This manual is designed to assist you with the operation of Sechrist Industries Gurney/Stretchers. Read it thoroughly
before using the equipment or beginning any maintenance on it.

The Sechrist Gurney/Stretchers are accessories of Sechrist Hyperbaric Chambers. They are intended to beused only
to move patients into and out of a chamber, and are not for general transport.
Before operating these stretchers, it is important to read and understand all information in this manual. Care-fully read
and strictly follow the warnings listed on this page
WARNINGS
The stretcher release latch must be locked in place to prevent movement of the stretcher when patients areloaded•
or unloaded from the stretcher.
Be sure to move any equipment that may be in the way before raising or lowering the stretcher height.•
Always apply the caster brakes when a patient is getting on or off the stretcher. Push on the gurney to ensurethe•
brakes are securely locked. Always engage the brakes unless the gurney is being moved. Injury couldresult if the
gurney moves while a patient is getting on or off the stretcher. If brakes do not hold properly, referto your gurney
maintenance manual for a brake adjustment procedure.
Be sure the siderail latching mechanism (on gurney P/N’s 21502, 21464, 21266, 21465) is working properlyat all•
times.
Do not allow the siderail to lower on its own.•
The push handles should always be used when transporting patients. They were installed for this purposefor user•
convenience. Avoid using other parts of the stretcher as push devices. Damage may occur.
The weight of the I.V. bags should not exceed 40 pounds (18 kg.).•
Do not expose the stretcher mattress to flame or other ignition sources. Exposure to ignition sources maycause the•
mattress to ignite, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.

RAISING/LOWERING STRETCHER HEIGHT: HYDRAULIC GURNEYS - P/N 21465, 21266
CAUTION
Be sure to move any equipment that may be in the way before raising or lowering the stretcher height.
To raise the stretcher height, pump pedal (A) repeatedly until the desired height is achieved (see illustrationon page 4).
To lower the litter height, depress pedal (B).
The Sechrist Hydraulic Gurney assembly employs a stop mechanism that automatically aligns the stretcherrails with the
chamber rails. The stop mechanism can be defeated, allowing the stretcher to lower approxi-mately 3.5 inches lower to
allow for easier patient transfer onto the stretcher.
Depress pedal (A) 3 times to raise the stretcher. Push and hold the knob and depress pedal (B) to lowerthe1.
stretcher/gurney.
To return to correct chamber/gurney height alignment, depress pedal (A) 8 times, verify the knob has re-turned to2.
the original position and depress pedal (B) to lower the stretcher to chamber height.
APPLYING THE BRAKE SYSTEM
Note
For user convenience, the brake/steer pedal is located on both ends of the gurney.
WARNING
Always apply the caster brakes when a patient is getting on or off the gurney. Push on the gurney to ensurethe brakes
are securely locked. Always engage the brakes unless the gurney is being moved. Injury couldresult if the gurney
moves while a patient is getting on or off the gurney. If brakes do not hold properly, referto the maintenance manual for
a brake adjustment procedure.
To engage the brakes on the head end, push fully down on the left side of pedal (E or A) (see page 4 or 5).
To engage the brakes on the foot end, push fully down on the right side of pedal (D or B) (see page 4 or 5).
OPERATING THE 5TH WHEEL
The purpose of the 5th wheel is to help guide the gurney when transporting a patient along a straight line andalso for
pivoting at corners.T
he 5th wheel is located underneath the center of the base assembly.
To engage the 5th wheel, push the proper side of the brake/steer pedal to the full down position.

USING SIDERAILS: GURNEY - P/N 21464, 21465, 21502, 21266
CAUTION
Be sure the siderail latching mechanism (A) is working properly at all times. If it is not, refer to the maintenance manual
for ”Siderail Latch Adjustment”.
To engage siderails: Pull up siderail (B) and raise to full up position so that latch (B) engages. (See illustration).
To disengage siderails: Pull up on latch (A) and guide siderail to the full down position.
CAUTION
To avoid injury or damage to the equipment, do not allow the siderail to lower on its own.
USING PUSH HANDLES
CAUTION
The push handles were designed for use while transporting the gurney. Avoid using other parts of the gurney/stretcher
as push/pull devices because damage could occur.
To use the push handles: Pivot the handles up and push down until they are locked into position.
To store the push handles: Lift the handles up and pivot them down to store in the handle rests.

USING THE HBO SLIDING STRETCHER
To slide the stretcher into the Monoplace Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber (HBO) Chamber:
Align the stretcher rails with the Sechrist HBO Chamber rail sockets and apply the gurney base brakes. (Refer to1.
the Sechrist HBO Chamber User’s Manual).
Lift up the Stretcher Release Latch located at the head end of the stretcher.2.
Push the stretcher into the Chamber opening. The stretcher will slide off the stretcher rails onto the HBO Chamber3.
rails inside the Chamber. When the stretcher is completely pushed into the Chamber, you will hear the latch lock
into place.
Verify the litter is completely inside the Chamber and locked into place. Release the gurney base brakes, move4.
aside the gurney base and close the Chamber door.
To remove the stretcher from the HBO Chamber:
Open the Chamber door. Align the gurney base with the opening of the Chamber and apply the base brakes.1.
Lift up on the Stretcher Release Latch at the opening of the Chamber.2.
Pull the stretcher out of the Chamber and onto the gurney base. When the stretcher is completely onto the base,3.
you will hear the latch lock into place.
Verify the stretcher is securely locked into place before releasing the base brakes and moving the gurney.4.
USING THE BUILT-IN HEADREST (WITH DELUXE WIDE STRETCHER P/N 21464 & 21465)
The black knobs at the end of the stretcher lock and unlock the headrest mechanism.
To raise the headrest to one of 14 different angles (maximum 17 inch (43.2 cm.) height / 30 angle): Grasp both knobs
and lift up to engage the locking mechanism at the desired position.
To lower the headrest: Simultaneously turn the right knob clockwise and the left knob counterclockwise to unlock the
mechanism and lower the headrest.
USING THE I.V. POLE
A removable I.V. pole is stored in clips on the base of the gurney.
Insert the I.V. pole into one of the receptacles at the head or foot end of the gurney.
Turn the black knob counterclockwise, grasp the top section of the pole and raise or lower it to the desired height.
Turn the black knob clockwise and tighten it until the top section of the pole is held securely in place.
CAUTION
The weight of the I.V. bags should not exceed 40 pounds (18 kg).

Hand wash all surfaces of the stretcher with warm water and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly. DO NOTSTEAM CLEAN,
PRESSURE WASH, HOSE OFF OR ULTRASONICALLY CLEAN. Using these methodsof cleaning is not recommended
and may void this product’s warranty.
In general, when used in those concentrations recommended by the manufacturer, either phenolic type orquaternary type
disinfectants can be used. Iodophor type disinfectants are not recommended for use be-cause staining may result. The
following products have been tested by the Herculite Laboratory and havebeen found not to have a harmful effect WHEN
USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURERS REC-OMMENDED DILUTION.*

Quaternary Germicidal Disinfectants, used as directed, and/or Chlorine Bleach products, typically 5.25% So-dium
Hypochlorite in dilutions ranging between 1 part bleach to 100 parts water, and 2 parts bleach to 100parts water are not
considered mild detergents. These products are corrosive in nature and may cause dam-age to your gurney if used im-
properly. If these types of products are used to clean patient handling equipment,measures must be taken to insure the
stretchers are rinsed with clean water and thoroughly dried followingcleaning. Failure to properly rinse and dry the gur-
neys will leave a corrosive residue on the surface of thestretcher, possibly causing premature corrosion of critical com-
ponents. Failure to follow the above directionswhen using these types of cleaners may void this product’s warranty.
REMOVAL OF IODINE COMPOUNDS
This solution may be used to remove iodine stains from mattress cover surfaces.
Use a solution of 1−2 tablespoons Sodium Thiosulfate in a pint of warm water to clean the stained area.Clean as1.
soon as possible after staining occurs. If stains are not immediately removed, allow solution tosoak or stand on the
surface.
Rinse surfaces which have been exposed to the solution in clear water before returning bed to service.2.

Warranty
SECHRIST INDUSTRIES, INC. warrants this product to meet the published specifications and to
be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for a period of one (1) year
from the date of original installation. THE FOREGOING IS IN LIEU OF ANY OTHER WAR¬RANTY,
EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY WARRANTY OF
MERCHANTABILITY. The sole liability of SECHRIST under this warranty is limited to replacing,
repairing, or issuing credit at the discretion of SECHRIST for the products, equipment or parts which
fail to meet the published specifications or which be¬come defective during the warranty period
and which are upon examination by SECHRIST found not to meet the published specifications or to
be defective in material or workman¬ship. SECHRIST will not be liable under this warranty unless
the following provisions are strictly complied with: (a) SECHRIST is promptly notified, in writing,
upon discovery of the failure of said product or equipment to meet the published specifications
or of defects in ma¬terial or workmanship, (b) the defective product, equipment or part thereof
is returned to SE¬CHRIST, transportation charges prepaid by the buyer, (c) the defective part is
received by SECHRIST for examination no later than one (1) month following the expiration of
the war¬ranty period and provided (d) that examination by SECHRIST of said product, equipment
or part shall disclose to SECHRIST’S satisfaction that such defect has not been caused by
improper usage, accident, neglect, alteration, abuse, improper installation or unauthorized repair.
Products, equipment or parts replaced under this warranty are warranted only through the terms
of the original warranty. SECHRIST neither assumes nor authorizes any other person or entity to
assume for it any other warranty, obligation or liability in connec-tion with its products or equipment
whatsoever, and this warranty can only be changed in writing by a duly authorized representative
of SECHRIST. SECHRIST makes no represen¬tations or warranties whatsoever as to the fitness or
usefulness of the products or equip¬ment manufactured by it for any medical treatment, physical
condition or other purpose whatsoever. In no event shall SECHRIST be liable for personal injury,
property damage or any special or consequential damage to any buyer, user or any other person
whomsoever, including, but not limited to, loss of profits, loss of use of the product or equipment,
or for damages of any other kind whatsoever based on a claim for breach of warranty other than a
refund of the purchase price of any defective product or equipment. Any authorization for repair or
alteration by buyer must be in writing from SECHRIST to prevent the voiding of this warranty. In the
event SECHRIST or its representatives render any technical advice or service of any kind to buyer
or anyone else in connection with the equipment or products covered by this warranty, the buyer
hereby releases SECHRIST from all liability of any kind whatsoever as a result thereof; and the
warranty as hereinbefore set forth shall not be enlarged or affected by said action by SECHRIST.
