actuallycyclingontheirbike.TheDialedinMotionDynamicBikeFitprocesstakesmanyoftheconcepts
commonlyusedinstaticbikefitsbutaddstheessentialcomponentofmovementtothem.Nowyoucanfita
biketosomeonewhentheyareactuallycyclingunderdifferentloadsorwhenfatigued.Thesoftwarethen
generatesareportthatyoucandelivertothecustomereitherprintedofviaemail.
Process
TheDialedinMotionDynamicBikeFitSystemdesignedtohelptheretailerfitacommerciallyavailablebike
toacustomerquickly,safely,andaccuratelyatareasonablecost.Itisanin‐storesystemthatusesvideo
analysistechnologytogiveabetterinsightintothecyclingmovementbyfreezingthemotionatthekey
pointsinthepedalrevolution.Itisalsodesignedtomaintainconsistencyacrossallstaffperformingbike
fittingintheshopandtoguidethosenewtotheprocess.
Itisnotintendedtoreplacethebikefittingspecialist,justgivethemanothertooltodotheirjobbasedon
biomechanicalprinciples.Itisalsonotintendedtobeaguideforpeopleonhowtoridebikes,thatisfor
coaches,friendsandpractice.Thelevelofdifficultyattemptedbytheridershouldbebasedonskillandnot
theirbikesetup.Inthisregard,especiallyonmountainbikes,thebeginnerridermayneedtheirseat2‐4cm
lowerthatprescribedforthefirstfewweeks.
TheDialedinMotionDynamicBikeFitSystemstartswiththeSetup,thisiscrucialforaccuracy.TheDialedin
MotionDynamicBikeFittingWizardthenusesrelativelyfixedandun‐changeablepartsofthebikeasits
startingpoint,namelythebottombracketandpedals.Theseatheightisseatrelativetothepedalswhilethe
customeriscycling,takingintoconsiderationthecustomer’sleglength.Oncethisisestablished,thefore/aft
positionoftheseatissetbyrelatingittothekneepositionoverthepedalaxle,againmeasuredwhilethe
customeriscycling.
Thenextstepistomeasuretheseatheightrelativetothehandlebars.Thelastcalculationisthestemlength
andthisisbasedonthecustomer’seffectiveupperbodylengthwhilecyclingandistherelationshipofthe
customershead(nosewhilelookingforward)tothehandlebars.Thelastsectioniswhereyourecordthe
finalsetupofthebikesoitcaneasilybefittedagainifneed‐be.
Onceyouhavefinished,theDialedinMotionDynamicBikeFitsoftwaregeneratesareportfromtheresults.

Neutralbackgroundsandlighting–Backgroundscreenswillnotbeneededinallscenarios.However,in

Greenorbluecolouredscreens(Chromakeyscreens)workwelltoenhancetheclarityofthevideobutany
neutralcolourwillwork.
Avoidblackordarkbackgroundsastheytendto“blend”theathleteintothebackground.Ambient(not
directsunlight)isthebestlightingsource,butifyouneedtoaddadditionallightwerecommend
incandescentorhalogenlights.Fluorescentlightingmayresultinblurryimagesasthecamerawillhavetorun

Lightingisacriticalandoftenoverlookedpartofyoursetup.Thequalityofthelightgreatlyinfluencesthe
qualityofyourimage.Thesoftwarecannotcompensateforbadvideo.Ablurredimageisusuallytheresult
ofincorrectcamerasettings,badlighting,orboth.

TypeoflightsYouneedlightsthatdonotflickerastheimagewillflickeronthevideo
clipaswell.Fluorescentlightingcancausealotofflickering.Youalso
needlightsthatshineascloselyaspossibletowhitelight,somelights
shinelightwithayellowtinge.Youmaystillgetgoodimagesforanalysis
buteverythingmaylookabityellow.Itisimportantnottomixyour
lights,ifyoudotheAutoBrightnessfeatureonthecamerawillnotbe
abletocompensateforthedifferentshadesof‘white’emittedfromthe
differentlights.
LEDPanelsarenowaverygoodoption.
PositionThelightsneedtocreateadiffuselightingpatternthatdoesnotcause
shadowsorlightburn(wherethelightscausepartsoftheskintolook
ultra‐whiteonthevideo).Youwillneedlightsshiningdirectlyonthe
fittingareaandalsoindirectlyontheareabybouncingthelightofthe
roof,wallsetc.Ifyouareindoubtaboutwhatyoushoulddoyoushould
contactyourlocalphotographyandvideoexpert.
IntensityGoodlightingdoesnotalwaysmean themostintenselights;afewwell‐
placedlightspositionedasoutlinedabovecanworkjustaswell.Intense
lightingwillcostmoreinpower,createharshcontrastsinthevideoimage
andwillalsocreatealotofheatinthearea.
ReflectionBecarefulnottohaveanylightsshiningonhighlyreflectivesurfaces;it
causesverybrightspotsonthevideoimageandthecamerawilldarken
thewholeimagetotryandreducethelight‘burn’.
Safety
Safetyinthespaceandduringthefittingprocessisveryimportant.Evenpeoplewithgoodbalanceand
mobilitycanfindcyclingonanindoortraineranunnervingexperience.Asignednon‐liabilitydocumentmay
beneededinsomecountries.
ExplanationItisimportanttoexplaintothecustomerwhatisgoingtohappenandask
themiftheyhaveeverbeenonabicyclebeforeandthenifsohowoften.
Thenaskthemiftheyhaveeverbeenonabikeonanindoortrainer.The

customer.Itiscriticaltothecustomer’sexperiencethattheycanseethe

Thekeyboardandmousepositionneedstobewithineasyaccessasyou
willbeusingthemalot,especiallythemouse.Thesystemisdesignedto
minimisekeyboardusebutyouwillstillneedtotypeinthecustomer
informationatthebeginningofthesessionandatothertimeswhenyou
manyneedtotyperesultsorextracomments.
CablesCablescanbedangerousandmaketheworkspacelookdisorganisedand
thiscreatesanimpressionoflackofprecision.Wherepossible,cables
shouldbewiredintofixedstructuresbyanelectrician.Wherethisisnot

Mounting/SecurityExperiencehastoldusthatitisveryimportanttosecurelymountyour
camera.Thefirstreasonisthatitwillnotgetknockedoutoflineaseasily
andthesecondisthatitdramaticallyreducesthenumberofcameras
stolenoutofstores.
HeightGenerallyforbiomechanicalanalysis,thecamerashouldbeat
approximatelyhalftheheightofthesubjectofinterest.Ifyouarelooking
atthewholebodyonthebikethecamerashouldbesetataboutthe
heightoftoptube.Youdonotneedtosetthisforeachbike,justsetitto
theheightofthetoptubeofamidsizedframeandleaveitthere.Ifyou
werejustlookingatthelowerlimbs,thecamerashouldbeaboutknee
height.Thecamerashouldalsolineupwiththecentreofthebicycle.
CamerasettingsModerncamerasareverygoodatautomaticallyadjustingtodifferent
lightconditionsbutthereareafewofthingsyoucandotoimproveon
