ALL SWIFTS
CLAMPING THE SWIFT TO A TABLE
■Loosen the clamp t-knob and the nut
on the long screw to open the wood clamp
enough so that it can t under the table
edge.
■Slide the swift onto the table edge.
■Tighten the nut until the wood clamp
is level.
■Tighten the clamp t-knob to secure the
swift.
■To remove the swift, loosen the t-knob
and slide the swift off.
■If you later put the swift on the same
surface, you should not need to adjust the
nut.
USING THE SWIFT
■Place a skein over the swift.
■Unscrew the t-knob on the top of the
swift, and guide the swift down to open.
■Tighten the t-knob when the swift has
opened as far as desired.
■Use the straight handle on the top to
turn the swift if needed.
TILTING THE SWIFT
■Pull on the lock ring on the right side of
the swift until the ring is past the post. The
lock ring does not come out of the base.
■Tilt the swift toward you until the main
shaft is parallel to the ground.
■Release the lock ring. Make sure it
goes all the way into the base.
■To put the swift in the upright position,
pull on the lock ring and tilt the swift up.
CLOSING THE SWIFT
■Unscrew the t-knob on top of the swift,
and pull up.
■Tighten the t-knob to secure.
SWIFTS WITH
COUNTERS
USING THE COUNTER
■Set the counter to zero by turning the
knob toward the top of the counter (see
drawing below).
■Turn the knob until the counter
reaches all zeros.
■Turn the swift clockwise to count up.
■Turn the swift counter-clockwise to
count down.
■The counter counts revolutions of
the swift. You will need to measure the
circumference of the skein and multiply
by the number on the counter to get the
length of the skein. The calculated length
will not be exact as the length of each
wrap of yarn in the skein will vary.
■You may nd it helpful to use a pre-
measured string to open the swift to a
specic circumference.
REPLACING THE COUNTER DRIVE
BAND
■Fold the swift completely and make
sure the lock ring is engaged.
■If you have a drive band on the counter
pulleys, cut it or pull it off the pulleys and
let it hang loosely.
■Using a marker, make a small line on
the main shaft and onto the top of the
base. You will use this line later to align
the shaft and base.
■Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen
the four screws on the right side of the
base (see picture at left), and unscrew
them about 1/4".
■Loosen the screw holding the main
shaft (see picture at left) and unscrew it
about 3/4".
■To separate the base halves, gently tap
the heads of the screws as if you were
