP! Starting in da Vinci release 8.1, support for streaming iTunes through the SSP-0600 and SSP-1200 chassis was discontinued. Streaming iTunes is no
longer supported in releases 8.1 and higher.
If streaming iTunes from the Host, it must be configured in RacePoint Blueprint. Refer to Adding a Connection to Stream iTunes section for information on
this. Additional information can also be obtained from the Savant Pro Host (SVR-4500x, SVR-5000S) Deployment Guide located on the Savant Customer
Community.

7.6.!AC Power Connection
When connecting power to the SSP-0600 or SSP-1200 chassis, the following warnings and best practices are recommended:
SURGE PROTECTION - Use a surge-protected circuit for all components and power supplies requiring 100-240V AC 50/60 Hz source power.
ELECTRICAL DISCONNECT - The source power outlet and power supply input power sockets should be easily accessible to disconnect power in the
event of an electrical hazard or malfunction.
POWER MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATION
Savant recommends a pure sine wave uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with the ability to shut down the Savant Host before the battery runs out of
power. Never remove power from the Savant Host before shutting it down.

8.!RacePoint Blueprint Configuration
8.1.!Basic Layout
A basic configuration for the SmartMediaPro Controller contains the following components. While other items can be added to the configuration, these
items are the typical components that are used in a system.
!!SmartMediaPro chassis (SSP-0600 | SSP-1200 | SSP-1200R)
!!Media sources (SavantMedia Server, Apple TV, etc.)
!!Amplifiers for audio distribution
!!HDTV displays
!!Speakers

8.2.!Add SmartMedia Controller
The instructions below assume a Blueprint configuration already exists and all rooms have been created. How to add and configure the SmartMediaPro
chassis is described below.
1.!Open the configuration into RacePoint Blueprint.
2.!Select Show Library icon from the RacePoint
Blueprint toolbar and the Components library will
open.
3.!Enter SmartMedia Pro into the search bar.
4.!Select, drag, and drop the SmartMedia Pro chassis
into the Shared Equipment zone layout window.
5.!In the pop-up window either accept the unique name
automatically populated or enter a new name that
describes the equipment. Select Choose.
HELPFUL INFORMATION! The SmartMedia Pro chassis
must be placed into a Shared Equipment (Golbal)
for all zones to have access to this product.
6.!Double-click the SmartMediaPro chassis to open the
Inspector.
HELPFUL INFORMATION! The Inspector can also be
opened by highlighting the SmartMedia Chassis and
selecting Show Inspector icon from the Blueprint
toolbar.
7.!Enter the UID for the SmartMediaPro chassis into the
UID field of the Inspector.

8.3.!Add Modules (Service Cards)
Withn the chassis placed in the configuration, any modules (service cards) installed can be configured.
1.!With the Inspector open, select Slots from
the Show: drop-down list. This will open a
side table displaying all input and output
cards.
2.!Scroll up or down and find the appropiate
module (service card).
3.!Drag and drop the selected card into an
open input or output slot
4.!Repeat step 3 until all modules required
are placed in the appropriate input or
output slot.
