MEWP VR simulator
Thank you for choosing Serious Labs’ MEWP VR simulator.
At Serious Labs, we help you discover the benefits
of learning with VR training solutions.
The MEWP VR simulator is a comprehensive training
tool designed to develop efficiency, safety and proficiency
on mobile elevated work platforms. The advanced VR
technology and motion base is intended for use in non-
hazardous, indoor locations only.
You’ll need to register your MEWP VR simulator
to receive upgrade notifications from Serious Labs.
To confirm you are using the latest version of the user
guide, go to http://portal.seriouslabs.com/ to download the
latest copy, or follow the QR code on the following page.
Use the QR scanner code to be taken directly to the latest
version of the User Guide. If you need help, please refer
to the instructions on using a QR scanner at the end of
the booklet.

  
Open the crate, using the two latches on the crate door.
It's strongly recommended that steel toe boots and safety
gloves are used when moving the simulator.
Undo the ratchet strap holding the MEWP VR simulator in
place, and set it to the side.

Unpacking The Crate
Remove the crossbar located near the bottom of the MEWP
VR simulator, which secures the simulator in place.
Place the crossbar in the gap between the crate door and
the crate, with the white plastic facing up — forming a
continuous surface between the door and the crate.

Unpacking The Crate
Gently slide the MEWP VR simulator out of the crate,
onto the crate door.
Release the ratchet strap securing the travel case to the
MEWP VR simulator. Remove the travel case and
place it to the side.

Unpacking The Crate
Using proper lifting techniques, slide the MEWP VR
simulator to the edge of the ramp and carefully lift it
onto the floor. If your MEWP VR Simulator does not include
a wheel bracket, refer to the additional documentation
provided in your Travel Case for further instructions.

Once the equipment has been moved into position,
remove the wheel assembly to expose the power entry
and USB port for set up.

When moving the MEWP VR, always ensure the proper
lifting techniques are followed, and the appropriate PPE is
worn at all times.
Ensure there is a 240cm (96in) by 153cm (60in)
space for the MEWP VR simulator and other equipment, and
a table on which to place the included laptop. Set up
of these components will occur during later steps.
MINIMUM SAFETY ZONE: Ensure there is a 30 cm
(12 inch) obstacle-free zone around the product. Do not
allow persons in this area during operation, unless to
enter or exit the product.

Hardware Installation
Place each of the actuator cups (x4) under
the simulator’s feet.
Place a table next to the simulator, as represented below.
Place the laptop on the table.
If your space requires an alternative layout for the
MEWP VR simulator, please contact Serious Labs for
approved recommendations.

Hardware Installation
Plug the included power supply cord into the power port
on the simulator, and the other end into a wall outlet.
Plug the included data cable into the data port on the
simulator, and secure with the attached threaded coupling.
Use the following chart to plug in all remaining cables. Ensure
the laptop is turned OFF during this step.

Confirm the MEWP VR simulator is connected to a power
source. Confirm that all cables are plugged in correctly. Check
that the simulator power switch, located above the power
cable, is turned on.

Turn on the laptop.

After making any adjustments to the USB
cable configuration (such as unplugging, or plugging
a USB device), ensure that “Digital Audio Interface -
D-BOX KineAudio” is NOT set to the default audio device.
When the Oculus Rift is plugged in to the laptop, the
default audio device should be set to “Headphones -
Rift S Audio”.
 Windows setup subject to change.
Click on the speaker icon, located at the bottom right of the
screen. Next, click on the small arrow. This will show a list of
all available sound deices that are connected to the laptop.

Ensure “” is set as the default
device (It is important that your speakers are set to the
default device, and  “Digital Audio Interface - D-box
KineAudio”).

Close the “Sound” menu.

Create new Account. Oculus requires an account to use
their hardware. To create a new account, click on create new
account, under the blue Facebook button. Note: You are NOT
required to login with a Facebook account.
Create account using email. Click on “create Oculus account
using email”, which is highlighted at the bottom-middle
portion of your screen. Note: You are NOT required to login
with a Facebook account.
3Create Oculus username. Fill in your username, first name,
and last name. When you are done, click continue in the
bottom right corner. Note: The username will be visible to
anyone and needs to be unique. If the username has already
been taken, it will display the error seen below in red.



Creating an Oculus Account
5Confirm Email. Oculus will now send out a confirmation email
to the address that was previously provided. Open the email
and click on the link provided.
4Enter email and password. Fill in your email, as well as a
password for your account. The password must be at least
8 characters, and it can include special characters. Once
everything is done, click Create Account on the bottom right.
Note: Make sure that the checkbox is unclicked, if you do not
want to receive promotional material from Oculus.
After the link is clicked in your email account, a browser
window should pop up, confirming that the email
registration is complete.
6After your email was confirmed in the browser, go back
to the Oculus program, and confirm that your account is
created. Once this is complete, click Continue in the bottom-
right corner.



Creating an Oculus Account
Choose your profile picture. This step is optional and is
not required to complete the account set up. Click Skip
to continue.
Privacy Settings. This step is optional and is not required
to complete the account set up. Click Confirm to continue.

79VR Downloads. The default path selected by Oculus is the
correct location for files to be stored. Click Continue in the
bottom right corner of the screen.
Add Payment method. Payment is NOT required to create
the account, and this step is optional. Click Skip to continue.

Creating an Oculus Account
Purchasing programs or downloading games
may affect the simulator laptop negatively, and thus
affecting the MEWP VR simulation negatively.
Contact Serious Care immediately if you believe
that someone has gained access to your Oculus
account and purchased/downloaded programs
without your knowledge.
Pin number. Oculus requires a 4-digit PIN number to be
entered into the system. Choose a number that is easily
remembered. If you forget the PIN number, Oculus can
send a reset to the email that was selected earlier in the
account setup.

Oculus Rift S Device Setup. Go to the Devices page, click on
the connected Oculus Rift S headset, scroll down and click
on Device Setup.

Connect your Headet. This screen will tell us if the headset
is properly connected to the laptop. With two green check
marks, click Continue.

Oculus Device Setup
Headset Sensor Check. This screen will perform a
connectivity test for the sensors inside the headset. With a
green check mark, click Continue.

Insert Controller Batteries. Ensure that one AA battery
is inserted into each Oculus Touch controller. The battery
covers are magnetic and will easily slide off.

Pair Your Left Controller. Hold in the menu button and
the Y button on the right Touch controller until it vibrates.

After the vibration, check that the process has
completed on the laptop and click Continue.



Oculus Device Setup
Pair Your Right Controller. Hold in the Oculus button and
the B button on the right Touch controller until it vibrates.

After the vibration, check that the process has completed on
the laptop and click Continue.
Guardian Setup/Floor Height. If you are not directed to this
stage automatically, you may navigate to the devices menu.
Navigate to the devices menu, click on the Oculus Rift S, and
scroll down to the Guardian setup. Stand in the simulator basket
and wear the headset. Complete the steps seen on-screen.

Using the left controller, click Continue. At this point, there
will be a purple grid floating in your view. You will need to
push it down to the ground using the left controller, then
click Continue when done.
