Step 1
System activation
Step 2
Gateway installation
Step 3
Installation of sensors
Step 4
Validation of installation
To activate the system and see the information
provided by Sensara HomeCare, you need to install the
Sensara app on your smartphone. The system should
be activated only once. Thereafter you can also log in
via other smartphones.
Search for ‘Sensara’ in the App Store (iOS) or Google
Play Store (Android) and follow the instructions to
install the free application on your device.
Open the app on your smartphone and create a new
account via the app.
Login and scan the QR code underneath the
gateway (as if you were taking a photo).
Your Sensara system is now activated.
The system consists of a gateway, door sensors and
activity sensors. Now you need to install the gateway.
The core of the Sensara HomeCare system is
the gateway device. Its function is to gather all
information from the sensors and send it over the
Internet to the smartphone application. Place the
Gateway close to an Internet modem or router
(maximum 1 meter).
Connect the Gateway via the supplied Ethernet
cable to a port on the Internet modem or router
labelled ‘LAN’ or ‘Ethernet’.
Plug the small connector side of the USB cable into
the Gateway and insert the power adaptor into a
power outlet.
The green POWER light will turn on.
Wait until all the lights stop blinking.
Now you need to install the sensors.
Door sensors
The Sensara HomeCare sensors are placed at prescribed
locations around the house, as indicated on the back of
the sensors. These monitor the resident’s daily activities.
Decide which doors/drawers in the house are most
relevant for monitoring activities such as leaving/entering
the house. Decide whether the cutlery drawer, plate
cabinet or refrigerator is used most when the resident
prepares a meal. The door sensor consists of two small
devices that work when held close to each other.
Take the set of two devices labelled ‘Front door’ and
‘Kitchen’, and remove the label from the sensor by
pulling it (1)
Clean the appropriate surfaces of the door
(tip: use window cleaner) and let it dry completely (2)
Determine the best place to attach the sensors to the
door. Place the two sensor devices so they are close to
each other when the door is closed, and ensure the
dots on both devices are close to one another.
If required, the spacing blocks can be used.
Activity sensors
An activity sensor is there to monitor the resident’s
daily activities. It is triggered by motion. The sensors are
labelled with room names and should be installed in those
rooms. It is important to place the sensors at locations
that are used most often by the resident.
Insert the batteries into the sensors.
Determine the place where the sensor can be placed
on a wall so that it points into the room while also
covering a large area for exiting the room. (3)
Mount the sensor about 1.4 meters from the ground
and ensure the lens is pointing upwards. If the surface
is flat, clean and dry, mount the sensor using the
double-sided tape. If you have wallpaper or the wall
is uneven, drill a hole in the wall and use a wall plug to
screw the screw provided into the wall.
After the installation, you may want to check
everything is working properly. This can be done using
the app on the smartphone.
Open the app, click on *or |or =. Next select
‘Sensors’ and then ‘Validate system’.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Walk around the house to trigger the sensors one by
one in the order instructed. Make sure other people
or pets don’t disturb this process.
When a sensor responds, a checkmark appears and
you can carry on with the next step in the procedure.
If a sensor doesn’t respond, consult the full manual
for further instructions.
Checklist
before
installation
BEFORE YOU START
Is your smartphone connected to the Internet?
Ensure your smartphone is connected to the
Internet in the house where Sensara HomeCare will
be installed.
Keep the gateway with unique QR code to hand.
On the back of the Sensara HomeCare gateway
you will find a unique QR code (a rectangle with
black dots), which you need during the installation.
Keep this code to hand.
Check if you have received all the components.
Gateway with power adapter
2 or 3 door sensors
(depending on your configuration)
3 or 5 activity sensors
(depending on your configuration)
6 or 10 AA batteries
Cables and mounting materials
Wait before installing the batteries
Make sure the gateway is properly installed and
activated before you insert the batteries in the
sensors. If you install the batteries too early, it takes
longer for the system to start up.

Adding sensor
Insert the batteries into the sensor and wait at least
30 seconds.
Press the small button on top of the gateway. The green and
orange lights will start blinking.
Now press the small button on the sensor. In the case of
a door sensor, use a paperclip to press inside the hole next
to the light. In the case of an activity sensor, press the small
button inside the housing next to the batteries.
When the light on the gateway stops blinking, the sensor is
ready for use.
Deleting sensor
To remove a sensor from the configuration of the system,
you can use the ‘Test/Delete sensors’ tool that can be found
under ‘Settings>Sensors’.
Pets are disturbing the system’s operation
The system is not suitable for houses with large
dogs (>80cm)
In the case of cats, we recommend avoiding pointing the
sensors at high objects such as tables or closets.
Testing the sensors
All system components are continuously externally
monitored. If there is any malfunction, you will be informed
about it by means of a notification on the app.
Go to ‘Settings’ and choose the option ‘Test sensors’.
Here you can check if the sensors are working properly.

Sensara HomeCare is a remote monitoring system that uses small, unobtrusive sensors to help keep a caring eye on elderly
family members or friends who live alone. Sensara lets you keep an eye on the person’s well-being using a convenient
smartphone app, and is the result of 12 years of international research into how new technologies can support the elderly to
live at home longer. Safely, without worries or intrusion into their daily lives.
To determine the best positions for the sensors, consult the following useful tips. Make sure the gateway is correctly installed
before you insert the batteries in the sensors. If you install the batteries too early, starting up the system will take longer.
