NOTES:
1. DO NOT depress all push buttons on
the data reader simultaneously, this
can clear the memory.
2. The detector must be cleaned or
replaced if the display indicates a
greater than “50%ALM” reading.
3. Replace battery when
“∗∗∗ LOW BAT ∗∗∗” is displayed.
4. Compatible Smoke Detectors:
4098-9601, -9602, -9605.
5. For future use, not applicable with
basic operation.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
To operate the data reader, follow Steps 1 through 6.
1. Turn the ON/OFF switch of the reader to the ON position. The Red LED on
the reader illuminates.
2. Point the focusing lens of the reader directly at a compatible smoke detector’s
LED, no more than 12 inches away. (See Note 4.)
3. When a valid reading is made, the Green LED on the reader illuminates.
4. After a valid reading is taken there are two possible conditions. If the
condition is NORMAL the Green LED is lit alone. If there is a TROUBLE
condition, both the Green and Red LEDs of the reader are illuminated.
(Refer to Figure 1.)
5. When both LEDs are illuminated or if greater than “50%ALM” is indicated,
clean or replace the detector. Refer to Application Manual 574-709 for
detector cleaning.
6. Press the SCAN button on the reader to go to the next detector.
Note: The STORE button is not applicable with basic operation. If accidentally
pressed, take the following steps to clear the reader’s memory.
1. Power the reader OFF.
2. Hold down the STORE and D/L buttons simultaneously.
3. Power the reader ON with the STORE and D/L buttons pressed for five
seconds.
4. Release the buttons.
