Description of Operation
The Maxis
®
XD1 Extreme Duty Circuit Puller is a high-speed cable
puller intended to pull branch and data circuits or small feeder wire
circuits through conduit. The Maxis
®
XD1 Extreme Duty Circuit
Puller was designed to fit on most manufacturer’s models of
18-volt cordless drills with ½” chuck adaptor. The Maxis
®
XD1
Extreme Duty Circuit Puller can be operated by one or two people.

1. When pulling with a polyline/mule tape or rope, two methods of
loading the Capstan (1) can be used.

MOUNTING DRILL TO PULLER
1. Loosen hand drill chuck to receive Input Shaft (3) of puller.
2. Align handle of hand drill with Adjustable Drill Cradle (2) and
install onto Input Shaft Chuck Adaptor (3) and tighten drill chuck (Fig
1 and 2).
CAUTION: Care should be taken when engaging the drill
motor to tighten onto the pullers Input Shaft Chuck Adapter
(3) as to not pinch fingers from torque of drill.
3. Tighten bolts on Adjustable Drill Slide (7) once it is in contact
with drill handle.
4. Secure drill handle to Adjustable Drill Cradle (2) with supplied
strap.
A. When pulling underground or from below, make a loop in the
end of the polyline/ mule tape and attach the eye around the
Polyline/Mule Tape Pin (10) on the Capstan (1) (Fig 3). This will
allow the polyline/mule tape to continuously accumulate onto
the Capstan (1) (Fig 4). Switch the 18-Volt drill into REVERSE
and payoff like most conventional wire pullers.

B. When pulling overhead or from above, pull forward pin on
Front Extension (6) and rotate 180 degrees and insert back into
Base Arm (5) and re-install pin (Fig 5 and 6). Make a loop in the
end of the polyline/mule tape and attach the eye around the
Polyline/Mule Tape Pin (10) from underside of the Capstan (1).
This will allow the polyline/mule tape to continuously accumu-
late onto the Capstan (1). Switch the 18-Volt drill into FOR-
WARD and payoff like most conventional wire pullers.

C. When pulling from the side, make a loop in the end of the
polyline/ mule tape and attach the eye around the Polyline/Mule
Tape Pin (10) on the Capstan (1) (Fig 7). This will allow the
polyline/mule tape to continuously accumulate onto the
Capstan (1) (Fig 8). Switch the 18-Volt drill into REVERSE
and engage drill motor.

ROPE PULL SETUP
A. When pulling underground or from below, wrap rope over
the top of Capstan (1) in a clockwise direction multiple times
(Fig 9) and switch the 18-Volt drill into REVERSE and payoff like
most conventional wire pullers.

B. When pulling overhead or from above, pull forward pin on
Front Extension (6) and rotate 180 degrees and insert back into
Base Arm (5) and reinstall pin (Fig 5 and 6). Wrap rope under
the bottom of the Capstan (1) and wrap rope counter-clock-
wise. Ensure 18-Volt drill is in FORWARD and payoff like most
conventional wire pullers.

C. When pulling from the side, wrap rope around Capstan (1)
across the top of the Capstan (1) wrap the rope in a clockwise
direction multiple times and switch the 18-Volt drill into
REVERSE and payoff like most conventional wire pullers.

PULLING INSTRUCTIONS (OPERATION)
1. Place Front Roller Payoff (7) against edge of conduit or pull box
(Fig 10), the use of the removable Conduit Adaptor (8) (Fig 11) can
be used to lock in the puller around small size conduits, use of the
notch cut out on the Front Roller Payoff (7) bracket that will allow
user to lock in the Front Extension (6) against the edge of most
conduit or panel boxes. Start puller by pressing trigger on 18-Volt
drill. Drill motor will work in forward or reverse dependent on direc-
tion of wrap of rope on the Capstan (1). Start hand drill motor slowly
to take up any slack before pulling in high speed.
2. The Front Extension (6) can be lengthened by removing the front
pin and sliding out the extension. Reinstall pin to secure Front
Extension (6). This will lengthen the puller an additional 6” (Fig 12
and 13).
3. Use of HIGH-SPEED setting on hand drills can be used on pulls
where lower-tensions are anticipated. Longer higher-tension pulls
should use LOW- SPEED setting on hand drill to prevent the unwar-
ranted wear and tear on drill motor.
4. If rope slippage occurs on the Capstan (1), stop puller and add
additional wraps to the Capstan (1) to increase friction and decrease
slippage.
5. For long underground pulls, the addition of a cut and threaded
piece of ¾” rigid conduit can be threaded into the bottom of the
Gear Box (4) for added support (Fig 14).
6. Capstan (1) can be removed to help facilitate removal of
polyline/mule tape. With a firm grip on Capstan (1), pull away from
Gear Box (4). This feature can be used when Capstan (1) is full and
the removal and replacement of a second Capstan (1) can be start-
ed. With new Capstan (1) in hand align the index pin on Gear Box
Output shaft with notches on underside of Capstan (1) and press
Capstan (1) firmly towards Gear Box (4) until seated. Refer to
POLYLINE/MULE TAPE SETUP Section A for setup instructions.

TROUBLESHOOTING SPECIFICATIONS
1. If Capstan (1) fails to turn, ensure ample battery supply to the
hand drill is available.
2. Check drill hand chuck for tightness before every use to ensure
there is no slippage on the Input Shaft Chuck Adaptor (3).
3. If drill is in motion and Capstan (1) does not pull rope, ensure
indexing pin on gear box output shaft is aligned with groove in
Capstan (1). Rotate and push Capstan (1) towards Gear Box (4) to
lock into place.
MAINTENANCE
1. Gear box (4) is filled with high temperature lubricating grease,
no maintenance of the gear box is required.
2. Input Shaft Chuck Adaptor (3) is equipped with a three sided
harden steel extension. If for any reason this shaft is worn down
or stripped, call your local distributer or Southwire Tools and
Equipment for a replacement.
3. Routinely inspect all aspects of XD1 puller to ensure puller is
in proper working order prior to usage. If parts are missing or
broken, Do Not Use, have puller serviced at an authorized
Southwire Repair Center.

What Does This Warranty Cover?
Five-Year Limited Warranty on Contractor Equipment
Under Southwire’s Contractor Equipment 5-Year Limited Warranty, Southwire Company, LLC
warrants that all Southwire Contractor Equipment will be free from manufacturer defects for a
period of five (5) years from the date of the original end user’s purchase. However, electrical
components and consumable parts such as ropes, blades, dies, draw studs, grips, are
excluded from this 5-Year Limited Warranty and are subject to the One -Year warranty terms.
Under this 5-Year Limited Warranty, the following are also excluded and Southwire Compa-
ny, LLC will have no liability for any of the following: normal wear and tear resulting from
product use and damage arising out of misuse, abuse, modification, and improper product
maintenance. This warranty also does not cover Southwire Contractor Equipment products
that have been modified by any party other than Southwire Company, LLC or its authorized
third party designee. This 5-Year Limited Warranty is not transferrable to or enforceable by
any person other than the product’s original end user.
One-Year Limited Warranty on Electrical Components and Consumable
Parts (with 5-Year warranty)
Under Southwire’s 1-Year Limited Warranty, Southwire Company, LLC warrants that all

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential
damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.
1. All warranty claims must be approved by Southwire’s Tools & Assembled Products
Warranty Department prior to return of product. If Southwire determines that a product is
defective, Southwire will, at its option, repair or replace defective products or defective
product components, free of charge.
2. Upon approval, Southwire will issue a Product Return Authorization Form which will include
instructions on how and where to return the product. The product serial number and the
original date of delivery must be set forth on the Product Return Authorization Form.
3. Southwire will cover standard freight charges (Ground Courier Rate) incurred in connection
with products that Southwire ultimately determines to be defective.
4. All defective components and defective products that Southwire replaces under these
Warranties will become Southwire’s property and will be retained by Southwire.

El extractor de circuito de trabajo extremo Maxis®XD1 es un
extractor de cable de alta velocidad destinado a tirar de los circuitos
de derivación y de datos o pequeños circuitos de cable de alimenta-
ción a través de un conducto. El extractor de circuitos de trabajo
extremo Maxis®XD1 fue diseñado para adaptarse a la mayoría de
los modelos de taladros inalámbricos de 18 voltios con adaptador
de mandril de ½”. El extractor de circuitos de trabajo extremo
Maxis®XD1 puede ser operado por una o dos personas.
Descripción de la operación
• Lea y comprenda todas las instrucciones y la información de

1. Al tirar con polilínea o mule tape, se pueden usar dos métodos
para cargar el cabrestante (1).
1. Afloje el mandril del taladro manual para recibir el eje de entrada
(3) del extractor.
2. Alinee el mango del taladro manual con el soporte de perforación
ajustable (2) e instálelo en el adaptador del mandril del eje de entra-
da (3) y apriete el mandril del taladro (Fig. 1 y 2).
PRECAUCIÓN: Tenga cuidado al acoplar el motor de la
broca para apretarlo en el adaptador del mandril del eje de
entrada (3) de los extractores para no pellizcar sus dedos por
el torque del taladro.
3. Apriete los pernos en la guía de perforación ajustable (7) una vez
que esté en contacto con la manija de perforación.
4. Fije la manija del taladro a la cuna de perforación ajustable (2) con
la correa suministrada.
A. Al tirar bajo tierra o desde abajo, haga un bucle en el extremo de la
polilínea / mule tape y coloque el ojo alrededor del pasador de la
polilínea / mule tape (10) en el cabrestante (1) (Fig. 3). Esto permitirá
que la polilínea / mule tape se acumule continuamente en el cabres-
tante (1) (Fig. 4). Cambie la broca de 18 voltios a REVERSA y aumen-
te como la mayoría de los extractores de alambre convencionales.
B. Cuando tire hacia arriba o desde arriba, tire del pasador delan-
tero de la extensión frontal (6), gírelo 180 grados e insértelo
nuevamente en el brazo base (5) y vuelva a instalar el pasador
(Fig. 5 y 6). Haga un bucle en el extremo de la polilínea / mule tape
y coloque el ojo alrededor del pasador de polilínea / mule tape (10)
desde la parte inferior del cabrestante (1). Esto permitirá que la
polilínea / mule tape se acumule continuamente en el cabrestante
(1). Cambie la broca de 18 voltios a ADELANTE y aumente como
la mayoría de los extractores de alambre convencionales.

A. Al tirar desde un lado, haga un bucle en el extremo de la
polilínea / mule tape y coloque el ojo alrededor del pasador de la
polilínea / mule tape (10) en el cabrestante (1) (Fig. 7). Esto
permitirá que la polilínea / mule tape se acumule continuamente
en el cabrestante (1) (Fig. 8). Cambie la broca de 18 voltios a
REVERSA y active el motor del taladro.
INSTALACIÓN DEL CABLE
A. Al tirar bajo tierra o desde abajo, enrolle la cuerda sobre la
parte superior del cabrestante (1) en el sentido de las agujas del
reloj varias veces (Fig. 9) y coloque la broca de 18 voltios en
REVERSA y utilice como la mayoría de los tiradores de alambre
convencionales.
B. Cuando tire hacia arriba o desde arriba, tire del pasador
delantero de la extensión frontal (6), gírelo 180 grados e insérte-
lo nuevamente en el brazo base (5) y vuelva a instalar el pasa-
dor (Fig. 5 y 6). Envuelva la cuerda debajo de la parte inferior
del cabrestante (1) y enrolle la cuerda en sentido contrario a las
agujas del reloj. Asegúrese de que la broca de 18 voltios esté
en posición ADELANTE y aumente como la mayoría de los
extractores de alambre convencionales.
C. Al tirar desde un lado, enrolle la cuerda alrededor del cabres-
tante (1) por la parte superior, enrolle en el sentido de las agujas
del reloj varias veces (Fig. 1) y coloque la broca de 18 voltios en
REVERSA y utilice como la mayoría de los tiradores de alambre
convencionales.

1. Coloque el rodillo delantero (7) contra el borde del conducto o la
caja de tracción (Fig. 10), el uso del adaptador de conducto extraíble
(8) (Fig. 11) se puede usar para bloquear el extractor alrededor de
conductos de tamaño pequeño, el uso de la muesca recorte en el
soporte el rodillo delantero (7) que permitirá al usuario bloquear la
extensión frontal (6) contra el borde de la mayoría de las cajas de
conductos o paneles. Arranque el extractor presionando el gatillo en
un taladro de 18 voltios. El motor de perforación trabajará hacia
adelante o hacia atrás dependiendo de la dirección de la envoltura de
la cuerda en el cabrestante (1). Arranque el motor del taladro manual
lentamente para eliminar cualquier holgura antes utilizar alta velocidad.
2. La extensión delantera (6) se puede alargar retirando el pasador
frontal y deslizando la extensión. Vuelva a instalar el pasador para
asegurar la extensión delantera (6). Esto alargará el extractor 6"
adicionales (Fig. 12 y 13).
3. El uso de la configuración de ALTA VELOCIDAD en los taladros
manuales se puede usar en tirones donde se anticipan tensiones más
bajas. Los tirones de mayor tensión más largos deben usar la configu-
ración de BAJA VELOCIDAD en el taladro de mano para evitar
desgaste no deseado del motor del taladro.
4. Si se produce deslizamiento de la cuerda en el cabrestante (1),
detenga el extractor y agregue vueltas adicionales al cabrestante (1)
para aumentar la fricción y disminuir el deslizamiento.
5. Para tirones subterráneos largos, la adición de un trozo cortado y
roscado de conducto rígido de ¾” se puede roscar en la parte inferior
de la caja de engranajes (4) para mayor soporte (Fig. 14).
6. El cabrestante (1) se puede quitar para facilitar la extracción de la
polilínea / mule tape. Con un agarre firme en el cabrestante (1), retírelo
de la caja de engranajes (4). Esta función se puede usar cuando el
cabrestante (1) está lleno y se puede iniciar la remoción y reemplazo
de un segundo cabrestante (1). Con el nuevo cabrestante (1) en la
mano, alinee el pasador de índice en el eje de salida de la caja de
engranajes con las muescas en la parte inferior del cabrestante (1) y
presione el cabrestante (1) firmemente hacia la caja de engranajes (4)
hasta que encaje. Consulte la Sección A de CONFIGURACIÓN DE
POLILÍNEA / MULE TAPE para obtener instrucciones de configuración.

1. Si el cabrestante (1) no gira, asegúrese de que haya suficiente
suministro de batería para el taladro de mano.
2. Verifique que el portabrocas manual del taladro esté bien apreta-
do antes de cada uso para asegurarse de que no haya deslizamien-
tos en el adaptador de mandril de eje de entrada (3).
3. Si el taladro está en movimiento y el cabrestante (1) no tira del
cable, asegúrese de que el pasador de indexación en el eje de
salida de la caja de engranajes esté alineado con la ranura del
cabrestante (1). Gire y empuje el cabrestante (1) hacia la caja de
engranajes (4) para fijarlo en su lugar.
1. La caja de engranajes (4) está llena de grasa lubricante de alta
temperatura, no se requiere mantenimiento de la caja de engranajes.
2. El adaptador de mandril del eje de entrada (3) está equipado con
una extensión de acero reforzado de tres lados. Si por alguna razón,
este eje está desgastado o roto, pida un repuesto con su distribuidor
local o al departamento de Herramientas y Equipo de Southwire.
3. Inspeccione rutinariamente todos los aspectos del extractor XD1
para asegurarse de que esté en buenas condiciones de funciona-
miento antes de usarlo. Si faltan piezas o están rotas, no lo utilice.
Lleve el extractor a un centro de reparación autorizado de Southwire

PERÍODO LIMITADO.
Algunos estados no permiten la exclusión o limitación de daños incidentales o

2. Luego de su aprobación, Southwire emitirá un Formulario de autorización de devolución del

serie del producto y la fecha original de entrega deben especificarse en el Formulario
de Autorización de Devolución del Producto.
3. Southwire pagará los gastos de flete estándar (Tarifa de paquetería por vía terrestre)
incurridos en relación con los productos que Southwire determine, en última instancia, que son
defectuosos.
4. Todos los componentes y productos defectuosos que Southwire reemplace conforme estas
Garantías se convertirán en propiedad de Southwire y serán retenidos por la empresa.
