NOTE: Carefully read entire instructions thoroughly before attempting to install this part.
Step 1: Place the vehicle on a flat, level surface and engage the parking brake.
Step 2: Remove the spare tire and unbolt and remove the OE rear tire mount from the rear
gate. Remove the OE third brake light assembly according to manufacturer’s specifications.
Step 3: Carefully, remove the upper and lower OE plastic rear gate hinge covers. (Fig. A)

Step 4: Using masking tape, secure the rear gate in place. Unbolt the (10) OE bolts securing
the upper and lower OE hinges to the rear gate. Save the OE hardware for reinstallation.

NOTE: Place a block of wood between the bumper and the tailgate, placing slight
pressure on both. This will prevent tailgate misalignment when OE hardware is removed.
Step 5: Lift the HD tire carrier into place and secure to OE hinge points using the previously
removed (4) OE bolts. Tighten the (4) OE hinge bolts. Make sure all remaining HD tire
carrier mounting holes line up with existing holes in the rear gate before tightening the OE
bolts. (Fig. C)
NOTE: If the tailgate moved, realign as necessary. Starting a few bolts in the remain-
ing mounting holes will help to ensure the mounting holes are properly aligned.
Step 6: Torque the OE hinge bolts, starting with the outside bolts first, according to manu-
facturers specifications. Carefully, open the rear gate and torque the inner hinge bolts ac-
cording to manufacturer’s.
NOTE: It is recommended to apply medium strength (blue) threadlocker to the OE
hinge bolts.

Step 7: Press the wheel mount studs (90-4219), in your desired pattern, into the tire mount
bracket base (93-9183). (Fig. E)
NOTE: The studs may be pressed into place. DO NOT use lug nuts to install the studs.

Step 8: Assemble the wheel mount bracket (tire mount bracket 93-9187 & tire mount
bracket base 93-9183) using the supplied (5) 10mm X 30mm bolts and hardware. Leave the
bolts loose at this time. Lay the spare tire face down on the ground and install the wheel
mount bracket temporarily onto the spare tire. (Fig. F)
Step 9: With the spare tire face down, lay a ruler or a flat bar across the tire and adjust the
wheel mount bracket assembly until the base makes contact with the ruler or flat bar. Torque
the wheel mount bracket assembly bolts to ?? ft./lbs. (Fig. F)
NOTE: The assembled bracket may not line up perfectly with the straight edge.

Step 10: Secure the tire mount bracket assembly (outside) and the 3rd brake light lower
bracket (inside) to the tire carrier mount (93-356CA100) using the (4) supplied 12mmX
35mm bolts and hardware. Torque 12mm hardware to 80 ft./lbs. (Fig. G)
NOTE: The size of the spare tire will determine the mounting height of the bracket. If
possible, it is better to have the tire fit tighter against the straight edge/tire gate to avoid
excess vibration.
TIP: For off-road applications, raise the tire position for more departure angle. For
street driven applications, lower the tire position for greater rear window vision.
Step 11: Secure the tire carrier mount assembly to the rear gate mounting holes and HD tire
carrier using the (8) supplied 8mm X 40mm bolts and washers. Torque the 8mm hardware
to ?? ft./lbs. (Fig. H)

Step 12: Install the spare tire to the tire mount bracket and secure using the supplied lug nuts
(90-4219).
Step 13: If a third brake light is being used, install the third brake light upper bracket onto
the third brake light lower bracket and secure using the (4) supplied 6mm X 20mm bolts and
hardware. Torque 6mm hardware to ?? ft./lbs. (Fig. I)
IMPORTANT!: Be sure third brake light is mounted so it will be visible above the
spare tire.
Step 14: Remove the (2) OE screws from the OE plastic third brake light assembly. Install
the OE front plastic panel and lens into the new third brake light assembly using the (2) pre-
viously removed OE screws. (Fig. I)
Step 15: Depending on the mounting position of the third brake light assembly the wiring
harness may need to be extended. Extend the third brake light wiring harness to the passen-
ger side hinge, then up the tire gate. This can simply be done by splicing the wire and using
some insulated butt splice connectors and 18 gauge wire, extend the wire to the appropriate
length. It is recommended to have this done by an experienced electrical installer.
IMPORTANT!: Make sure there is enough slack in the wire throughout the tailgate
travel.
Step 16: Adjust the HD tire gate assembly for level and re-torque mounting hardware as
necessary.

Finished Installation
Product cleaning and maintenance instructions
Stainless Steel Finish – Aluminum polish may be used to polish small scratches and scuffs on the fin-
ish. Mild soap, window or glass cleaner may be used to clean the finish. Dual state powder coat finish
– Mild soap, window or glass cleaner may be used to clean the finish. In order to protect the finish, you
may wax your product on a regular basis with pure carnauba automotive wax. Do not use any types of
soap, polish or was that contains abrasive that could damage the finish. Textured coated finishes
should be cleaned with a mild soap on a damp sponge. Do not apply polish or was that requires to be
removed by means of buffing. This type of wax is commonly used at car wash facilities. Chrome Fin-
ish – Mild soap, window or glass cleaner may be used to clean the finish. In order to protect the finish
you should wax your product on a regular basis with pure carnauba automotive wax. Do not use any
types of soap, polish or was that contains abrasive that could damage the finish.

Limited Warranties
Smittybilt’s products are covered under the following limited warranties only. Note that the
duration of the limited warranty differs according to the material and finish of the product pur-
chased. Subject to the duration and conditions of the limited warranty stated below, Smittybilt
warrants to the original retail purchaser that its products are free from defects in material and
workmanship. All other warranties and representations express or implied, are hereby dis-
claimed, including fitness for merchantability and buyer’s intended use or purpose. All parts
are sold “AS IS” except for the limited warranties granted herein. Buyer assumes all risks as to
the selection, suitability and performance of all goods and products selected. This limited war-
ranty does not cover damage or impairment in any part due to misuse, improper installation,
accident or contact with on-road or off-road hazards, product modification, improper or inade-
quate cleaning and/or maintenance. Smittybilt is not responsible for items damaged during
shipping. This warranty is not transferable from the original buyer. For the original Buyer to
be eligible for the limited warranty coverage, the Buyer must provide proof of purchase. Smit-
tybilt strongly recommends returning the warranty registration card.
Customer’s remedy hereunder shall be limited only to repair or replacement (at Smittybilt’s
option) of any defective part(s) returned to Smittybilt at customer’s expense. The determination
of whether or not a returned part is defective or subject to coverage under the limited warranties
stated herein shall be made at Smittybilt’s sole discretion.
To assure product quality, Smittybilt reserves the right to change product design, material,
specification and finishes without prior notice to customers. This limited warranty gives you
specific legal rights and you may also have other rights, which may vary from state to state.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limi-
tations may not apply as to you. Also, some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of
incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to
you. Smittybilt reserves the right to discontinue product lines and substitute products, or pro-
vide other remedies than those listed in this limited warranty for those discontinued products.

tended to reduce or avoid injury or damage in the event of an accident. The weight and location

vehicle’s safety equipment. Consult your owner’s manual and the Smittybilt instructions, or
