signsofdamage.
• Thepipecanbepressurizedaftercompletionofstep4.

part of the 3719 system, is strongly recommended.
• Choosethe3719version(-11or-21)appropriatetothesize
ofthebranchconnectionoftherequiredtting:
Use-11forsizes2.5to4in,and-21forsizes6to12in.

1. Removethesafetyplugfromtopof
electrodepiston.Slideelectrodestraight
downintoelectrodepiston.Thread
electrodeintoplaceuntilconnector
shoulderisushwithtopofelectrode
piston.Handtightenonly.
2. PlacetheLockingShroudoverelectrode;
turn¼-turnclockwisetounlockthepiston,
thenpressdownrmlyonthelocking
shroudtolowertheelectrodepistonintothe
pipe.
3. Turntheshroud1/4-turncounterclockwiseto
lockthepiston.
4. Installthematchingelectronicsassemblyor
preamplierontotheelectrodeconnector.

If the piston does not retract easily, or if any uid is observed leaking from the electrode
threads, the pipe must be drained before the 3719 can be safely removed.
• Stop the ow and depressurize the pipe.
• Remove the entire 3719 assembly from the pipe.
• Remove the electrode from the assembly
• Clean any scaling and debris found on or in the piston tip and surrounding area.
Cleaning
Cleaningtechniquesvarydependingonthetypeofcoatingpresentontheglasselectrodesurfaceorreferencejunction.
• Removesoftcoatingsbyvigorousstirring,orwithdirectedsprayofasuitabledetergentorsolventontotheglasselectrodesurface.
• Usechlorinebleachormilddetergenttoremovesoftcoatings.Rinseelectrodetipincleanwateraftercleaning.
• Usetheleastharshchemicalavailabletoremovehardcoatingswithoutattackingthematerialsofconstruction.
(Forexample,removecalciumcarbonatewitha5%HCL(muriaticacid)solution.
• Removeoilyororganiccoatingswithdetergentsoranappropriatesolventthatdoesnotattackthematerialsofconstruction.
• ORPelectrodesurface(platinum)canbegentlysandedwith600gritwetanddrysiliconeorcarbidesandpaper,jewelersrouge,
crocuscloth,orverynesteelwool.
• Neverscrapeorsandtheglasselectrodesurface.
• Treatglasselectrodesurfaceswithappropriatecaretoavoidbreakage.
6. Electrode Maintenance and Cleaning
5.6 Electrode removal
TheelectrodeinanypHorORPsystem
requiresperiodicservice,calibrationor
replacement.Whenremovingtheelectrode
fromthewet-tapassembly,itisvery
importanttoexercisecautionandfollowthe
instructionscarefully.
1. Removethepreamplierfromthetop
ofthewet-tapassembly.
2. Turnthelockingshroud1/4-turn
clockwisetounlockthepiston.
3. Pulluponthelockingshroudtoretract
theelectrodepistonintothepipe.
DANGER!
Thepistonshouldretracteasilyfromapressurized
pipe.Ifthepistonoffersresistance,thereisadanger
thatthepistoniscoatedwithdepositsfromtheprocess.
STOP! DO NOT FORCE THE PISTON UP!
ItmaydamagetheO-ringsorbreakoffthepistontip.
Return the locking shroud to the LOCKED position
and follow the steps in the box below.
4. Turnthelockingshroud¼-turn
counterclockwiseandliftuptoremoveit
fromthewet-tapassembly.
5. Removetheelectrodebyturningitcounterclockwise.
Forsafety,keepyourbodyclearofthetopofthewet-tapassemblywhileremovingtheelectrode.
DANGER!
Ifanyuidisobservedleakingfromtheelectrodethreads,STOP!DONOTREMOVETHEELECTRODE.Thereisadanger
thatthepistontiphasbeendamaged.
Tighten the electrode back down to reseal the assembly and follow the steps in the box below.

• Coatingsontheglassmayaffectsensorslopes.SeeMaintenanceandCleaningsection.
• Temperatureaffectselectrodeslope.Calibratetemperaturebeforecalibratingthestandardandslope.
Offset in pH Electrodes

Response Time/Stability
Responsetimeandstabilityareaffectedbytheconditionoftheglasssurface(ORPelectrode-Platinumsurface),referencejunction,
andreferencesolution.Restorationtoacceptablelevelscanoftenbeaccomplishedbycleaningtheelectrode'sglasssurface(ORP
electrode-Platinumsurface)andreferencejunction.
7. Troubleshooting
pHandORPelectrodesaresimilartobatteries;theyagewithtimeandusage.
Thefollowinginformationwillhelpmaximizeelectrodelife:
• Hightemperaturesorconcentratedacids/causticswillaccelerateelectrodeaging.
• Neverstoretheelectrodetipindeionized(DI)water.
• Neverexposeelectrodetotemperaturesbelow-12°C(10°F)orallowittodehydrate.Theseconditionswilldamagetheelectrode.
