How to use this remote
This remote can be used in the following two ways.
xWhen using as a simplified rem ote
This remote can be used as a simplified substitute of the
supplied remote (RM-TP504/RM-LJ304) to operate
STR-V555ES/V444ES. The following operations are
possible:
• Adjusting the volume.
• Switching the power to on or off.
• Switching sources.
• Controlling each component.
You do not need to switch the USE MODE of this remote
(RM-US104).
xWhen using in t he 2nd room
Amplifier/ Receiver
Using t he opt ional IR repeat er as show n above
You can switch the output source of the 2ND AV jacks of
STR-V555ES/V444ES in the main room. It is necessary to
follow the settings described below:
• Switch the COMMAND MODE of the STR-V555ES/
V444ES in the main room to “AV SYSTEM2 (AV2)”.
• Switch the COMMAND MODE of the supplied remote
(RM-TP504/RM-LJ304) to “AV SYSTEM2”.
• Switch the USE MODE of this remote (RM-US104) to
USE MODE 2.
For details on how to switch the USE MODE, see “To
switch the USE MODE of the remote” on the following
page.
zWhen you are using a Sony receiver in the 2nd room
You can adjust the volume. You can also switch sources if you set
the USE MODE of this remote to USE MODE 1.
Note
If the COMMAND MODE of the STR-V555ES/V444ES is
switched to “AV SYSTEM1 (AV1)”, the volume of the receiver in
the main room changes when you change the volume using this
remote (RM-US104).

Press to turn the receiver on or off.
2M UTING button*
Press to mute the sound. The MUTING indicator on
the receiver lights up when the sound is muted.
3M ASTER VOLUM E +/ – buttons*
Press to adjust the volume level of all speakers at the
same time.
* These buttons operate receivers with COMMAND MODE set
to “AV SYSTEM1” or other Sony receivers.

Check that you received the following item with the
remote:
R6 (size-AA) batteries (2)

Insert two R6 (size-AA) batteries with the + and –
properly oriented in the battery compartment. When
using the remote, point it at the remote sensor on the
receiver.
zWhen to replace batteries
Under normal conditions, the batteries should last for about
6 months. When the remote no longer operates the receiver,
replace both batteries with new ones.
Notes
• Do not leave the remote in an extremely hot or humid place.
• Do not use a new battery with an old one.
• Do not expose the remote sensor of the receiver to direct
sunlight or lighting apparatuses. Doing so may cause a
malfunction.
• If you don’t use the remote for an extended period of time,
remove the batteries to avoid possible damage from battery
leakage and corrosion.

Press to change the codes of the function buttons (4)
(changing the source of the receiver or switching
sources to output from the 2ND AV jacks) or to change
the category of the function buttons.
9USE M ODE indicator
When setting the remote using the USE MODE button,
or whenever a button on the remote is pressed while
the remote is in the USE MODE 2, the indicator lights.
**The function of these buttons switches automatically each time
you press the function buttons (4). The above explanation is
intended to serve as an example only. Therefore, depending on
the component, the above operation may not be possible or
may operate differently than described.
zClearing all programmed signals
Press ?/1 and USE MODE at the same time. The remote is reset
to its factory-setting.

To use RM-US104 in the 2nd room, it is necessary to
switch the USE MODE. To use as a simplified remote, it is
not necessary to switch the USE MODE.
xWhen using as a sim plif ied remote
Always set to USE MODE 1.
xWhen using in t he 2nd room
You can adjust the volume.
To switch output from the 2ND AV jacks in the main
room
Switch to USE MODE 2.
When controlling Sony receivers in the 2nd room
Switch to USE MODE 1. You can switch sources on the
receiver.
Press USE M ODE.
This remote’s USE MODE switches and the indicator
flashes as follows:
USE MODE 1 t2 : The indicator flashes twice.
USE MODE 2 t1 : The indicator flashes once.
zTo check the current USE M ODE, press any button
Under USE MODE 2, the indicator lights while a button is
pressed. Under USE MODE 1, the indicator does not light while a
button is pressed.
4Function buttons
The function changes according to the USE MODE.
USE M ODE 1: Press to select the source of the
receiver.
USE M ODE 2: Press to select the source you w ant
to output from the 2ND AV jacks.
Press one of the buttons to select the component you
want to use. When you press any of the function
buttons, the receiver turns on. The components are
factory assigned to the buttons as follows. When you
want to assign other components, program the remote
following the steps in “To change the button
assignments”.

memory page for presetting radio stations or tuning to
preset stations.

To change t he but ton assignments
You can change the factory settings of the function
buttons to suit the components in your system. For
example, if you connect a LD player to the VIDEO 2 jacks
on the receiver, you can set the VIDEO2 button on this
remote to control the LD player.
Note, however, that the settings of the TUNER and
PHONO buttons cannot be changed.
1Press USE M ODE for more than 2 seconds.
The indicator lights up.
2Press the function button you w ant to change the
assignment of.
The indicator turns off when a valid button is pressed.
Only the first function button that is pressed will be
registered.
Example: Press VIDEO2.
3Press the function button for w hich you w ant to
change the assignment to.
See the table below for the factory assigned categories
of each button. To select “2nd pressed” or “3rd
pressed” categories, press the same button twice or
three times. The indicator turns off when a valid
button is pressed.
Example: Press DVD/LD twice.
4Press USE M ODE.
The new assignment is registered.
The indicator turns off.
zIf the operation is unsuccessful
The indicator flashes twice and the remote automatically exits the
button assignment mode. In this case, the new assignment is not
registered and the previous setting remains.
Notes
• If you do not press a button during Step 2 through 4 within
thirty seconds, the remote automatically exits the button
assignment mode. Start again from Step 1.
• In step 3, if you press the same button more than the possible
number of categories that can be selected, only the last category
is registered for the new assignment.
• In step 3, if you press several function buttons, the category of
the last pressed button is selected.

Troubleshoot ing
If you experience any of the following difficulties while
using the remote, use this troubleshooting guide to help
you remedy the problem. Should any problem persist,
consult your nearest Sony dealer.
The remote does not function.
,Point the remote at the remote sensor on the
receiver.
,Remove any obstacles in the path between the
remote and the receiver.
,Replace both batteries in the remote with new
ones, if they are weak.
,Make sure you select the correct function on the
remote.
,Make sure you have selected the correct USE
MODE for RM-US104. For details, see “To switch
the USE MODE of the remote” on the previous
page.
