4. Maintenance

Thisproductshouldnotbedismantledwithoutrstreleasingthecompressiononthecontrolspring.
4.1 General information
The valve is maintenance free, but it is recommended that the valve is dismantled every 12 to
18monthsforroutineinspectionofthecomponentparts.Itemsshowingsignsofwearshouldbe
replaced.DetailsofavailablesparesaregiveninSection5.Priortoroutineinspectionorttingspare
components,rstlyensurethereducingvalveisisolatedandthattheupstreamanddownstream
pressuresarereducedtozero,rotatingspringadjuster(9)toreducespring(s)compressiontozero.
Thedownstreampressuresignalpipeshouldbedisconnectedfromtheactuator.
Note: This product contains PTFE/steel composite brushes. The precautions laid down in
Section1.15shouldbetaken.
Numbers in brackets refer to the parts number as shown on the valve section drawings in the
terminal part.
4.2 Routine maintenance
After an initial period in operation it is recommended that the tightness of the nuts(29)whichx
thebonnet(32)andthebottomange(38)tothevalvebodyandwhichcouldhavelooseneddue
tothetemperaturevariations,mechanicalvibrationsorstress,bechecked.
Thisimportantoperationwillavoidleakageofuidthroughthebodygaskets,whichwouldbedicult
to eliminate later.
Questaoperazioneèmoltoimportanteondeevitareperditedelleguarnizionidelcorpo,perditeche,
accentuandosi,dicilmentepotrebberoessereeliminateconuntardivoserraggiodeidadi.
Thestung-boxmustbecheckedfrequently.Duringthersthoursofoperating,toeliminate
possible leakage, screw-in the stung box nut (23) slightly (¼ revolution only for teon/
graphiteorgraphitestungbox),uidpressureitselfwillassuretightnessofthepacking.
Donottightenthestungboxnutexcessivelyasthiscanthencausevalvelocking.Toreduce
stemfriction,itissuggestedthatthestem(22)belubricatedwithaspecialsiliconeoilatleast
oncepermonthorwhenitbecomesdry.
4.2.1 Trouble shooting (failures and possible causes)
Forsuccessfulperformanceofthevalve,thestem(22)ofthevalvemustmovefreelyaccordingtothe
airpressurechangesonthediaphragm.Ifthisactionisnotobtained,checkthefollowing:
Stungbox
Checkthatthestungboxpacking(27)isnotover-tightenedsoastopreventfreemovementof
thevalvestem(avoidhighfriction).
Diaphragm
Incaseofdiaphragmdamage,thevalvewillnolongerperformacompletestroke.Ifthediaphragm
isnolongerexibleorisdamaged,replaceitimmediately(seeparagraph4).
Plug guides
Checktheguidesoftheplug.Ifnecessary,cleanorgrindthem.
Leakageofuidthroughthevalveintheclosedposition.
Incaseofinsucienttightness:itwillbenecessarytobearinmindthelimitsofmaximumleakage
ofuidallowedwiththevalveintheclosedpositionforthedierenttypesofvalveconstructionwith
metaltometalseatingorwithgasketsoftseating.
Such limits are indicated in the valve technical specication of the dierent executions. Check
thatbetweenplugandseatnoforeignmaterialexistsandthatthecontactareaisnotexcessively
damaged,ifnecessarycarefullygrindthembyusingnegrindingcompoundmixedwithmachineoil.
Forextensivedamage,replacementofseatandplugbecomesnecessary(fordisassemblingthe
valve,seeparagraph5).
