Professional Hard Disk Unit from Sony
Capture more of your HD XDCAM EX
footage with larger capacity
HD is here and it’s time to be involved.
If you’re looking for an external hard disk unit offering high-capacity
XDCAM EX storage and stable data transfer, choose PHU-60K!
PHU-60K Series
PHU-60K: 60GB
Super light hard disk unit joins
the XDCAM EX product family
Offering striking HD pictures, excellent mobility
and high operational efficiency at a very
affordable cost, XDCAM EX camcorders with
super fast SxS PRO™ memory cards have
revolutionised tapeless HD productions.
Now, Sony Professional Media increases the
efficiency of XDCAM EX even further with
a 60GB external hard disk unit capable of
recording approximately 260 minutes of HD
video. The PHU-60K challenges the limits of
XDCAM EX productivity with high capacity
storage, stable data transfer and outstanding
reliability.
PHU-60K is part of family of Sony HD media
products designed for every need and
budget.
Designed for XDCAM EX users
PHU-60K has been designed to enhance the workflow
opportunities for XDCAM EX users. Using the now well
established Express Card™ technology and a USB2.0
interface, our new hard disk benefits from an optimized
protocol for controlling communication with PMW-EX(1)
series cameras. This results in very stable data transfer
during long recordings.
(1) A firmware is required for PMW-EX1 bought before September 2008.
Combining the best media for maximum
performance
Both the PHU-60K hard disk unit and SxS PRO™(2) memory
card are essential partners for XDCAM EX camcorders.
Select the most suitable media for each individual project
to truly maximise workflow efficiency.
Choose SxS PRO™ when you need speed and ultimate
portability for your daily XDCAM EX shoots. It’s robust,
reliable and very small so you can easily carry it around
wherever you go. SxS PRO™ is also the fastest solution(3) for
time-critical editing.
True XDCAM efficiency combining PHU-60K and SxS PRO™
The PHU-60K comprises a 60GB hard disk unit, Shoe
Adaptor and connection cable.
To use with your EX camcorder, you will need
the same battery as your camcorder. Sony
recommends the BP-U30 (28Wh).

freelance videographers at shows and exhibitions
where longer indoor(4) filming at an affordable cost is of
paramount importance. A reliable high capacity day-to-
day solution.
True XDCAM EX professionals will appreciate the need to
switch regularly between SxS PRO™ and the PHU-60K in
order to get the best from their equipment. Both media
are designed to be used in synergy.

CyberCapture™ Technology
Cybercapture™ is an advanced
software technology created by
Sony to maximize the performance of Sony Hard Disk units.
By optimising read/write performance, Cybercapture™
enables the PHU-60K to achieve stable data transfer while
recording video.Vibrations, shocks and low temperatures
are much better monitored and managed with less frame
drop.
PHU-60K delivers a sequential read/write sustained
data transfer rate of 160Mbps under normal conditions
and a minimum transfer rate of 35Mbps under extreme
conditions.
Advanced Data Protection
PHU-60K is designed to fully protect your precious data
with a variety of high security technology.
In fact, with no less than four innovative protection
features, PHU-60K is far more reliable than most other hard
disk units.
> A data salvage function enables restoration of contents
damaged due to
battery or cable
disconnection and
power down during
recording.
> A shock proof buffer memory allows continuous
recording during vibration or shock conditions.
> A buffer memory allows recording as soon as the
PHU-60K is turned on for faster XDCAM EX workflow.
> A 3G Sensor detects excessive falls or rollovers and
automatically parks the HDD head within the PHU-60K
to prevent damage to the disk and protect your data.
Light but Robust!
Despite weighing just 220g, PHU-60K is a really robust
Hard Disk Unit.
If it is dropped from a maximum of 1.5 metres or a
rollover happens, the PHU-60K is protected by a new
insulator which is designed against mechanical shock
and vibration, and the 3G sensor will protect the data
by parking the HDD head.
If any shock or vibration stops the writing to the
HDD, the shock proof memory will allow continuous
recording for a maximum of nine seconds(5).
