After turning off the ignition, be sure to press
(OFF) on the unit for 2 seconds to turn off the
clock display.
Otherwise,the clock display doesnot turn off

Moisture condensation
On arainy day or in avery damparea,moisture
condensationmayoccurinsidethe lensesand
display of the unit. Shouldthis occur,the unit
will not operateproperly.In suchacase,remove
thedisc andwait for aboutanhour until the
moisturehasevaporated.
To maintain high sound quality
Be carefulnot to splashjuice or othersoft drinks
onto theunit or discs.

* Discs with non-standardshapes(e.g.,heart,
square,star)cannotbeplayedon this unit.
Attempting to do somay damagetheunit. Do

0Youcannotplay 8cm (3 in.) CDs.
l Before playing, cleanthediscswith a
commercially availablecleaningcloth. Wipe
eachdisc from thecenterout. Do not use
solventssuchasbenzine,thinner,commercially

for analogdiscs.
Notes on CD-FED-RW discs
l You canplay CD-Rs (recordableCDs)/CD-
RWs (rewritable CDs) designedfor audiouse
on this unit.
Look for thesemarksto distinguish CD-Rsl
CD-RWs for audiouse.
Thesemarksdenotethat a discis not for audio
use.
l SomeCD-Rs/CD-RWs (dependingon the
equipmentusedfor its recordingor the
condition of thedisc) maynot play on this unit.
l You cannotplay aCD-R/a CD-RW that is not
finalized*.
* A process necessary for a recorded CD-R/CD-RW
disc to be played on the audio CD player.

GettingStarted
Resettingthe unit
Before operating the unit for the first time, or
after replacing the car battery or changing the
connections, you must reset the unit.
Press the RESET button with a pointed object,
such as a ball-point pen.

Notes
l After resetting the unit in the closedposition, be sure
to press m on the unit once before operating
further. If a disc is in the unit, the disc will be ejected
automatically. insert the disc again.
l Pressingthe RESET button will erase the clock
setting and some stored contents.
Detachingthe front panel
You can detach the front panel of this unit to
protect the unit from being stolen.
When the front panel is in the sub-display
position, press (m) on the unit for 2
seconds. If a disc is partially inserted, load the
disc correctly or remove the disc from the unit.
Caution alarm
If you turn the ignition switch to the OFF
position without removing the front panel, the
caution alarm will beep for a few seconds.
1 Press (OPEN) on the unit for 2
seconds.
The front panel automatically tilts at an angle
of 30”.
2 Detach the front panel as illustrated.
After the front panel is completely detached,
the sub display closes automatically.
Notes
l If you detach the front pane/ while the unit is still
turned on, the power will turn off automatically to
prevent the speakers from being damaged.
l Do not drop or put excessive pressure on the front
panel and the display window.
l Do not subject the front panel to heat/high
temperature or moisture. Avoid leaving it in parked
cars or on dashboards/rear trays.
Tip
When carrying the front panel with you, use the
supplied front panel case.

l Simply overwrite or enter ” bl ” fo correct or erase a

0 There is another way to start labeling a CD: Press
(LIST) for 2 seconds instead of performing steps 2
and 3. Youcan a/so complete the operation by
pressing (LIST) for 2 seconds instead of step 5.
0 Youcan label CDs on a unit without the CUSTOM
FlLE function if that unit is connected along with a
CD unit that has the function. The Disc Memo will be
stored in the memory of the CD unit with the
CUSTOM NLE function.
Note
Repeat/shuffle play is suspended until the Name Edit
is complete.
Locatinga disc byname
- List-up (For a CDunit with the CDTEXT/
CUSTOMFILEfunction, oran MD unit)
You can use this function for discs that have been
assigned custom names*’ or for CD TEXT
discF.
*I Locating a disc by its custom name: when you
assign a name for a CD (page 12) or an MD.
*2 Locating discs by the CD TEXT information: when
you play a CD TEXT disc on a CD unit with the CD
TEXT function.
Viewing the Disc Memo
1 Press (LIST).
As a display item, the Disc Memo always takes The name assigned to the current disc appears

l When the Disc Memo for a CD TEXT disc is erased,

* If you cannot find the Disc Memo you want to erase,
try selecting a different CD unit in step 2.

Theunit selectsthe stationswith thestrongest
signalswithin the selectedband,andstoresthem
in theorderof their frequency.

the radio.
2 Press <MODE) repeatedly to select the
band.

repeatedly until “BTM” appears.
4 Press (ENTER).
A beepsoundswhenthe settingis stored.
Notes
l If only a few stations can be received due to weak
signals, some number buttons will retain their former
settings.
l When a number is indicated in the display the unit
starts storing stations from the one currently
displayed.
Receiving the stored stations
1 Press (SOURCE) repeatedly to select
the radio.
2 Press (MODE) repeatedly to select the
band.
3 Press the number button (0 to a)
on which the desired station is stored.
Tip
Press t or + to receive the stations in the order they
are stored in the memory (Preset Search function).
If preset tuning does not work
Press m (C) or m (+) to
search for the station (automatic
tuning).
Scanningstopswhentheunit receivesa
station.Repeatuntil thedesiredstation is
received.
Tim
if automatic tuning stops too frequently, turn on the
Local Seek to limit seek to stations with stronger
signals. See “Changing the sound and display
seftings” on page 78.
If you know the frequency of the station you want to
listen to, press and hold C or + to locate the
approximate frequency then press C or I,
repeatedly to fine adjust to the desired frequency
(manual tuning).
If FM stereo reception is poor
Select monaural reception mode
See“Changing the soundanddisplay
settings” on page18.
The soundimproves,but becomesmonaural
(“ST” disappears).
Note
If interference occurs, this unit will automatically
narrow the reception frequency to eliminate noise (IF
Auto function). In such cases, some FM stereo bro
adcasts may become monaural while in the stereo
reception mode.
Tips
l Toa/ways hear FM stereo broadcasts in stereo, you
can change the IF Auto setting and widen the
frequency signal reception. See “Changing the
sound and display settings” on page 18. Note that
some interference may occur in this setting.
* If FM broadcasts are difficult to hear, set DSO to off
(page Wo).

Settingthe equalizer(EQ7)
You can select an equalizer curve for 7 music
types (Xplod, Vocal, Club, Jazz. New Age, Rock,
Custom), and off (equalizer off).
You can store and adjust the equalizer settings
for frequency and level.
You can store the EQ7 setting for each source,

(radio, CD, or MD).
2 Press m repeatedly until the
desired equalizer curve appears.
Each time you press (EQ7). the item
changes.
To cancel the equalizing effect, select “off.”
After 3 seconds. the display returns to the
normal playback mode.
