Characteristics of MyReserve
More usable solar energy
V (photovoltaic) modules produce direct current (DC) and
batteries store electricity in DC as well. Households, howe-
ver, use alternating current (AC). The DC power must
be converted to AC power and this conversion is performed
by the inverter. Electricity from the roof goes through
an inverter and is converted into alternating current. If it
is sent to a conventional battery, it is converted back into
direct current. Then as the battery discharges the current
must be converted once again to alternating current. With
each conversion you lose some of your precious solar po-
wer. MyReserve, on the other hand, is installed before the
inverter. It stores the direct current from the PV system.
Only when the electricity is consumed in the household is
it converted into alternating current. This leaves over 90 %
of your own solar power available – that pays o!

Highest reaction speed
In the best case, battery storage systems react without
delay to changes in solar power generation or household
consumption. Many electrical appliances only draw power
for a few seconds. So if in reality it can take several seconds
for a battery storage device to react to such changes, the
charging and discharging capacity of the battery will lag
behind the real power balance. Until the storage device
delivers energy, the devices consume expensive mains po-
wer. This has a long-term impact on the eciency of the
battery. MyReserve is programmed for a very high response
speed, so that it can really serve the power requirements
eciently. MyReserve therefore has a reaction time 10
times faster than other systems. This means increased po-
wer consumption and maximum eciency. MyReserve re-
gisters the power demand immediately and delivers stored
energy almost in real time. Thus less power from the mains
is needed.

Long service life and warranty
The charging and discharging processes are intelligently
controlled via the battery management system in your My-
Reserve. This increases the service life of the MyReserve.
SOLARWATT can therefore give you a 10-year performance
guarantee on the battery modules. If their usable energy
content falls below 80 %, SOLARWATT will cover the costs
of replacement, transport, installation and removal. Du-
ring this period, the warranty covers an unlimited number
of cycles (one-time complete charging and discharging).
SOLARWATT also oers a 10-year product warranty on the
power electronics of your MyReserve. The additional free
FullCoverage* covers the risk of mains overvoltage, light-
ning, theft and ooding for 5 years.
Individuality through modularity
MyReserve ts your requirements because its modular
design allows it to be congured individually. Five battery
modules can be connected per MyReserve Command:
5x 2.4 kWh = 12 kWh usable energy content
5x 900 Watt = up to 4,5 kW charge/discharge power
You need more capacity? MyReserve can be expanded as a
cluster to a storage system with up to 72 kWh usable ener-
gy content.

The capacity of electricity storage batteries is expressed in kilowatt hours (kWh). 1 kWh means that the
battery could power a device with an output of 1,000 watts for 1 hour. However, most devices require much
less than 1,000 watts. Here are a few examples of how much energy your battery can provide:

Charging behavior
Your SOLARWATT photovoltaic system produces electrici-
ty throughout the day. MyReserve stores the extra energy
your household does not consume directly, and makes it
available when the sun is not shining.

Charge management “fully charged at sunset”Energy consumption of the household
MyReserve determines the optimum charging and dischar-
ging times using a self-learning algorithm that processes
energy generation and energy consumption in the house-
hold. This is because if the battery switches to “charging”
early in the day, it may remain at maximum charge for large
parts of the day. The cells age faster and the lifespan of
the battery is reduced. The charging strategy of MyReserve
therefore aims to ensure that the 100% charge state is not
reached until shortly before sunset. MyReserve “learns”
from the yield and consumption data of the last seven days
and then optimizes the charging behavior. The graph shows
a comparison of the charging curve of conventional batte-
ries and the MyReserve.

Depending on the situation, MyReserve switches among
the following types of functions:
1. Direct supply from PV
2. Direct supply from PV and charge battery
3. Direct supply from PV, charge battery, infeed
4. Direct supply from PV and discharge battery
5. Discharge battery only (night mode)
Direct supply from PV
When your household requires exactly as much power as
your PV system is supplying (1 kW household, 1 kW gene-
rated), you need neither purchase energy from the public
grid (0 kW electricity purchase) nor feed it into the grid (0
kW infeed).
All of the energy produced is used directly (1 kW internal
consumption); MyReserve neither charges nor discharges
(0 kW battery charge/discharge).
This constellation is typical during early morning or late
evening hours.
Direct supply from PV and charge battery
If the PV system generates more energy than your house-
hold requires (2 kW generated, 1 kW household), the My-
Reserve will begin charging automatically (1 kW battery
charge).
The system will automatically adjust how the MyReserve is
charged in accordance with the charging strategy.
This constellation is typical around midday on sunny days.
Direct supply from PV, charge battery, infeed
In the example shown, 1.5 kW of energy are fed into the
MyReserve. If more energy is produced (3 kW) than can be
stored (1.5 kW) or used by the household (1 kW household),
the excess electricity is fed into the public power grid (0.5
kW infeed).
This constellation is typical on, for example, sunny after-
noons.
Direct supply from PV and discharge battery
The power generated by the PV system (1.0 kW) is less than
what the household requires (2.0 kW). MyReserve dischar-
ges the electricity needed to cover household needs (1.0
kW).
This constellation is typical for late afternoons.

Discharge battery only (night mode)
Whenever the PV system is incapable of generating power,
the necessary electricity is primarily drawn from the My-
Reserve. Only a small fraction must be purchased from the
power company. This constellation is typical for nighttime
operations.
Winter operation (unconditional charging)
If the MyReserve is completely discharged, i.e. a cell in the
MyReserve Pack reaches the minimum permissible voltage,
it will be unconditionally charged until all cells in the MyRe-
serve Pack have reached a minimum voltage.
This unconditional charging takes place up to a SoC (State
of Charge) of 20 %. Until this value is reached, no discharge
is possible. Only when the SoC of 20 % has been exceeded
discharging can start again.
The charging takes place with at least 50 % of the PV po-
wer. If the AC sensor measures a feed into the grid, i.e. the
household uses less than the remaining 50 % of the PV
power, MyReserve is additionally charged with this surplus
until a predened state of charge is reached.
The unconditional charging serves as deep discharge pro-
tection for the battery cells and contributes to an extension
of the product life.
Sleep mode
If no electricity can be generated over a longer period of
time, for example because the PV system is covered in
snow, the MyReserve switches into energy-saving mode in
order to prevent deep discharge of the battery modules.
This mode, known as Sleep Mode, helps ensure optimal
protection of the battery modules. The battery modules will
remain capable of switching back into normal operating
mode easily and automatically for a period of ve months. If
this ve-month time limit is exceeded, the battery modules
can be re-activated by a service technician.

MyReserve operation
Temperature behaviour
MyReserve is not actively cooled and is therefore main-
tenance-free. There are no disturbing noises and the ope-
ration of the storage unit does not require any additional
energy through cooling. The MyReserve Command cools
down via the surface of the aluminum housing and trough
the room temperature.
A heat development of 60°C can occur on the MyReserve
Command.
NOTE
• There are no limitations on performance for the household in the range from appr. 0°C to appr. 30°C.
• While charging there is a power throttling on appr. +10°C and colder to zero at appr.-2°C.
• Operation does not take place below appr. -15°C or above appr. +45°C.
• Accelerated aging of the cells should be expected at temperatures above appr. +45°C.

Via network integration with the EnergyManager
If you are using your MyReserve in combination with the
EnergyManager, you can access the EnergyManager Portal
to view and evaluate all energy ows within your house-
hold in real time.
MyReserve transmits energy data, such as electricity input
and output or charging status, to the EnergyManager. The
EnergyManager Portal visualizes data over the course of
the day for the current day as well as all previous days and
gives you detailed information on electricity generation
and consumption, or device charging and discharging, at
any time.
By using the QR code above or via the website www.solar-
watt.com, menu item Energy Management, you can get to
know and test the EnergyManager Portal.
The charging strategy of the MyReserve is designed
for the longest possible service life. This results in
3,000 kWh more free solar power over the entire li-
fetime. Sudden changes in the weather can hinder the
planned full charge at the latest possible time. This can
be avoided immediately by including weather data.
Weather phenomena are strongly location-dependent,
sometimes a few hundred meters decide on precipita-
tion or temperature. Specic data of the PV system such
as orientation, inclination and location are saved in the
EnergyManager settings. In conjunction with a daily we-
ather report for the region, the intelligent control centre
can use this data to calculate an accurate yield forecast.
Ask your SOLARWATT installer! He will set up your Energy-
Manager Portal login.

Fireghting measures
In the event that the battery is exposed to excessive heat
such as an external re, observe the following:
The battery’s primary products of combustion are carbon
dioxide (CO2) and water vapor (H2O). Signicantly smaller
quantities of carbon dioxide (CO), hydrouoric acid (HF)
and other gaseous intermediate products are released as
well. Dusts of nickel oxide, cobalt oxide, manganese oxide
(with NMC cells) must also be taken into account.
Unsuitable extinguishing agent: Water jets, Type D extin-
guishers
Suitable extinguishing agents: Sand, dry extinguishing
powder, carbon dioxide, Type PM12i metal re extinguish-
ers.
If the battery is exposed to re but is not yet burning, water
is a suitable extinguishing and cooling agent. However be
aware of using water on anything still conducting electrici-
ty otherwise there is a risk of electrocution.
Instructions for reghting measures
1. As long as the battery has not yet overheated, the sys-
tem can be cooled down using carbon dioxide or a jet
of water, provided that the following warnings are kept
in mind.
2. When extinguishing with water or other electrically
conductive extinguishing agents avoid direct contact
with exposed metal parts and cable cores, there is a
risk of electric shock from DC voltage of up to 1.000 V
and AC voltage of up to 230 V.
3. Do not inhale fumes, or use a self-contained breathing
apparatus. If possible, wear a full protection suit.
4. The battery’s heating value is approximately 140 MJ.
FAQ
What do I do once the battery modules reach the end of
their lifespan?
Contact your local SOLARWATT certied installer or
SOLARWATT oce. SOLARWATT will then take care of dis-
posing of the batteries.
Important: The battery modules should not be disposed of
as household waste.
Can the MyReserve specically store PV energy genera-
ted during midday peak production hours?
The MyReserve battery storage system uses a self-learning,
intelligent algorithm to analyze household energy produc-
tion and consumption, and uses that information to learn
when and how much surplus electricity will be available
to charge the battery. The charging process is distributed
over the course of the day and completed at sunset, which
is particularly gentle on batteries and thus maximizes their
service lifespans. If additional surplus energy is available,
as is typically the case around midday, it is advisable to ac-
tivate the intelligent infeed optimizer on the EnergyMana-
ger and automatically switch on electricity consumers such
as immersion heaters or pool pumps.
If the MyReserve fails, will the photovoltaic system stop
producing electricity?
No. In most cases, the photovoltaic system will continue
operating as usual. The PV system and PV inverter will only
be disconnected from one another if and when you acti-
vate the DC circuit breaker integrated into the MyReserve.
In some circumstances, however, overcurrents (due to un-
der-load activation of the DC circuit breaker, for example)
may trigger the MyReserve’s internal fuse, which will cut
the power supply to the PV inverter.
What does MyReserve initialization involve?
After the MyReserve has undergone initial commissioning/
recommissioning and the battery relay has been opened,
the system will be initialized to check whether minimum
switch-on conditions are in place. Initialization is com-
pleted when the following conditions are fullled simul-
taneously without interruption for 30 seconds: Voltage
on connected PV string >120 V, current on connected PV
string >0.3 A.
The MyReserve will only be permitted to begin CHARGING
or DISCHARGING following successful initialization. This
‘Commissioning’ validation occurs each day.
What algorithm is used to determine how the MyReserve
is charged?
Li-ion batteries age more quickly when fully charged. To
optimize battery life, the MyReserve uses a self-learning
charge algorithm under which the batteries only nish
charging shortly before sunset. In some circumstances, this
may mean that the MyReserve does not use the rst energy
surpluses in the morning to charge the battery.
Does MyReserve sometimes show no clear operating state?
The CHARGE/DISCHARGE operating status is indicated by
a sequential light of the PERFORMANCE LED. At 0% - 20%
charge level, only the rst PERFORMANCE LED is lit so no
sequential light can visualize the CHARGE/DISCHARGE state.
