Precautions
On power
Operate the unit only on 2.4 V or 3.0 V DC.
Use two NH-AAA rechargeable batteries or two
LR03 (size AAA) alkaline batteries.
On safety
Do not operate the unit while driving, cycling or
operating any motorized vehicle.
On handling
• Do not leave the unit in a location near heat
sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust or mechanical shock.
• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the
unit, remove the batteries and have the unit
checked by qualified personnel before operating
it any further.
If you have any questions or problems concerning
your unit, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.
This Quick Start Guide describes only basic
operations, such as how to record, play back, or
erase files. The operating instructions
explaining all the features and functions of
the IC recorder are stored as PDF files in 7
languages in the built-in memory of the IC
recorder. To copy the operating instructions
from the IC recorder to your computer, see
“Step 6: Copying the Operating Instructions to
Your Computer” on page 6.

Moreover, to install the supplied application

Getting Started
Step 1: Checking the
Contents of the Package

Operating Instructions
The operating instructions are stored as PDF files in
the built-in memory of the IC recorder.
Step 2: Recharging the
Batteries
Recharging the batteries using
a computer
1Insert rechargeable batteries.
Slide and lift the battery compartment lid, insert
two NH-AAA rechargeable batteries with
correct polarity, and close the lid.
2Connect the IC recorder to your computer.
Use the USB connecting cable supplied with
the IC recorder to connect the (USB)
connector of the IC recorder and the USB port
of your computer.

3Disconnect the IC recorder from your
computer.
Follow the procedures below; otherwise, when
the IC recorder contains data files, the files may
be damaged or become unplayable.
1Make sure that the operation indicator of the
IC recorder does not light.
2Perform the following operation on your
computer.
On a Windows screen, left-click the icon at
the bottom of the desktop of the computer.
tLeft-click “Eject IC RECORDER.”
The icon and menu displayed can be different on
different operating systems.
On a Macintosh screen, drag “IC
RECORDER” on the desktop to “Trash” and
drop it there.
For details on disconnecting the IC recorder
from your computer, refer to the operating
instructions supplied with your computer.
3Disconnect the IC recorder from the USB
port of the computer.
Step 3: Turning the IC
Recorder On
Turning the power on
Slide the POWER/HOLD switch in the direction
of “POWER” for more than 1 second. The IC
recorder is turned on, and the “Accessing...”
animation is displayed.

Turning the power off
Slide the POWER/HOLD switch in the direction
of “POWER” for more than 2 seconds, and the
“Power Off” animation is displayed.
Step 4: Setting the Clock
You need to set the clock to use the alarm
function or record the date and time.
When you insert batteries for the first time, or
when you insert batteries after the IC recorder has
been without batteries for more than 1 day, the
“Set Date&Time” animation appears, and then the
year section begins to flash in the clock setting
display window.

1Press vor Von the control button to set the
year, month, day, hour, and minute in sequence,
and then press N/ENT.
Select the last two digits of the year when you
set the year.
2Press xSTOP to return to the stop mode
display.

Step 5: Setting the
Language to Be Used in
the Display Window
You can select the language to be used for
messages, menus, folder names, file names, etc.
from 11 languages.

1Select the (IC recorder setting) tab t
“Language” in the menu, and then press N/
ENT.
2Press vor Von the control button to select the
language that you want to use, and then press
N/ENT.
You can select the following languages.
Deutsch (German), English, Español (Spanish),
Français (French), Italiano (Italian), Русский
(Russian), (Japanese), (Korean),
(Chinese), (Chinese),
(Thai)
3Press xSTOP to exit the menu mode.
Step 6: Copying the
Operating Instructions
to Your Computer
1Connect the IC recorder to your computer
(page 3).
2Complete the following procedure on your
computer.
On a Windows screen; open “My Computer” or
“Computer,” - “IC RECORDER” -
“Instructions.”
On a Macintosh screen; open the “IC
RECORDER” drive on the desktop -
“Instructions.”
3Drag and drop the files of the operating
instructions from “Instructions” folder to the
local disk on your computer.
The file names of the operationg instructions
are as follows:
Product name_language name_version.pdf (e.g.
ICD-SX713_SX813_English_11.pdf)
4Disconnect the IC recorder from your computer
(page 4).

Before you start recording, we recommend you make a trial recording first, or monitor the recording.
Switching the directionality of the built-in microphones
Selecting a folder
1Change the angle of the built-in microphones manually
according to the direction you want to record.
1Slide the POWER/HOLD switch towards the center to release
the IC recorder from the HOLD status.
2Press to display the folder selection window.
3Press .on the control button, press vor Von the control
button to select the (Voice) tab, and then press >on the
control button.
4Press vor Von the control button to select the folder in which
you want to record files.
When you purchase the IC recorder, there are 5 folders already
available ( FOLDER01-05).

Starting to record (Auto (AGC) recording)
To stop recording
5Press N/ENT.
1Turn the built-in microphones in the direction of the source to be
recorded.
2Press zREC/PAUSE in the stop mode.
The operation indicator lights in red.
You do not need to press and hold zREC/PAUSE while
recording.
The new file will be automatically recorded after the last
recorded file.
1Press xSTOP.
The operation indicator flashes in orange and the IC recorder
stops at the beginning of the current recording file.

Listening
Starting playback
1Slide the POWER/HOLD switch towards the center to release
the IC recorder from the HOLD status.
2Press .
3Press .on the control button, press vor Von the control
button to select the (Voice) tab, the (Music) tab, or the
(Podcast) tab, and then press >on the control button.
4Press vor Von the control button to select the folder.
5Press >on the control button.
6Press vor Von the control button to select the file you want to
play.

Playback will start soon, and the operation indicator will light in
green. (When “LED” is set to “OFF” in the menu, the operation
indicator does not light.)
8Press VOLUME –/+ to adjust the volume.

Erasing
PNote
Once a recording has been erased, you cannot retrieve it.
Selecting a file and erasing it
To cancel erasing
1Slide the POWER/HOLD switch towards the center to release
the IC recorder from the HOLD status.
2Select the file you want to erase when the IC recorder is in the
stop or playback mode.
3Press ERASE.
“Erase?” is displayed and the specified file is played back for
confirmation.
4Press vor Von the control button to select “Execute.”
5Press N/ENT.
The “Erasing...” animation appears in the display window and
the selected file will be erased.
When a file is erased, the remaining files will advance so that
there will be no space between files.
1Select “Cancel” in step 4 of “Selecting a file and erasing it,” and
then press N/ENT.

Las instrucciones de funcionamiento están
almacenadas como archivos PDF en la memoria
interna de la grabadora IC.
Paso 2: Recarga de las
pilas
Recarga de las pilas mediante
un ordenador
1Inserte unas pilas recargables.
Deslice y levante la tapa del compartimiento de
la pila, inserte dos pilas recargables NH-AAA
con la polaridad correcta y cierre la tapa.
2Conecte la grabadora IC al ordenador.
Utilice el cable de conexión USB incluido con
la grabadora IC para conectar el conector
(USB) de la grabadora IC al puerto USB del
ordenador.

3Desconecte la grabadora IC del ordenador.
Siga este procedimiento para evitar que los
archivos se dañen o no puedan reproducirse
cuando la grabadora IC contenga archivos de
datos.
1Asegúrese de que el indicador de
funcionamiento de la grabadora IC no se
ilumina.
2Realice la siguiente operación en el ordenador.
En una pantalla de Windows, haga clic en el
icono situado en la parte inferior del
escritorio del ordenador.
tHaga clic en “Expulsar IC
RECORDER”.
El icono y el menú mostrado puede ser diferente
en los distintos sistemas operativos.
En una pantalla de Macintosh, arrastre “IC
RECORDER” desde el escritorio hasta
“Trash” y suéltela ahí.

3Desconecte la grabadora IC del puerto USB
del ordenador.
Paso 3: Cómo encender
la grabadora IC
Para encenderla
Deslice el interruptor POWER/HOLD en el
sentido de “POWER” durante más de 1 segundo.
La grabadora IC se enciende y se muestra
“Accessing...” en forma de animación.

Para apagarla
Deslice el interruptor POWER/HOLD en el
sentido de “POWER” durante más de 2 segundos
y se mostrará la animación “Power Off”.
Paso 4: Ajuste del reloj
Es necesario ajustar el reloj para utilizar la
función de alarma o para grabar la fecha y la hora.
Al insertar las pilas por primera vez, o bien al
insertar las pilas después de que la grabadora IC
haya permanecido sin pilas durante más de 1 día,
aparece la animación “Set Date&Time” y, a
continuación, comienza a parpadear la sección del
año en el visor de ajuste del reloj.

el año, el mes, el día, la hora y los minutos en
este orden y, a continuación, pulse N/ENT.
Seleccione los dos últimos dígitos del año
cuando ajuste el año.
2Pulse xSTOP para volver a la visualización
del modo de parada.

Paso 5: Ajuste del
idioma del visor
Permite seleccionar uno de los 11 idiomas para

1Conecte la grabadora IC al ordenador
(página 3).

En una pantalla de Windows; abra “My
Computer” o “Computer,” - “IC RECORDER”
- “Instructions”.
En una pantalla de Macintosh; abra la unidad
“IC RECORDER” en el escritorio -
“Instructions”.
3Arrastre y coloque los archivos del manual de
instrucciones desde la carpeta “Instructions” al
disco local del ordenador.
Los nombres de los archivos del manual de
funcionamiento son los siguientes:

Antes de iniciar la grabación, se recomienda hacer primero una grabación de prueba o controlar la grabación.
Cambio de la direccionalidad de los micrófonos incorporados
Selección de una carpeta
1Cambie el ángulo de los micrófonos incorporados de forma
manual en función a la dirección en la que desea realizar la
grabación.
1Deslice el interruptor POWER/HOLD hacia el centro para
desactivar el estado HOLD de la grabadora IC.
2Pulse para mostrar la ventana de selección de carpeta.
3Pulse .en el botón de control, pulse vo Ven el botón de
control para seleccionar la pestaña (voz) y, a continuación,
pulse >en el botón de control.
4Pulse vo Ven el botón de control para seleccionar la carpeta en
la que desea grabar los archivos.
En el momento de compra de la grabadora IC, se encuentran 5
carpetas ya disponibles ( FOLDER01-05).

1Dirija los micrófonos incorporados hacia la fuente que desea
grabar.
2Pulse zREC/PAUSE en el modo de parada.
El indicador de funcionamiento se ilumina en rojo.
No es necesario mantener pulsado zREC/PAUSE durante la
grabación.
El nuevo archivo se grabará automáticamente después del
último archivo grabado.

Para detener la reproducción

La reproducción se iniciará en breve y el indicador de
funcionamiento se iluminará en verde. (Cuando “LED” está
ajustado en “OFF” en el menú, el indicador de funcionamiento
no se ilumina.)
8Pulse VOLUME –/+ para ajustar el volumen.
