To avoid electric shock when you use this system:
Use only the AC adapter that comes with your system.
Do not use the AC adapter if it has damaged, split or broken cords or wires.
Make sure that the AC adapter cord is fully inserted into the wall outlet or

Make sure the Nintendo GameCube power switch is turned OFF before removing

CONTROLLER NEUTRAL POSITION RESET
If the L or R Buttons are pressed or the Control Stick or C Stick are moved out of
neutral position when the power is turned ON, those positions will be set as the
neutral position, causing incorrect game control during game play.
To reset the controller, release all buttons
and sticks to allow them to return to the
correct neutral position, then hold down the
X, Y and START/PAUSE Buttons
simultaneously for 3 seconds.

SETTING UP
HARDWARE SETUP
Home Run KING™ is a one to two player game.
Connect the Ninten o GameCube™ Controller to
either Controller Socket 1 or 2. The game cannot
be controlle by the controller connecte to
Controller Socket 3 or 4.
This software is compatible with progressive scan vi eo output, using
the Component Vi eo Cable (sol separately). Please refer to the
instruction manual of Ninten o GameCube™ for the irection on how
to connect.
1Connect your TV set an Ninten o GameCube™ with Component
Vi eo Cable.
2Place the Home Run KING™ isc insi e the GameCube, close the
Disc Cover, an press the POWER Button.
3After the Ninten o GameCube™ logo is isplaye , press an hol
the B Button.
4You will be aske whether to isplay in Progressive Mo e. Select “Yes”
an the game will be isplaye with Progressive Scan output.
Once the Progressive Mo e is selecte , unless the vi eo cable is
change , the Display Mo e Select screen will be isplaye each time
the power is turne on, without pressing the B Button. Also, epen ing
on the type of television set you are using, the horizontal/vertical ratio of
the screen may be change .
USING PROGRESSIVE SCAN TV
SAVE FILES
Home Run KING™ is a Memory Car compatible game [Ninten o
GameCube™ Memory Car sol separately]. 34 blocks are nee e to
save game files.
To use the Memory Car , it must be inserte into Memory Car Slot A.
The Memory Car inserte into Memory Car Slot B will not be recog-
nize . When you press the START/PAUSE uring the title screen, the game
will automatically rea the game ata from the Memory Car . If no
Memory Car was foun in the Memory Car Slot A, a warning mes-
sage will be isplaye . Insert the Memory Car an select RETRY, or con-
tinue without the game being save .
Never turn OFF the Ninten o GameCube™ power or remove the
Memory Car while the game ata is being save or loa e .

How to Pitch
First, you must select the type of pitch to throw. A
Pitch Type Selector will be isplaye insi e the
strike zone. The irections on the bar on the Pitch
Type Selector in icate the types of pitches the
pitcher can throw (the iagram to the right is for
right-han e pitchers; for left-han e pitchers, left
an right are reverse ), an the length of each
graph in icates its effectiveness. Press the Control
Stick in the irection of the bar to select the type
of pitch.
Picking Off the Runner
After the pitcher comes set (after you have selecte
the type of pitch to throw), press the B Button
simultaneously an the Control Stick to the selecte
base (p.8) to pick-off base runners.
Once the pitch has been ma e, if a base runner
attempts to steal a base, you can control the
catcher an throw the ball similar to any fiel er
(see FIELDING on p.8).

Shifting Fielding Positions
Before throwing a pitch, you can or er the fiel ers
to shift their fiel ing positions. Press the L Button to
shift the infiel ers, an R Button to shift the outfiel ers.
The selecte fiel ing position will be isplaye briefly
insi e the Fiel Map.

HOW TO PLA
Next, press the A, X or Y Button to begin the pitching
elivery. The Pitch Type Selector will be replace
by the Batting Cursor an the Timing Gauge will
appear next to the pitcher. Press the A, X or Y
Button at the right moment for better control, veloc-
ity an movement on the ball. Use the Control Stick
to select the location of the pitch, just before
releasing the ball.

You can pre ict the type of pitch the pitcher may
throw by selecting from the Pitch Type Selector,
just as if you were pitching.
Bunting
As soon as the pitcher starts his elivery, press an
hol the B Button to show bunt. As the pitcher
releases the ball, use the Control Stick to move the
Batting Cursor to where the ball is being pitche .
You can cancel the bunt by releasing the B Button.
BATTING AND BUNTING
When the pitcher releases the ball, a batting cursor,
with a shape reflecting the pitch you pre icte ,
appears. Use the Control Stick to move the batting
cursor to where the ball is being pitche an press
the A, X or Y Button to hit the ball. (A for normal
swing, X to make contact, Y to hit with power).
FIELDING

Change the fielder to control; run to selected base
If the ball is hit, use the Control Stick to chase after
the ball. Press the B Button to change the fiel er to
control if you feel that another fiel er is in a better
position to catch the ball. You can also press the A
Button to make a super play, such as iving for the
ball.
When the ball is hit into the air, a ball icon will be
isplaye on the groun to in icate where it will
lan . Use this as a gui e to chase an catch fly
balls or line rives.
When the fiel er has the ball, select the estination
base an press the A Button to throw the ball, or
press the B Button to run towar s the selecte base.
You can also simply use the Control Stick to move
the fiel er with the ball in any irection.
SELECTING A DESTINATION BASE
Whether you’re fiel ing or running the bases, you
will nee to select a base to make the next play.
Use the Control Stick/+ Control Pa to select the
base (pressing simultaneously with the approp-
riate button for your action). The iagram to the
right shows the irection of the Control Stick/+
Control Pa an the correspon ing bases. If you’re
fiel ing the ball, you will either throw the ball to or
run towar s the estination base. If you’re running
the bases, you will or er the base runner to
a vance to or return to the estination base.

BATTING CURSOR
When you swing the bat, if the ball is within the
area of the Batting Cursor, you will hit the ball. The
pitcher has ifferent kin s of pitches, an the bat-
ter must swing the bat in a manner that is suite
for specific pitches. When you pre ict the pitch,
the Batting Cursor changes shape for a better
chance of hitting the pre icte type of pitch.
If the pre icte pitch is correct, the color of the
Batting Cursor turns re . If you’re the batter, this is
your big chance. If you’re the pitcher, look out!

During the game, press START/PAUSE to pause the
game. You have the option to QUIT GAME or to
CANCEL (resume the game). You can also resume
the game by pressing START/PAUSE again. During
the Pitching/Batting screen, however, you have
a itional functions in the Pause Menu. Depen ing
on the situation, some menu items may be isable .

Stealing
While you’re at bat, you can or er the base runner
(if any) to increase/ ecrease his lea or steal. Use
the + Control Pa to select the base runner, an
press the L Button (but not all the way in) to increase
his lea . Likewise, press the R Button to ecrease his
lea . As soon as the pitcher starts his elivery, click
the L Button all the way to attempt a steal.
Base Running
After the batter hits the ball, the base runner auto-
matically runs the bases. You can also or er the base
runner to a vance or return to a base manually.
Select a estination base an press the L Button
to a vance the runner, or the R Button to return
the runner. If no base is selecte , all runners will
a vance or return.

During the Manual Replay, you can manually pause
an move the camera. Use the Control Stick/+
Control Pa to move the camera (cursor—center
of attention), C Stick to rotate the camera aroun
the cursor, an X/Y Button to zoom the camera
in/out. Press the A Button to play the replay (press
again to pause replay), L Button to rewin replay,
an R Button to fast forwar replay. When you are
one with the replay, press START/PAUSE. Note also
that when you move the cursor close to any man
(player or umpire) or even to the ball on the fiel ,
the camera will lock onto him/it, following his/its
actions uring the play.

SELECTING STARTING LINEUPS
Before the actual ballgame starts, you will be
aske to set the Starting Lineup, beginning with
the Starting Pitcher. Use either the Control Stick
or the + Control Pa to select the Starting
Pitcher of the roa (left) team, C Stick to select
the Starting Pitcher of the home (right) team,
an press the A Button.
Next, you will be aske to select the Starting
Lineup. Select a player an press the A Button
to highlight his name. Select another player
from the Starting Lineup to switch the batting
or er between the two, or select a player from
the reserve list to replace a player. Select OK to
start the ballgame.
Note: The batting or er of the pitcher can be
change , but he cannot be replace by a
player from the reserve list.
CHANGE PLAYER
Select this option from the Pause Menu uring
the ballgame. You can substitute a pinch hitter/
runner if you’re batting, or make a efensive
change if you’re in the fiel . When selecte , a
iamon with players you can change will be
isplaye (batter an base runners if you’re
batting; pitcher an fiel ers if you’re in the
fiel ). Select the player to change an press
the A Button. A list of reserve players will be is-
playe . Select the player to substitute an press
the A Button to make the switch.
Note: The pitcher must face at least one batter
before he can be relieve . Once the pitcher is
change , the new pitcher cannot be replace
until either the batter he is facing is retire or
gets on base, or you pick the runner off to en
the inning.
POSITION CHANGE
Select this from the Pause Menu uring the ball-
game. You can change the positions of the
fiel ers (except the pitcher). When the iagram
of the playing fiel is isplaye , select a player
to highlight his name. Select another player to
switch positions between the two.
STAMINA METER
A green gauge isplaye un er each player’s
name in icates his stamina. If the gauge is full,
he is very effective. If the gauge is short, he is
getting tire an losing his effectiveness. Pay
attention to the Stamina Meter when you select
any player(s).
Play an Exhibition game against the CPU, or against another player.
When you select the EXHIBITION mo e, the Settings
screen will be isplaye . Select the menu item an
make appropriate changes for each setting. Select
PLAY when you are rea y to play.
SETTINGS—EXHIBITION MODE
TEAM . . . . . . . . . . . . Select two teams out of 30 Major League teams
an American League/National League All-Star
teams to play in the game. Use the C Stick to select
the home team, an the Control Stick/+ Control

score is tie after the selecte number of innings.

When the Menu screen of the SEASON/PLAYOFFS
mo e is isplaye , select NEW SEASON/NEW PLAY-
OFFS to start from the beginning, CONTINUE to
loa the previously save ata an resume play,
RECORDS to view Champion Rings you collecte
(see Champion Rings of RECORDS in OPTIONS,
p.31), or EXIT to return to the Main Menu screen.
If NEW SEASON/NEW PLAYOFFS is selecte , you will
then set up the game settings. Select PLAY when
you are rea y.
SETTINGS
In SEASON Mo e, you will choose one of the 30 Major League teams
an play through an entire season with a chance to take your team to
the playoffs an , ultimately. the Worl Series®. In PLAYOFFS Mo e, you
will only play the Playoffs. The flows of both mo es are similar, so they
will be explaine together here.
STARTING THE MODE
Selection of the team to be use iffers
between the two mo es. In SEASON mo e, the
team is selecte by selecting TEAM from the
Settings menu. With PLAYOFFS mo e, however,
the team is selecte after you select PLAY from
the Settings menu.
In PLAYOFFS mo e, after you select PLAY, the
game will start the simulation of the regular
season, picking the Division Champions an
the Wil Car Teams (8 teams in all). Next, a
Playoff Tree will be isplaye . If you are starting
with the League Championship Series, the game
will also simulate the Division Series, narrowing
the selections to 4 teams. Likewise, if you are
playing the Worl Series®only, the game will
then simulate the League Championship Series.
As soon as all simulations are complete , select
the team to use from the available selections.
SELECTING A TEAM
SEASON/PLA OFFS 1 PLA ER
If you select QUICK START mo e, you cannot
change any settings. The efault parameters set
in OPTIONS (p.29) will be use , an the CPU will
ran omly select two teams for play.
Note: Although the teams are selecte ran omly,
the same team will not be selecte for both 1P an
2P si es. Also, All-Star teams will not be selecte .
The game will be playe in the home team’s ball-
park. If the home team is from the American
League, the Designate Hitter rule will be in effect.
Conversely, if the home team is from the National
League, the pitchers will hit. The ace of the pitching
staff will automatically be selecte as the starting
pitcher, an the teams’ efault lineups will be
selecte automatically.
QUICK START
At the en of the game, your performance in the
game is evaluate , an you are given points
base on the evaluation. If your points are either
among the top 10 or the best ever using the selecte
team, you can enter your initials on the Recor s Screen.
SELECT THE TEAM TO CONTROL
Select the team you are going to control. For each
Ninten o GameCube™ Controller, use the Control
Stick/+ Control Pa /C Stick 46 to move the con-
troller icon to select a team: home team (right) or
roa team (left). Note that both players cannot
select the same team. The team not selecte will
be controlle by the CPU. If no team is selecte ,
the CPU will play against another CPU opponent.
When everything is set, press either START/PAUSE or
the A Button to play ball.

the Control Stick/+ Control Pa 82 to select the
menu item, an press either START/PAUSE or the A
Button to enter.
Select to have the CPU play all sche ule games
for the ay.
If your team is sche ule to play, the result of your
team’s game will be isplaye .
Select Result of Other Games to view scores of
other games playe on this ay (this will be is-
playe automatically if your team i not play on
this ay).

The game is playe in three roun s ( epen ing on
the number of batters, the game may start from the
Semi-Final or the Championship Roun ). Each batter
continues to hit the ball until he makes the pre-
selecte number of outs (misses).
RULES
The selecte batters will compete against their
rivals. Four hitters (regar less of League affiliation)
with the highest number of home runs a vance to
the Semi-Finals.
Tiebreaker
Shoul there be a tie among the players for
a vancement to the Semi-Finals, the following tie-
breakers will be use :
• Player with the most home runs in the 2001 season.
•Player with the longest istance in the First Roun .
FIRST ROUND
On each batter’s turn, select ADVANCE to hit the
ball yourself (or CPU if it was assigne for the cur-
rent batter). Select SIMULATE to let the CPU simu-
late the turn without the batting scene. Select QUIT
to en the game without finishing.

If both players hit the same number of home runs,
HOME RUN DERBY™ Show own will be playe , with
the following rules:
•Each player gets one swing.
•If one hits a home run an the other makes an
out, the game is over.
• If both hit home runs, or both make outs, the above
process will continue until the winner is eci e .
THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
After winning HOME RUN DERBY™, if your total num-
ber of home runs (or istance) is among the top
ten, you can enter your initials. You can view it by
selecting RECORDS in the HOME RUN DERBY™
menu. The recor s are recor e separately for the
number of outs. See RECORDS in OPTIONS (p.31)
for etails.
Note: You must win HOME RUN DERBY™ to be eligi-
ble for the name entry.
RECORDS
In HOME RUN DERBY™ , the same number of players
from each league will be selecte (i.e. 5 from each
when 10 batters are selecte in the settings). Two
lists of pre-selecte players (one for each league)
in the actual batting or er will be isplaye .
Select two players to switch their batting or er.
Note: If HOME RUN DERBY™ is hel in the sta ium of
the AL team, the list of AL players will be isplaye
on the right si e an the NL players on the left, an
vice versa if it is hel in the sta ium of the NL team.
If you wish to use a player who is not on the list, first
select the player you wish to replace. A menu item
“OTHER TEAM” will be a e to the list. Select
OTHER TEAM, an a list of Major League teams
from the selecte league will be isplaye . Use
the Control Stick/+ Control Pa (for the left list an
the C Stick for the right list) 46 to select the team,
82 to select the player to use, an press the A
Button to replace. Press START/PAUSE to a vance.
Next, select a batter to be controlle by each con-
troller (i.e., 1P si e, CPU, or 2P si e).
Press START/PAUSE to begin HOME RUN DERBY™.
SELECTING PLA ERS
While waiting for the pitch, press the R Button to
isplay a Sta ium Map with information on the
location (an the istance) of each home run hit by
the current batter of the current roun . Press the A
Button to a vance to the next location, B Button to
retreat to previous location, an L Button to view the
map of other roun s. Press the R Button again to
resume HOME RUN DERBY™ .

TEAM EDIT
Select the team you wish to e it. Use the Control
Stick/+ Control Pa to select the team. You can
select all 30 Major League teams an two All-Star
teams.
TEAM
You can assign which pitchers will be the Starters,
Relievers, an Closers. Select a pitcher an press
the A Button to highlight his name. Select a secon
pitcher an press the A Button to switch places
between the two.
PITCHING STAFF
There are 25 players (starting lineup an bench
players) on your active roster, an 5 non-roster
players. To make changes to your active roster
select a player an press the A Button to highlight
his name. Select a secon player, an press the A
Button to switch places between the two.
ROSTER CHANGE
You can customize the starting lineups an the
fiel ing positions for games against right-han e
or left-han e pitchers, as well as games that are
playe with or without the DH.
Use the L/R Button to change the category. When
selecting a batting or er, select a player an press
the A Button to highlight his name. Select a secon
player an press the A Button to switch the batting
or er between the two (if both are alrea y in the
Starting Lineup) or make substitutions. When
changing fiel ing positions, select two players in
the lineup (except the Starting Pitcher) to switch
the fiel ing positions between the two.
Note: “-STARTER-” in icates that the Starting Pitcher
you select before the game will bat at that spot in
the batting or er. While you can change his place
in the batting or er, “-STARTER-” cannot be
replace by a reserve player.
STARTING LINEUP
When All-Star E it is selecte , two lists of players will
be isplaye : the left list are the members of either
the AL or NL All-Star teams, an the right list are the
players on teams in the same league. Use the
Control Stick/+ Control Pa 46 to switch between
the AL All-Stars an NL All-Stars, an C Stick 46 to
select the teams in the same league.
Note: The team on the right will automatically switch
to the team of the correspon ing league whenever
the All-Star team is switche between AL an NL.
You can choose your own All-Star team, e it teams, an tra e players
between teams.
ALL-STAR EDIT
Use the C Stick 82 to select the players you woul
like to have on the All-Star team. Use the Control
Stick/+ Control Pa 82 to select the player you
wish to have replace , an press the A Button to
make the replacement.
Continue the process until you have a team you
feel satisfie with. Press the B Button to en All-Star
E it. You will be aske to save the team to the
Memory Car .
Tra ing is one exactly the same way you e it the
All-Star Team, except that the players selecte will
be exchange between two teams. Use the
Control Stick/+ Control Pa to select the team an
the player on the left list, an C Stick for the team
an the player on the right list. Press the A Button
to complete the tra e.

all players on the team. When RANDOM is
selecte , the Stamina Meter for each player will
